Comparative Analysis Of An Aquatic And Dry-Land Catching And Throwing Exercise On Reaction Time And Inhibitory Executive Function, Haein Choi
Student Research Symposium
Fast and accurate reactions are crucial for fall prevention. The ReacStick measures reaction accuracy by requiring immediate motor responses without delay. This study compared the effects of aquatic and land-based catching and throwing exercise on reaction accuracy to explore effective fall prevention training methods.

Qualitative Findings From A Pilot Study Of A Single Session Digital Mental Health Intervention For Adults With A Recent Dementia Diagnosis, Sharon Benson, Shanna Peterson, Lindy Strand
Student Research Symposium
Dementia and Mental Health
• A dementia diagnosis significantly impacts life, leading to higher rates of mental health issues like depression and anxiety (Leung, 2021), and reducing well-being and quality of life (Martyr , 2018).
• Most Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions for individuals with dementia (IwD) are designed for in-person completion and typically range from 6 to 50 sessions. The length and extensive resource requirements can pose barriers for IwD.
• Digital, online interventions can address these barriers.
Anthropological Perspectives Of The Relationship Between Landscape And Human Health In The Neo-Assyrian Empire, Sydnee Jensen
Anthropological Perspectives Of The Relationship Between Landscape And Human Health In The Neo-Assyrian Empire, Sydnee Jensen
Student Research Symposium
Drought can directly impact human health through agriculture. In the distant past, human health data is limited, however we can use studying agricultural data to gain insight into the impacts of drought on human health. This study focuses on phytoliths from animal diets in to shed light on human health during the Assyrian Empire (911 – 609 BCE), an agrarian empire that declined during an arid period.

Terra Sol Retreat: Combining Ancient Building Principles And Modern Technology To Design A Sustainable Desert Resort, Christian Graham
Terra Sol Retreat: Combining Ancient Building Principles And Modern Technology To Design A Sustainable Desert Resort, Christian Graham
Student Research Symposium
Ancient desert civilizations developed ingenious building techniques to adapt to extreme heat, scarce water, and harsh winds. One of the most effective strategies was the use of thermally massive materials such as adobe, rammed earth, and stone, which absorbed heat during the day and released it at night, creating natural temperature regulation. The Navajo (Diné) hogan, a traditional dwelling of the American Southwest, exemplifies this principle. Hogan walls were often built with packed earth and timber, providing insulation against both the searing daytime heat and the frigid desert nights. Their circular shape also helped distribute heat evenly, while the entrance …

How Has Lgbtq+ Representation In Media Influenced The Perceptions And Identities Among Both Lgbtq+ And Non-Lgbtq+ Individuals Ages 18-24?, Miki Beckstrom
Student Research Symposium
The modern era has allowed for a new age of storytelling. As our society continues to diversify, the question we must ask ourselves, how is the media we consume reflective of our society? Internet discourse surrounding representation of race, sexuality, and gender have continued to infiltrate our community and be a topic of contention. This study hopes to explore both the positive and adverse effects that LGBTQ+ representation in media can have.

Bacterial Treatment Enhanced Root Growth In Acidic And Neutral Conditions, But Limited Arabidopsis Thaliana Leaf Development, Taylor Brenchley, Ryan Colqui, Alexis Tueller
Student Research Symposium
- Soil bacteria help plants tolerate pH stress, extreme pH (too acidic or basic) limits plant growth, including Arabidopsis thaliana.
- Some bacteria improve plant resilience, but their role in pH tolerance is unclear, we aim to bridge this knowledge gap further.
- Soil acidification from pollution threatens global food security.
- This study tests whether a bacterial isolate from acidic soil helps A. thaliana grow in different pH conditions, which can be used in agriculture.
Empowering Girls In Sports: Combatting The Female Athlete Triad, Mia Dustin, Emma George, Whitney Stevenson
Empowering Girls In Sports: Combatting The Female Athlete Triad, Mia Dustin, Emma George, Whitney Stevenson
Student Research Symposium
The purpose of this project is to address the prevalence of the Female Athlete Triad among female high school athletes. Studies indicate that while the risk factors for the Female Athlete Triad are widespread, awareness of the condition among athletes and coaches remains low.¹ Female athletes also experience higher levels of body dissatisfaction, disordered eating patterns, and associated mental health concerns compared to their male counterparts.² ³ The prevalence of the Female Athlete Triad is particularly concerning due to its long-term implications, including low bone density, amenorrhea, muscular injuries, stress fractures, abnormal lipid profiles, irreversible bone loss, depression, low self-esteem, …
Using Biophilic Design To Improve Behavioral Healthcare Environments, Rachel Tuft
Using Biophilic Design To Improve Behavioral Healthcare Environments, Rachel Tuft
Student Research Symposium
One in five U.S. adults – more than 50 million people – experience a mental health episode every year and more than 11% of children are considered severely depressed (Mental Health America). These alarming statistics are rapidly increasing the demand for behavioral healthcare environments. Yet many of these spaces remain sterile, institutional, and lack the warmth and comfort patients need for effective healing. Research shows that as people spend more and more time indoors the lack of connection to nature in contemporary-built environments is negatively impacting human well-being, leading to increased stress, reduced focus, and slower healing. Studies suggest that …

The Impact Of Light And Color On Child-Friendly Spaces, Moriah Martin
The Impact Of Light And Color On Child-Friendly Spaces, Moriah Martin
Student Research Symposium
Light and color significantly affect children's sleep, cognition, mood, and overall health. Proper design can enhance emotional stability, learning outcomes, and physical well-being. This research explores how light quality—brightness, saturation, and hue—along with color psychology, influence behavior, cognitive function, and circadian rhythms. Natural light improves focus, sleep, and mood, while artificial lighting must be carefully balanced to prevent disruptions. Warm colors foster energy and engagement, while cool tones promote relaxation and concentration. Findings highlight the importance of evidence-based lighting and color strategies in educational and childcare settings, ensuring environments that support children's holistic development.
