A Study Of Spelling Programs In The Intermediate Classes For The Educable Mentally Retarded In The Granite And Salt Lake City School Districts, Ladawn L. Keith
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
The curriculum for the educable mentally retarded is based on persisting life problems and one of these, as identified by the Cincinnati Public Schools (1964), is learning to communicate ideas. To be able to communicate effectively your ideas in written form, it is necessary to know how to spell.
In order to operate effectively within a school and community, the slow learner will need to complete his development of communicative skills by l earning to write and spell. While it is true that his needs for written expression are considerably less than they are for oral communication, he will, nevertheless, …

Computer Simulation Of The Hydrologic-Salinity Flow System Within The Upper Colorado River Basin, M. Leon Hyatt, J. Paul Riley, M. Lynn Mckee, Eugene K. Israelsen
Computer Simulation Of The Hydrologic-Salinity Flow System Within The Upper Colorado River Basin, M. Leon Hyatt, J. Paul Riley, M. Lynn Mckee, Eugene K. Israelsen
Reports
Changes in the hydrologic equilibrium of a river basin resulting from resource development also produce changes in the quality pattern. Since the burden of quality maintenance must be shared by users (just as are quantities) predictions are needed for quality changes which might result from contemplated development at any specified location within the river system. This study reports the development of a computer simulation model of the water and salt flow systems within the Upper Colorado River basin. Because of the close relationship between the hydrologic and salinity flow systems, an understanding of the hydrologic system is essential to successful …
A Hydrologic Model Of The Bear River Basin, Robert W. Hill, Eugene K. Israelsen, A. Leon Huber, J. Paul Riley
A Hydrologic Model Of The Bear River Basin, Robert W. Hill, Eugene K. Israelsen, A. Leon Huber, J. Paul Riley
Reports
As demands upon available water supplies increase, there is an accompanying increase in the need to assess downstream consequences resulting from changes at specific locations within a hydrologic system. The problem is approached in this study by hybrid computer simulation of the hydrologic system. Modeling concepts are based upon the development of basic relationships which describe the various hydrologic processes. Within a system these relationships are linked by the continuity-of-mass priciple which requires a hydrologic balance at all points. Spatial resolution is achieved by considering the modeled areas as a series of subbasins. The time increment adopted for the model …
Systems Analysis Of Hydrologic Problems, J. Paul Riley, Diana Averett
Systems Analysis Of Hydrologic Problems, J. Paul Riley, Diana Averett
Reports
Introduction: Increasing national and international interest in water resources in recent years has stimulated much new activity and progress in hydrology. It is now generally recognized that the science of hydrology is basic to an understanding of water resources problems and to planning for water resources development. Accompanying this demand upon the science of hydrology is an urgent need for improved education at the university level. In resopnse to this need for improved education, the First International Seminar for Hydrology Professors was held at Urbana, Illinois, in July 1969. The Second International Seminar was held at Logan, Utah, during August …

An Examination Of Approximately Simultaneous Salt Lake Valley And Cache Valley Clearing (Ventilation) Indexes, George W. Reynolds, William Mcneill, Floyd Johnson, Janet Cleary
Reports
The Clearing Index is a numerical estimate of the contamination dispersal capability of the atmosphere. Between July, 1969, and June, 1970, 192 rawinsonde flights were made in the Cache Valley at approximately the same time as officially scheduled flights at the Salt Lake City Weather Bureau Airport Station. Clearing Indexes were computed from various combinations of Salt Lake Valley and Cache Valley rawinsonde and maximum surface temperature data. These were examined from the viewpoint of recommending a standard procedure for providing Clearing Indexes on a daily basis for Intermountain valleys. The primary conclusions were that: 1. Actual Salt Lake Valley …

Ideal Family Size And Acceptable Contraceptive Devices: A Study Of L.D.S. Student Attitudes At Utah State University, Robert Ray Weber
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
This study was undertaken because of the seemingly large families of the Mormons in Logan, Utah. Until this year I had never been in an area where Mormons made up a significant proportion of the population and had not realized the apparent difference in family size when compared to non-Mormons.
As a member of the Experienced Teacher Fellowship Program, I also had occasion to take two classes in Marriage and Family in the Family Life College at the University, and this also stirred my interest in the subject.
In the process of reviewing the literature on family size (fertility) and …
Some Aspects Of Geochemistry And Mineralogy Of Bear Lake Sediments, Utah-Idaho, Dean F. Davidson
Some Aspects Of Geochemistry And Mineralogy Of Bear Lake Sediments, Utah-Idaho, Dean F. Davidson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Bear Lake is located in southeastern Idaho and north-central Utah. The lake has a maximum altitude of 5923 feet and an area of approximately 110 square miles. Surrounding the lake are carbonates, shales, and sandstones of lower Paleozoic through middle Mesozoic ages. The many streams and springs that originate in these rocks are probably the main contributors to the chemistry of the lake. Water from Bear River, which flows into the north end of the lake, also contributes to its chemistry.
Quartz, aragonite, dolomite, calcite and clay minerals are the main minerals in the lake-bottom sediments. Quartz is generally the …

A Study In Propaganda And The Eccles Case, Cleo G. Geddes
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Adolf Hitler's rise to power had its beginnings in the distressed years following the First World War. The defeat of Germany was a shattering experience for Adolf. In Mein Kampf, he revealed his agony. “I could stand it no longer . . . . Everything went black again before my eyes; I tottered and groped my way back to the ward, threw myself on my bunk, and dug my burning head into my blanket and pillow . . . . So it had all been in vain. In vain all the sacrifices and privations; ... in vain the hours in …

Teaching Experience: A Prerequisite For Effective Counselor Performance?, Carole G. Sorensen
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Purpose of the study
Previous teaching experience is one of the most discussed issues in today's pupil personnel services. We find ourselves in the milieu of a controversy in which we have advocates of one camp who propose that teaching experience can be a handicap in the effectiveness of a counselor; and in the other camp, that teaching experience is a vital prerequisite for counselor effectiveness.
The controversy has reached such proportions that some states, which previously held teaching experience as a necessary requirement for counselor certification, have either changed certification requirements or have worked around the issue by accepting …
Spatial Reasoning As Related To Solving "Story Type" Problems, James R. Holder
Spatial Reasoning As Related To Solving "Story Type" Problems, James R. Holder
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
In this study it was hypothesized that the ability to mentally solve II story type" problems, those presented in the form of sentences, is significantly related to one's spatial reasoning ability and that a weakness in this ability, when tested by the "story type" problems, could be compensated for by training in and utilization of overt "paper and pencil" manipulations.
To test the hypothesis, three measures were used. These were the DAT Verbal Reasoning test--used to control the factor of verbal reasoning, the DAT Space Relations test--used to measure spatial reasoning ability, and two forms of a test composed of …
