Does Bimodal Stimulation Improve Or Interfere With Consonant Perception?, Courtney J. Austin, Rose Dumont, Alexander Kain, Holden Sanders, Lina Reiss

Research Colloquium

Bimodal stimulation, the usage of both a cochlear implant and a hearing aid in the contralateral ear, is noted for improving speech perception in noisy backgrounds for some hearing-impaired individuals. However, the usage of both devices provides a range of variability in benefit that relate to difference in pitch fusion range. Hearing impaired populations are noted to have broad binaural fusion ranges compared to normal hearing population, effecting the ability to perceive certain syllables. In studies involving vowels classification and fusion, bimodal CI users showed significant difference in both CI-only conditions and HA-only conditions, compared to the bimodal conditions (Reiss …

Text-To-Model Transformation: Natural Language-Based Model Generation Framework, Aditya Akundi, Joshua Ontiveros, Sergio Luna Sep 2024

Text-To-Model Transformation: Natural Language-Based Model Generation Framework, Aditya Akundi, Joshua Ontiveros, Sergio Luna

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications

System modeling language (SysML) diagrams generated manually by system modelers can sometimes be prone to errors, which are time-consuming and introduce subjectivity. Natural language processing (NLP) techniques and tools to create SysML diagrams can aid in improving software and systems design processes. Though NLP effectively extracts and analyzes raw text data, such as text-based requirement documents, to assist in design specification, natural language, inherent complexity, and variability pose challenges in accurately interpreting the data. In this paper, we explore the integration of NLP with SysML to automate the generation of system models from input textual requirements. We propose a model …

Psychological Science Faculty Publications

Since there are many sources of unconscious information in our minds, there is a possibility that multiple channels of unconscious information can affect a response at the same time. However, this question has been largely ignored by researchers. In the present study, we presented two opposite pointing arrows as the masked primes followed by a target arrow. The results suggested that the two directions in which the two prime arrows are pointing influenced the response to the target simultaneously and additively, that is, the overall priming effect caused by the two opposite pointing prime arrows was equal to the net …
