Particle Simulation In Contact Mechanics Of A Bouncing Elastic Ball, Donald Greenspan
Particle Simulation In Contact Mechanics Of A Bouncing Elastic Ball, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
An elastic ball is simulated by considering lumped mass molecular sets called particles. Particles are allowed to interact only locally in a fashion similar to that employed in molecular mechanics. Under local and gravity forces an n-body problem results when initial data are prescribed. By scaling the forces, the resulting n-body problem is solved numerically using only a scientific personal computer. A variety of examples of bouncing balls are described and discussed.

Challenging The Status Quo : Toward Smaller, Smarter Government : A Report From The Texas Performance Review, Texas Performance Review (Agency), Texas Comptroller's Office
Documents from the State of Texas-Archive
This report includes proposals that initially appeared in the Texas Performance Review's staff draft issued in December 1998, as well as new issues developed at my direction. Other issues have been modified to reflect new information, improved recommendations, and other amendments that make sense for Texas. This report demonstrates the firm commitment of this office to introduce innovation and best practices into government operations, so that we may serve Texas taxpayers in the most cost-effective way possible. In all, the proposals in Challenging the Status Quo will free up $1.25 billion in all funds during the 2000-01 biennium, including $429.6 …

The First Full-Scale Accelerated Pavement Test In Louisiana: Development And Findings, J.B. Metcalf, Stefan Romanoschi, Y. Li, M. Rasoulian
Civil Engineering Faculty Publications - Archive
The Pavement Research Facility in Port Allen, Louisiana houses the first full-scale accelerated pavement testing experiment in the state. The purpose of the first experiment was to evaluate the historically prevalent flexible crushed stone and in-place soil cement stabilized base construction in comparison to several alternative base construction materials and construction processes for pavements designed for a semi-tropical climate. Loading is provided by an Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) machine, the second of its type in the United States. More than six million equivalent axle loads (ESALs) were applied to the nine test lanes. Performance of the pavement structures and materials …

A Molecular Mechanics Simulation Of Cracks And Fractures In A Sheet Of Ice, Donald Greenspan
A Molecular Mechanics Simulation Of Cracks And Fractures In A Sheet Of Ice, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
Rectangular, two dimensional sheets of ice molecules are both stressed and compressed. Computer examples compare dynamical responses when the plate has a slot or does not have a slot. The mechanisms for both crack and fracture development are clearly delineated on the molecular level.

The Compass Rose
The purpose of The Compass Rose is to raise awareness of Special Collections' resources and to foster the use of these resources. The newsletter also reports significant new programs, initiatives, and acquisitions of Special Collections. The issues included here are scans of print newsletters from the 1990s and 2000s. Current issues and posts of The Compass Rose can now be accessed on the UTA Libraries Compass Rose Blog.
Emerging And Evolving Occupations In Texas : A Descriptive Analysis Of Forty-Seven Occupations, Texas State Occupational Information Coordinating Committee
Emerging And Evolving Occupations In Texas : A Descriptive Analysis Of Forty-Seven Occupations, Texas State Occupational Information Coordinating Committee
Documents from the State of Texas-Archive
In the first year of the study, a methodology was developed to identify target industries with the best possibility for employing emerging and evolving occupations. Using existing labor market information and industry payroll titles, a list of candidate occupations was created. The second year of the study, whose findings are presented in this report, focused on validating the candidate list with industry experts and collecting descriptive variables for the resulting list of emerging and evolving occupations. This is not offered as an exhaustive list of emerging and evolving occupations in the state. The focus of the study had to be …

Molecular Cavity Flow, Donald Greenspan
Molecular Cavity Flow, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
Using molecular mechanics, cavity flow is studied in a basin of 4235 water molecules at 15°C. Primary vortices are generated with wallspeeds [see pdf for notation]. The vortex motions agree with experimental results in the large. Fully turbulent flow is generated with wallspeed .V = 3000°A/ps. The mechanisms for primary vortex generation are clearly delineated, as are those for turbulent flow.

Texas Recreational Trails Fund Application Guide, Texas Parks And Wildlife Department, Texas Parks And Wildlife Department Land Conservation Program
Documents from the State of Texas-Archive
The Symms National Recreational Trails Act, authorized by Congress and signed by the 61 President in 1991 as part of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, created a 7.1% new federal trails assistance program. The recreational trails program receives its funding from a portion of federal gas taxes paid on fuel used in non-highway recreational vehicles. Funds can be spent to construct new recreational trails, improve/maintain existing trails, develop/improve trailheads or trailside facilities, and acquire trail corridor/easements. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is administering the funds in Texas under the approval of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Funding provided …

The Cartographic Collections Of Virginia Garrett, Katherine R. Goodwin
Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography Gallery Guides
An exhibit that commemorates the gift of Fort Worth native, Virigina Garrett, of her map collection to the University of Texas at Arlington. The Garrett Collection encompasses approximately 900 maps dating from Europe's early contact with the New World in the early 1500s and extending into the early 20th century. The maps include world, hemisphere, regional, Republic of Texas, and state views, as well as a few specialist county and city views. With the exception of the country and city maps, most of other maps share one common attribute - they depict the Gulf of Mexico.
