The first account of radiation damage to male germinal tissue was published in 1903 by Albers-Schoenberg, and stated only that rabbits were made sterile by repeated exposure to X-ray irradiation. By 1925 numerous papers (Blanc, 1906; Barratt and Arnold, 1912; and Schinz and Slotopolsky, 1925) discussing the histological and cytological effects of irradiation on the testis had appeared. In 1928 Lacassagne, Lattes, and Fournier, using uranium x as an external source of beta radiation, reported damage to the testis of the same nature as that caused by X-ray irradiation (2). Mass rearing experiments with Colladonus geminatus ( Van D.) conducted in an experimental greenhouse laboratory from January 30, 1952, to April 18, 1952, indicated light had important breeding effects on C. geminatus, the geminate leafhopper. A light intensity of forty foot-candles provided by a 100 watt incandescent bulb for a period of 16 hours daily was the most effective of the three light intensities and the three heat ranges tried. It was found in the expirimental cages that light had the effect of speeding up the development of the new leaf hopper generation, progeny of the overwintering adults from …

An economic loss of an estimated 10 million dollars occurs annually in the United States as a result of bovine coccidiosis.(2) It is known that Eimeria zurnii Rivolta, 1878, is one of the 2 most pathogenic species of coccidia in cattle. This thesis is a report of an attempt to protect turkeys against staphylococcal synovitis by means of a vaccine consisting of a twenty-four hour, untreated broth culture of Staphylococcus aureus. The efficacy of the vaccine was challenged by an intravenous injection of the homologous organism and also by exposure to birds infected with the homologous organism.

The California Quail is native to the coastal and semi-arid regions of California extending north into Oregon. Two subspecies are commonly recognized. the California Quail (Lophortyx californica brunnescens Ridgway), and the Valley Quail (Lophortyx californica californica Shaw). The two forms are very similar in coloration and habits and, for the purpose of this study, no effort is made to distinguish the two.

In 1948 a comprehensive fishery investigation on Logan River was initiated by the Department of Wildlife Management, Utah State Agricultural College, and the Utah Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit. Three masters' theses have been completed on life histories and populations to date (Thoreson, 1949; Fleener, 1950; Pechacek, 1950). Atherix variegata Walker is a snipe fly (family Rhagionidae) of the Nearctic region associated with rapid streams in mountainous or semi-mountainous areas. Naturalists and sportsmen have frequently expressed interest in the large masses of eggs and females which can be readily observed in early summer on the undersides of bridges and on rocks and branches overhanging water. Synovitis is one of the most costly diseases in the turkey industry and causes considerable economic loss to the growers. Although much research has been done on synovitis, little is known of the serology of the disease.
