Bulletin No. 93 - Agricultural Reconnaissance Of The Uinta Indian Reservation, W. W. Mclaughlin Mar 1905

Bulletin No. 93 - Agricultural Reconnaissance Of The Uinta Indian Reservation, W. W. Mclaughlin

UAES Bulletins

The agricultural area of the Uinta Indian Reservation is within the Uinta Basin. Its center is about 105 miles east of Heber and 90 miles northeast of Price; the two nearest railroad stations. The Reservation contains in all some 2,650,000 acres; but from this must be deducted, by allotments to the Indians and for mountainous land, about 2,000,000 acres, leaving approximately 650,000 acres for agriculture. The best and greatest amount of this is to be found in the area bounded on the south by the Duchesne River, on the west by the Duchesne River and Rock Creek, on the north …

Bulletin No. 91 - Arid Farming In Utah: First Report Of The State Experimental Arid Farms, John A. Widtsoe, Lewis A. Merrill Jan 1905

Bulletin No. 91 - Arid Farming In Utah: First Report Of The State Experimental Arid Farms, John A. Widtsoe, Lewis A. Merrill

UAES Bulletins

The present high position of Utah among the great commonwealths is due to the practice of irrigation. According to the last census, about 983 square miles are now being irrigated; and yet only a small fraction of Utah's water supply is used for purposes of irrigation. With the adoption of improved methods of using water, and the construction of mighty reservoirs to store the floods of spring, the irrigated area in this State will be largely increased. It is not at all improbable that in time the water supply may be made to irrigate ten times the area now under …

Bulletin No. 90 - Feeding Beet Molasses And Pulp To Sheep And Steers, Lewis A. Merrill, R. W. Clark Jul 1904

Bulletin No. 90 - Feeding Beet Molasses And Pulp To Sheep And Steers, Lewis A. Merrill, R. W. Clark

UAES Bulletins

Very few stockmen possess a knowledge of the value of beet pulp and beet molasses as animal food. Very little is known of the food value of molasses, but much information has accumulated, from time to time, concerning the value of pulp as stock food. The most authentic data at hand concerning the food value of pulp come from our experiment stations. To emphasize the value of pulp with the view to encourage small farmers to use it and thereby strengthen the live stock industry of the State, the results obtained by some of our experiment stations are given in …

Bulletin No. 89 - A New Centrifugal Soil Elutriator, P. A. Yoder Jul 1904

Bulletin No. 89 - A New Centrifugal Soil Elutriator, P. A. Yoder

UAES Bulletins

Within recent years much has been done toward determining the agricultural significance of certain physical properties of the soil. The grade of fineness is the most important of these physical properties, in that it determines, to a large extent, other properties. The· mechanical analysis of soils has thus come to be considered of primary importance in soil investigations. Any improvements in the methods or apparatus for mechanical analysis will, therefore, doubtless be welcomed by agricultural investigators. Though this is a very recent line of work, still many devices have been introduced for the separation of soil on the basis of …
