Effects Of Perceived Child Rearing Practices On Moral Character, Melody T. Beutler
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between perceived child rearing practices and the moral character or pro-social behavior of students in their late teens and early twenties.
A questionnaire was administered to forty-eight students to test their moral character which was the dependent variable on the following traits: ambitious, broadminded, capable, cheerful, clean, courageous, forgiving, helpful, honest, imaginative, independent, intellectual, logical, loving, obedient, polite, responsible and self-controlled. The child rearing practices used by the mothers and fathers were also tested as the independent predictor variables according to the following terms: autonomy, coercion, companionship, guilt, inconsistency, love …
The Salience Of Parent Education For Adolescents: Gender And Gratification Orientations, Katrina H. Miller
The Salience Of Parent Education For Adolescents: Gender And Gratification Orientations, Katrina H. Miller
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this study was to test the relevance of parent education for high school students in terms of interest, concerns, expectations and experiences of the adolescents regarding children. The ability to delay gratification and gender served as independent variables. Weaver's (1977) "Adolescent Interest Survey" was administered to 179 high school students enrolled in three different programs in semi-rural northern Utah. These programs were objectively classified to represent two levels of ability to defer gratification. Regular high school stud ents, male (N=51) and female (N=52) were treated as "deferrers of gratification". Potential dropout students, Males (N=26) and females (N=23) …
Tradition And Household Tasks, Jennifer Hogge Miller
Tradition And Household Tasks, Jennifer Hogge Miller
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this study was to investigate how Utah husbands and wives thought household tasks should be allocated and how they actually were allocated in their own homes. The sample was 191 two-parent, two-child families residing in Iron, Washington, and Salt Lake Counties. Urban/rural residence, wife's employment status, educational level of both the husband and wife, family income, religious activity, and the husband's occupation were studied in relation to household task allocation.
Eight hypotheses were tested. Husband's religious activity and wife's employment status were found to be related to a traditional pattern of household task allocation. There was a …
The Development Of Empathy, Role-Taking And Listening As A Function Of Preschool Experience, Joseph P. Demarsh
The Development Of Empathy, Role-Taking And Listening As A Function Of Preschool Experience, Joseph P. Demarsh
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The major purpose of this investigation was to assess the potential effects of preschool education on indices of social competency. In specific, it was proposed that preschool education effects would be observed on measures of empathy, role-taking and listening.
A Solomon Four Group Design was employed to accomplish this task, using exposure of preschoolers to the Utah State University Child Development Laboratories for one quarter as the experimental treatment condition. While the typical Solomon design uses only one pretest-posttest experimental group, two groups were identified in this investigation since children were drawn from two preschool labs taught by different head …
The Effects Of The Physical Attractiveness Stereotype On Therapists' Perceptions Of Clients, Todd S. Larsen
The Effects Of The Physical Attractiveness Stereotype On Therapists' Perceptions Of Clients, Todd S. Larsen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of the present study was two-fold: (1) to determine whether the ratings a client receives on measures of likeableness, psychological effectiveness, and prognostic outcome differ as a result of the client's perceived level of physical attractiveness (high or low) and, (2) to determine whether the level of professional training in clinical/counseling psychology possessed by the raters mediates these effects.
To achieve these purposes, four groups of subjects (varying in level of training in clinical/counseling psychology) listened to the same 12-minute audio-tape excerpt of an actual initial interview with a client. Half the subjects in each group viewed a …
An Investigation Of The Influence Of Cooperating Teachers On The Educational Goal Ranking Behavior Of Student Teachers, Susan Myrna Jones
An Investigation Of The Influence Of Cooperating Teachers On The Educational Goal Ranking Behavior Of Student Teachers, Susan Myrna Jones
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of the study was to identify the effects of the influence of cooperating teachers on how student teachers prioritize particular goals of education. This was accomplished by administering a predetermined list of eighteen educational goals to a group of student teachers prior and subsequent to their quarter-long student teaching experience, and to their respective cooperating teachers during their student teaching quarter. The list enabled the teacher groups to rank the goals in order of priority. In this way the cooperating teachers' goal rankings were compared to both the student teachers' pre and post student teaching goal rankings.

Selected Projects In Costume Design, Michael Eagan
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
In his play Picnic, William Inge has created a study in male and female roles--or rather, the roles and types which society forces on them, and which they more frequently force on themselves. The people in this play are not conscious of their roles as roles. There is no free spirit portrayed in the attempt to throw off his or her classification. Even Madge, with her dreams of escape from the confines of small-town life, is acting in accordance with the behavior patterns of her particular genus. This play does not attack the male and female character typing which …
Environmental And Recreational Considerations, Jay C. Andersen
Environmental And Recreational Considerations, Jay C. Andersen
Economic Research Institute Study Papers
I begin with a strong assertion. There is no unused water! Whatever water is used for, for merely looking at it, to using it for a duck marshland, to drinking, there is a value placed on it by someone. This leads to the corollary that for each change in a particular projected or present use there is something that must be given up.
Interacting Prey Characteristic Effects On Kestrel Predatory Behavior, Frederick F. Knowlton, Leonard F. Ruggiero, Carl D. Cheney
Interacting Prey Characteristic Effects On Kestrel Predatory Behavior, Frederick F. Knowlton, Leonard F. Ruggiero, Carl D. Cheney

Prey selection was assessed based on 116 experimental trials in which six kestrels were presented pairs of mice. Independent variables included pelage color (black and white), morphology (familiar and unfamiliar), and movement (aberrant, normal, and none). Each prey item represented a combination of three treatments, i.e., one per variable. In general, black pelage was preferred to white and familiar morphology was preferred to unfamiliar. An important interaction occurred between movement and morphology. Kestrel selection was low for moving unfamiliar prey but high for nonmoving unfamiliar prey. The highest rates of attack were elicited by moving familiar prey. It was concluded …
