A Survey Study Of Employer And Student Interest In A Possible General Marketing Program At Snow College, Ephraim, Utah, Rick L. Dove
A Survey Study Of Employer And Student Interest In A Possible General Marketing Program At Snow College, Ephraim, Utah, Rick L. Dove
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
There are many definitions of distributive education. Lucy Crawford defines distributive education as follows:
Distributive education is a vocational instructional program designed to meet the needs of persons who have entered or are preparing to enter a distributive occupation or an occupation requiring competency in one or more of the marketing functions. It offers instruction in marketing, merchandising, related management and personal development. (Crawford & Meyer, 1972, p. 2)
Crawford and Meyer call distributive education "the people-center member of the vocational education family" (1972, p. vii) . Distributive education is a program of instruction for those who are interested in …
Multicollinearity And The Estimation Of Regression Coefficients, John Charles Teed
Multicollinearity And The Estimation Of Regression Coefficients, John Charles Teed
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The precision of the estimates of the regression coefficients in a regression analysis is affected by multicollinearity. The effect of certain factors on multicollinearity and the estimates was studied. The response variables were the standard error of the regression coefficients and a standarized statistic that measures the deviation of the regression coefficient from the population parameter.
The estimates are not influenced by any one factor in particular, but rather some combination of factors. The larger the sample size, the better the precision of the estimates no matter how "bad" the other factors may be.
The standard error of the regression …
Interpretation Of Principal Components, Marwan A. Dabdoub
Interpretation Of Principal Components, Marwan A. Dabdoub
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The principal component analysis can be carried out two ways. First the R-mode:
R = K'K
and the second is the Q-mode:
Q = K K'
where K is a data matrix centered by column or by row. The most commonly used method is the R-mode.
It has been suggested that principal components computed from either the R-mode or the Q-mode may have the same interpretation. If this is true, then interpretation of the principal components could be put on a much more intuitive level in many applications. This will occur whenever one type of principal component …

Identity, Intimacy And Sex Differences, Mary Ann Kacerguis
Identity, Intimacy And Sex Differences, Mary Ann Kacerguis
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Ego identity and intimacy statuses were determined for 88 college students, 44 men, and 44 women, and related to each other and to measures of intimacy-isolation, loving and liking, Sex differences were also investigated. Identity achievement subjects were more likely to be engaged in intimate relationships. Students having foreclosure. moratorium. and diffusion identities were variable in their intimacy statuses. A stronger association exists between intimacy and loving than intimacy and liking. While no significant sex differences were found on the overall ego identity and intimacy comparisons, sub scale differences were noted. The evidence suggests identity achievement status is predictive of …
The Impact Of The Act Automated Admissions System As Perceived By The High School Counselors In Utah, James Rodney Clark
The Impact Of The Act Automated Admissions System As Perceived By The High School Counselors In Utah, James Rodney Clark
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The ACT automated admissions system was adopted by the Colleges and Universities in the Utah system of higher education in 1974. The automated admission system was conceived at a time when College enrollment all over the United States was decreasing, and thus was viewed by its proponents as a positive step in alleviating some of the articulation problems between post secondary institutions, high school counselors and prospective students.
Educators who developed the program felt that it would be an advantage to prospective students by providing an admissions decision shortly after the ACT was taken. Automated admissions appears to be an …

A Mathematical Model Of The Dispersion Of A Concentrated Substance For Use In The Great Salt Lake's South Arm, Anthony O. Rughellis
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The ability to predict the dispersion of substances in the Great Salt Lake is a requisite towards making responsible management decisions relating to uses of the lake. The lake is a complex terminal body of water and will require a fairly sophisticated mathematical model to properly simulate the dispersion process in the lake. This finite element convection-dispersion model is a first step towards developing a comprehensive model.
The model provides a finite element solution to the two-dimensional convection-dispersion equation and is capable of simulating steady or unsteady-state situations. It utilizes a known velocity field, dispersion coefficients, an introduced substance concentration, …

An Analysis Of The Effects Of The Impacts Of Oil Shale Development On The Economy Of The Uintah Basin, David Zachary Kaufman
An Analysis Of The Effects Of The Impacts Of Oil Shale Development On The Economy Of The Uintah Basin, David Zachary Kaufman
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The development of oil shale resources will have a significant impact on the Uintah Basin in Utah. To analyze this impact, this study used a regionalized imput-output model. The input-output table for the State of Utah was revised to fit the Uintah Basin, using the RAS technique.
The scarcity of water in the Basin may cause a shift of water use from irrigated agriculture to oil shale. This reduction in agricultural production was estimated, using demand curves for water in agriculture and an intergen programming model which generated minimum water requirements for shale developments from 25,000 barrels per day to …
Quantitation Of Formaldehyde Resulting From Oxidative Deterioration Of Unsaturated Fatty Acids, Stanley J. Andrews
Quantitation Of Formaldehyde Resulting From Oxidative Deterioration Of Unsaturated Fatty Acids, Stanley J. Andrews
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Derivatives of 3-methyl-1-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone were formed from the oxidation products of three oxidized unsaturated fatty acids. Aeration with oxygen and heat (65C) was used as a means of accelerating deterioration of lipid samples. Formaldehyde was recovered from oxidized pure standards of oleic, linoleic and linolenic acid methyl esters, and identified using gas chromatography. Formaldehyde was also recovered from oxidized lipid extracts of mechanic ally deboned turkey meat and turkey cluster fat. Gas chromatography was used to measure concentrations of unsaturated fatty acids during the oxidation of extracted lipids. Linoleic and linolenic fatty acids significantly decreased (p < .005) in oxidized lipid extracts from turkey cluster fat stored frozen for six months.
Measurement of the amounts …

