Emerging With Ebooks: College Students Create Digital Publications, Kate Lucey

Library Instruction West 2016

The librarian designed and taught a course where college students created ebooks. The timely project incorporated both information and digital literacy skills by following the lifecycle of an ebook from conception to publication. Students researched technology-related topics, wrote and compiled their book chapters, and converted those chapters into ebooks using web design software and an open-source ebook creation tool called Calibre.

Feeding Two Birds With One Scone? The Relationship Between Teaching And Research For Graduate Students Across The Disciplines, Joanna Gilmore, David M.G. Lewis, Michelle Maher, David F. Feldon, Briana E. Timmerman Jan 2015

Feeding Two Birds With One Scone? The Relationship Between Teaching And Research For Graduate Students Across The Disciplines, Joanna Gilmore, David M.G. Lewis, Michelle Maher, David F. Feldon, Briana E. Timmerman

Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences Faculty Publications

We surveyed over 300 graduate students at a Southeastern research university to increase our understanding of their perceptions of (a) the connection between teaching and research, (b) the means by which integration occurs, and (c) the extent to which teaching and research contribute to a shared skill set that is of value in both contexts. We also examined differences across disciplines in the perception of this teaching-research nexus. Overall, findings indicate that graduate students perceive important relationships between teaching and research, and they point toward opportunities for administrators to promote teaching and research integration.

Meeting Students Where They Are: Adapting Natural Resource Education To Emerging Digital Landscapes, Zachary D. Cole Mar 2012

Meeting Students Where They Are: Adapting Natural Resource Education To Emerging Digital Landscapes, Zachary D. Cole

Conference on University Education in Natural Resources

For students, connecting through text, email, chat, and social media has become an integral part of their daily lives. The near endless supply of digital media outlets and information sources has created a new landscape at the interface of the student-professor relationship; incorporating these emergent platforms into hybrid educational environments can enhance student engagement with course material while improving communication between and amongst classmates, including the instructor. This new hyper-connected reality, however, presents both challenges and opportunities in educating tomorrow’s natural resource leaders and professors must “meet students where they are” by communicating and teaching in relatable ways (i.e. through …

Ncaa Division I Football Bowl Subdivision: The Importance Of Recruiting And Its Relationship With Team Performance, Nathan S. Lloyd

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Talent wins college football games. Wins bring in money. Colleges, fans and media hype up the recruiting season as the key to success in the college football season. Is it though? Athletic programs spend large sums of capital and resources to recruit the most talented players possible. This paper explores the relationship between recruited talent and team performance using a simultaneous equations model. Higher players’ talent leads to better team performance and a recruiting class has its biggest impact immediately following signing. A team’s performance, especially of the most recent season, impacts its ability to recruit. Talent and success experience …

Women: Support Factors And Persistence In Engineering, John R. Duncan, Yong Zeng Jan 2005

Women: Support Factors And Persistence In Engineering, John R. Duncan, Yong Zeng

Reports of Center Studies

Limited information is available regarding the factors that promote persistence by women in engineering programs. Stated simply, the problem is that the number of women engineers continues to fall short in comparison to the gender ratio of women to men in the population in the U.S. (BEST, 2002) and worldwide (Hersh, 2000). More women engineers are needed in general and in proportion to male engineers. This study addressed two questions. (1) What are the factors that support women in engineering? and (2) What are the factors that attract women to and help them to persist in a career in engineering? …
