The Use Of Geospatial Imagery In Myanmar For Mass Atrocity Prevention, Elisenda Calvet-Martínez
The Use Of Geospatial Imagery In Myanmar For Mass Atrocity Prevention, Elisenda Calvet-Martínez
Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal
This paper aims to explore to what extent the usage of geospatial imagery can serve as a tool for atrocity prevention in a context of armed conflict and post-conflict. While most attention has been paid to the use of geospatial imagery to document mass atrocities for advocacy and accountability purposes, less attention has attracted the potential of this technology as a preventive tool. In the case of Myanmar, a special interest is on how to advance in the use of geospatial imagery to guarantee the safe return of the Rohingya refugees and how to prevent acts of genocide after the …
Metals-Based Additive Manufacturing Methods And Systems With Thermal Monitoring And Control, Michael Cai Wang, Rasim Guldiken
Metals-Based Additive Manufacturing Methods And Systems With Thermal Monitoring And Control, Michael Cai Wang, Rasim Guldiken
USF Patents
A metals-based additive manufacturing machine and method are disclosed. The machine and method include a hybrid temperature monitoring system. The hybrid temperature monitoring system includes a Raman spectrometer, a single-element ultrasound transducer, and a phased-array ultrasound pair. The hybrid temperature monitoring system can generate a real-time three-dimensional temperature map of the melt pool and optionally a portion of the metal powder base and/or a formed portion of a desired artifact. The real-time three-dimensional temperature map can be used for optimizing the metals-based additive manufacturing process in real-time or during subsequent process runs.

A breathing monitor that includes a contactless sensor that uses magneto-LC resonance technology is provided. The breathing monitor collects breathing data from a patient that indicates a breathing pattern of the patient. A model trained using machine learning using breathing patterns collected from patients known to have different stages of COVID-19 is used to process the collected breathing data and to determine whether the patient has COVID-19. The model further determines the stage of COVID-19. The breathing monitor can identify likely COVID-19 infections faster than existing tests and requires no contact between the patient and a medical professional, which is …

Magneto-Lc Resonance Technology For Real-Time Respiratory Motion Monitoring, Manh-Huong Phan, Ongard Thiabgoh, Tatiana Marie Eggers
USF Patents
A non-contact respiratory monitoring system comprises a magnetic microwire sensor coil that detects magnetic field changes due to motion of a magnet attached to a patient's chest. Field lines emanating from the magnet are parallel to a circumferential loop area of the coil and the coil is positioned at a distance to magnetically couple to the magnet. Impedance in the coil changes when the distance of the magnet to the coil changes due to the patient's breathing. An alternating voltage across coil is modified by the change in impedance. An impedance analyzer coupled to the coil applies the alternating voltage …

Understanding Russian Hybrid Warfare Against Europe In The Energy Sector And In The Future ‘Energy-Resources-Climate’ Security Nexus., Maurizio Geri
Journal of Strategic Security
To avoid escalations to full kinetic (military) wars is imperative to win the non-kinetic part of the so-called “hybrid warfare”, which use both kinetic and non-kinetic methods. The goal of the non-kinetic methods of hybrid warfare, or as others call it “grey zone” activities, or “subthreshold” tactics, is to defeat hearts and minds, as well as pockets, of adversaries, with social, political, and economic tools. This article focuses on energy as the crucial sector of the economic tools, and specifically uses an innovative approach, what the author calls the ‘energy-resources-climate security nexus’, as a new battleground for future strategic competition …
Regulating Deepfakes: An Indian Perspective, Shinu Vig
Regulating Deepfakes: An Indian Perspective, Shinu Vig
Journal of Strategic Security
Deepfakes are a growing concern throughout the world including India. Deepfakes can be used for several purposes, both innocuous or malicious. In India, several problems related to regulation of deepfakes have emerged. This paper makes an examination of current legal challenges posed by deepfakes as well as solutions in India that can be repurposed to address these challenges, including intellectual property laws, criminal laws, and the right to privacy. While these existing laws can be used to address certain aspects of the deep fake problem, there is an increasing recognition that specific legislations and regulations addressing deep fakes and synthetic …

Business Failure Mode And Effects Analysis: A Risk Based Holistic Strategy To Improve Success Rates Of Small Technology Businesses, Krishnakumar R. Nair
Business Failure Mode And Effects Analysis: A Risk Based Holistic Strategy To Improve Success Rates Of Small Technology Businesses, Krishnakumar R. Nair
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Multiple US and global statistics show that small businesses are vital to economic development but fail at a startling rate. Small technology businesses (STBs) are around 35% of this small business segment. The central problem addressed in this research is to reduce their short lives and enable growth and stability. The solution is a significant business management strategy iteratively developed by working with business owners and practitioners. A holistic approach to view the business as a whole to address premature failures is not available, and this research presents a comprehensive approach to solving that problem. The study developed a novel …
