Trichinella spiralis, the causative organism in trichinosis, and commonly termed the "trichina worm," was first known by its encysted larval stage in the muscles of man as early as 1821, when it was noted by Tiedemann in Germany, and again in 1828, when it was seen by Peacock of London. Mr. Paget, who was a student at the Saint Bartholomew Hospital in London, noted whitish specks in the muscles of an Italian, aged 45, who had died at the hospital. Suspecting these specks to be produced by a minute internal parasite, Mr. Paget gave portions of …

Checking stations operated during the deer hunting season serve a two-fold purpose. It has long been recognized that such inspection stations aid greatly in the enforcement of hunting laws through the detection of illegal practices, and in many cases have been set up with this as a primary purpose. A more far reaching objective, however, is the collection of information to aid in the solution of the problems of maintenance of the range and the deer herd, and determination of the quality and quantity of the deer removal.

Richmond lies on a rise of ground near the Wasatch range in the east central part of Cache Valley. In 1855 John Bair led a small party to the vicinity of Richmond to explore it. Four years later (1859) they returned and established homes. The community grew quite rapidly. In 1860 when Jesse V. Fox, territorial surveyor, made the first survey, 104 people claimed land. The first public building was a combination church and school house. A ditch connected with High Creek was built in 1860. In 1868 the village was incorporated with W. D. Hendricks as the first mayor. …

Leaders in this field are attempting to establish physical education in its rightful place in the school curriculum. The Research Quarterly for October, 1936 says:

The Ustilaginales represent a group of fungi which are all parasitic upon the higher flowering plants. The mycelium is hyaline, somewhate septate, mostly intercellular, branched, and practically restricted to the interior of the host. At maturity the mycelium often disappears, partially, at least, through gelatinization. The fertile mycelia becomes compacted into the masses which give rise to numerous chlamydospores. That is, the chamydospores develop directly from the mycelia. Upon germination, each chlamydospore sends out a short tube called a promycelium. It is of prime importance to be able to establish a date in the spring when the range has produced sufficient feed to keep livestock in thrifty condition, when it is reasonably safe from excessive trampling and packing of the soil, and when the more important key forage plants have attained sufficient development to withstand grazing use. King, Hague, and Emmons, geologists of the Fortieth Parallel Survey, the first to undertake a systematic study of any part of the Wasatch Mountains, recognized this fact and their report includes a map which shows in a rough way the extent of the glaciated areas in the Central Wasatch (11 ).
