Supply Management Of Auto Traffic To Address Starvation Of Green In Multimodal Environments, David Florence, Niyati Shah, Debbie Albert, Nadeem Chaudhary, Srinivasa Sunkari Jan 2024

Supply Management Of Auto Traffic To Address Starvation Of Green In Multimodal Environments, David Florence, Niyati Shah, Debbie Albert, Nadeem Chaudhary, Srinivasa Sunkari

Research Reports

Traffic congestion is challenging to resolve at closely spaced, oversaturated intersections. This condition leads to underutilization of green time at upstream intersections due to queue spillback from downstream traffic signals (green starvation). Such conditions cause significant delays and queue backups. In addition, conflicting modes of travel, such as pedestrians or rail, may exist at a site and limit available strategies to manage the green time effectively. This project explored strategies to increase utilization of green time that account for conflicting modes of travel. This project used a field deployment and hardware-in-the-loop simulation analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies in …

Dynamic Prediction Of Shared Micromobility Usage With Multi-Task Learning, Yujie Guo, Ying Chen, Yu Zhang

Research Reports

Taxis and Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) are important components of the urban transportation system. An accurate short-term forecast of passenger demand can help operators better allocate taxi or TNC services to achieve supply–demand balance in real time. As a result, drivers can improve the efficiency of passenger pick-ups, thereby reducing traffic congestion and contributing to the overall sustainability of the program. Previous research has proposed sophisticated machine learning and neural-network-based models to predict the short-term demand for taxi or TNC services. However, few of them jointly consider both modes, even though the short-term demand for taxis and TNCs is closely …

Capítulo 12 Introducción A Html Y Al Desarrollo De Sitios Web, Shambhavi Roy, Clinton Daniel, Manish Agrawal, Pablo Brescia, Clara Olivia Ocampo, Sonia Labrador

Analyzing Archive Transit Multibeam Data For Nodule Occurrences, Mark E. Mussett, David F. Naar, David W. Caress, Tracey A. Conrad, Alastair G. C. Graham, Max Kaufmann, Marcia Maia

Marine Science Faculty Publications

We show that analyzing archived and future multibeam backscatter and bathymetry data, in tandem with regional environmental parameters, can help to identify polymetallic nodule fields in the world’s oceans. Extensive archived multibeam transit data through remote areas of the world’s oceans are available for data mining. New multibeam data will be made available through the Seabed 2030 Project. Uniformity of along- and across-track backscatter, backscatter intensity, angular response, water depth, nearby ground-truth data, local slope, sedimentation rate, and seafloor age provide thresholds for discriminating areas that are permissive to nodule presence. A case study of this methodology is presented, using …

“Part Of The Team”: In-House Sports Reporters Navigating The Journalistic Periphery, Gregory P. Perreault, Daniel Nölleke, Monica Crawford, Ella Hackett

School of Advertising & Mass Communications Faculty Publications

In recent years, the sports communication landscape has seen changes in terms of who occupies the role of sports reporter. In-house reporters, or sports communicators employed by specific clubs, teams, or leagues, now contribute content to the sports media landscape. This study explores the complicated relationship between in-house reporters’ self-perceived professional identities and in-houses reporters’ perceptions of their audiences through the lens of Bourdieusian field theory. As such, it sees in-house reporters as peripheral actors negotiating the boundaries of the sports journalism field. Through semi-structured interviews with 28 in-house sports reporters from the United States and Austria, our findings suggest …

Stormwater Infrastructure As A Socio-Ecological System: The Case Of Aaran’S Pond, Cya Moore, Serena A. Echols, E. Christian Wells

Weather, Climate, and Society REU

This poster examines stormwater ponds as complex adaptive ecosystems in the urban environment, in which community residents and other stakeholders are integral components. Stormwater ponds are important forms of green infrastructure used to control flooding in the Tampa Bay area. These ponds also can help mitigate the flow of nutrients into the bay, which can cause harmful algal blooms that impact people and marine life. With increasing frequency and intensity of flooding events due to climate change, some stormwater ponds, such as Aaran’s Pond in the University Area Community near the USF Tampa campus, are becoming less effective at flood …

Enhancing Erp Auditability And Compliance Using Permissioned Blockchain, A Framework For Transparent And Immutable Enterprise Resource Planning Systems., Manikantha Varaprasad Inakollu

Computer Science and Engineering Faculty Publications

Enterprise Resource Planning systems serve as the backbone of modern organizational operations, yet their centralized architecture creates significant challenges for auditability and regulatory compliance. This research proposes a permissioned blockchain framework to enhance ERP auditability by creating immutable, transparent, and traceable records of all system transactions and modifications. The study addresses critical gaps in current ERP systems where transaction histories can be altered, audit trails prove insufficient, and compliance verification remains cumbersome. Through examination of existing ERP limitations and blockchain capabilities, we develop an integrated architecture that maintains operational efficiency while providing cryptographic assurance of data integrity. Our framework employs …

As sea levels rise and temperatures increase, vegetation communities in tropical and sub-tropical coastal areas will be stressed; some will migrate northward and inland. The transition from coastal marshes and scrub–shrubs to woody mangroves is a fundamental change to coastal community structure and species composition. However, this transition will likely be episodic, complicating monitoring efforts, as mangrove advances are countered by dieback from increasingly impactful storms. Coastal habitat monitoring has traditionally been conducted through satellite and ground-based surveys. Here we investigate the use of UAV-LiDAR (unoccupied aerial vehicle–light detection and ranging) and multispectral photogrammetry to study a Florida coastal wetland. …
