The Politics Of John Muir, Dorothy M. Freeman
The Politics Of John Muir, Dorothy M. Freeman
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
A man does not always see himself as others see him. John Muir is venerated by several generations of Americans as a man who left a legacy of State and National Parks, State and National Forests, outdoor beauty and untouched wilderness areas which would never have survived has it not been for this dedicated man.
He did not plan such a course. He did what he found necessary to be done, without thought of personal gain or public honor.
However, during his lifetime there were those who did not view him with such veneration. Countless ranchers, lumberman and politicians must …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Contemporary conventional wisdom suggests that a radical change in environment produces a variety of conflicts for an individual’s perception of the world. Certain geographical, social or cultural environments are seen as either supporting or threatening corresponding value systems and life-styles, and alteration of one’s environment, such as moving to the suburbs, integrating schools, etc., is often sought as a reinforcement for a particular way of life. Correspondingly, value changes seen as undesirable are frequently attributed to environmental change, such as moving to the big city, ghettoization, etc. Indeed, environmental change itself, whatever its substance or direction, is usually assumed to …
Milton And The Classical Tradition : An Annotated Bibliography, Mary Lou Myrick
Milton And The Classical Tradition : An Annotated Bibliography, Mary Lou Myrick
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Because of the mainly scholarly studies of Milton’s works, and the many questions that have yet to be resolved, an annotated bibliography of Milton’s classicism is indispensable in enabling one to survey the ground that has been covered and to clarify the issues further. The observation that John M. Steadman makes about Paradise Lost also applies to Milton’s entire canon.
The items in this bibliography are organized in five categories: (1) epic, (2) tragedy, (3) prose, (4) minor poetry, and (5) general criticism. Listings within these categories are alphabetical.