Magnesium Deficiency And Excitability In The Rat: An Examination Of Selected Biochemical And Physiological Events Relating Magnesium Status To Behavior, Douglas Robinson Buck
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The effect of Mg status on the behavior of rats, as determined by nonspecific excitability level and audiogenic seizure susceptibility, was investigated. Also, selected biochemical and neurological mechanisms mediating the chain of events from dietary magnesium deficit to the hyperexcitability symptoms were examined. Weanling rats fed a low magnesium (10 ppm) diet for 14 days had reduced serum, cerebrospinal fluid and brain magnesium concentrations, and increased brain (Na+ K+) -ATPase activity. They exhibited increased NEL and became highly susceptible to audiogenic seizures. Through dietary manipulation and intraperitoneal and cerebral intraventricular injections, it was possible selectively to alter …

Two types of variables which might be differentially associated with the performances of prison inmates while on furloughs were studied. They were, 1) demographic data in the central files of inmates known to have been successful or unsuccessful on furlough, and 2) personality test data taken on groups of inmates who could be expected to be either successful or unsuccessful on furlough, given the demographic data in the central files which is found to discriminate between the two groups.
Demographic data was gathered from the files of adult male felons housed in correctional institutions in the following states: Virginia, Pennsylvania, …
Conflict In Outdoor Recreation, Gerald R. Jacob
Conflict In Outdoor Recreation, Gerald R. Jacob
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The causes of conflict among users of outdoor recreation resources have received little attention from recreation researchers. Knowledge of factors responsible for conflict might assist recreation planners' attempts to reduce future instances of conflict and help management focus its conflict resolution efforts. A theory of conflict is offered as the first step in systematically procuring such knowledge. A definition and characteristics of outdoor recreation conflicts are presented; four comprehensive causes of user conflicts are proposed. Ten propositions are used to link these factors to conflict and suggest future research hypotheses. The social psychological dynamics of conflict, as described here, have …
Issues In Water Planning For Utah, Jay C. Andersen
Issues In Water Planning For Utah, Jay C. Andersen
Economic Research Institute Study Papers
Utah is at the crossroads in water resources planning. Quality of water, transfers in uses interbasin transfers, and use of our entitlement in the Colorado River are among the important issues. Utah is in a position to exercise some control of water use policies and is doing so. In this short presentation, we can only call attention to some issues where things may not always seem clear at first glance . Hopefully some thoughts can be presented to stimulate appropriate courses of action.

The Role Of Systems Analysis In Water Supply Planning: Avoiding The Fallacy Of Composition, Jay C. Andersen
Economic Research Institute Study Papers
Things are not always as they seem. Presented here are a few examples of first impressions and possible errors in thought patterns. As an example, by some means the size of the earth is to be increased by one foot in diameter. Transcontinental Airlines and others are concerned with how much further it will be around the circumference of the earth. What is your answer? Quick! What's your answer?
Public Land Grazing: Going, Going, Gone?, E. Bruce Godfrey
Public Land Grazing: Going, Going, Gone?, E. Bruce Godfrey
Economic Research Institute Study Papers
America's publicly owned rangelands have been and will continue to be a major focal point of interest of members of the society. Recently, these lands have also become of interest to user groups which differ from the major traditional use of these lands--domestic livestock. The NRDC suit which spawned the environmental impact statements being written by BLM per- sonnel, the Resources Planning Act, and the Organic Act have focused attention on these lands to a greater degree that has not existed for some time. Much of the interest in these lands has questioned the role and impact of livestock grazing …

Plasma Lines In The Auroral E Layer, Vincent B. Wickwar
All Physics Faculty Publications
The first successful measurements of plasma lines in the auroral E layer were made in January 1976 using the Chatanika incoherent scatter radar. Although they are considerably weaker than the signal from the ion component, the plasma line signals are readily detectable. Typical signal-to-noise ratios were about 4%. In this series of experiments, plasma lines were observed in the interval between 3.8 and 6.0 MHz, which corresponds to phase energies between 0.55 and 1.4 eV. They were found between 98 and 134 km; the derived plasma wave intensities varied between 0.06 and 1.0 eV, and the enhancements between 4 and …

Time Lag In Diffusion-Controlled Nucleation, David Peak
Time Lag In Diffusion-Controlled Nucleation, David Peak
All Physics Faculty Publications
Nucleation occurring in the presence of a dense solvent is accompanied by spatial correlations among the reactant clusters and monomers which affect the aggregation rates. The classical theory of nucleation, which does not take such correlations into account, overestimates the observed nucleation rate and underestimates the time lag in condensed systems. An explicit expression for the time lag in diffusion‐controlled nucleation is derived. Values associated with miscibility gap experiments differ from the classical predictions by factors of 5 to 10.
Photoelectron Flux Build-Up In The Plasmasphere, G P. Mantas, Herbert C. Carlson, Vincent B. Wickwar
Photoelectron Flux Build-Up In The Plasmasphere, G P. Mantas, Herbert C. Carlson, Vincent B. Wickwar
All Physics Faculty Publications
Processes which confine photoelectrons to the plasmasphere (e.g., collisional backscattering from the thermosphere and magnetic trapping due to pitch angle redistribution through Coulomb collisions in the plasmasphere) tend to increase the steady state photoelectron flux in the plasmasphere above the amplitude level that would otherwise have been attained. Theoretical calculations are presented of steady state photoelectron fluxes in the plasmasphere, for specified atmospheric and ionospheric conditions. (Observational plasma line intensity data for these conditions exist and will be compared elsewhere.) General features of the angular distribution are presented and compared with observations. The transparency of the plasmasphere and the backscattering …
