Recent news stories reported that the U.S. military is currently experiencing an unprecedented recruiting crisis. In fact, between 2022-2023, the U.S. armed forces (the Army in particular) failed to meet their numbers by a large margin: against goals of 232,021 accessions for 2022 and 244,533 for 2023, the branches collectively missed their targets by 40,369 and 41,336 accessions respectively. Even though the branches proved able to meet their recruitment goals – although barely – in fiscal year 2024, concerns continue to linger.

World systems theory argues that wealthier nations exploit less developed nations, exerting their power and influence to take advantage of resources, often with little pushback. However, there is an ever-growing number of conflicts organized by citizens and activists alike that seek to push-back against the exploitation of their homes and labor, working to resist the political corruption and foreign manipulation within their governments. This study tested the accuracy and reliability of a biometric vehicle occupancy detection technology. Downloaded onto a carpooler’s mobile device, the app enables measuring the number of passengers in a vehicle for purposes of high occupancy vehicle (HOV) and high occupancy toll (HOT) lane management and incentivization. Volunteers recruited from South Florida, the Tampa Bay area, and Utah used the app to log carpool trips that were recorded and validated by the app. The data were compared against digital photos taken at the same time as the trip to verify that the carpool validation was correct. This study developed a reliable scale for measuring Social Capital in the context of tourism operations and examines its influences on Peoples' Involvement. The quantitative research method was employed, and the five stages of data purification processes were performed: identification of dimensions and indicators, item-to-total correlation, and explorative factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and the structural equation model. The study identifies four dimensional scales of social capital across 13 indicators: bonding social capital, social bridging capital, social linking capital, and social harmless capital, and confirms that social capital has a significant influence on peoples' involvement. Assessments analysts are extensively trained in the application of analytic techniques, but less time is spent equipping them with the tools needed to communicate their assessments effectively. Great pains can be taken to frame, research, and answer an assessment question, but that effort is wasted if the message isn’t heard and embraced by decision makers. This article examines the dangers of Western discourse misrepresenting and normalizing Hamas, a fundamentalist terrorist group, as a legitimate actor in regional crises and conflicts. It explores Hamas' origins as a global terrorist organization, its history of armed conflict with neighbors and the broader Western world, and its ideological roots in religious fundamentalism and totalitarianism. The article argues that Hamas’ principles and actions are fundamentally incompatible with Western democratic ideals, posing a significant threat to regional and global security. Conditionality, the practice of attaching conditions to aid, loans, or grant assistance, has become a ubiquitous feature of security assistance. Conditionality is predicted on its deterrent or motivational effects with the ultimate goal being to incentivize and influence the behavior of recipient countries to align with the strategic interests and values of the provider country. While lauded for its potential to promote reforms and good governance, conditionality has also been criticized for its intrusiveness, ineffectiveness, and potential to undermine national sovereignty. The importance of narratives in the constitution of Russian strategic culture has been largely neglected. This is due to the common assumption that Russian strategic culture is out there, historically determined, and constant from the Russian Empire through the Soviet Union to Putin’s Russia. This article argues that Russian strategic culture is not ‘etched in stone,’ but a dynamic ‘context’ in the making of which stories told about the past and the present, the Russian self and its others, threats and aspirations play a constitutive role. This piece summarizes the author’s 2001 trip to Anlong Veng, Cambodia, to visit the location of Pol Pot’s cremation near the former headquarters of the Khmer Rouge guerilla movement. The paper describes the terrain that must be traversed in order to get there, and the individuals one encounters along the way. In the process, aspects of Cambodian history and culture are revealed.
