Do Burnout Perception Levels Of Nurses Working In The Health Sector Differ According To Demographic Characteristics?, Irfan Akkoc, Korhan Arun
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
The challenge of today’s healthcare environment, especially with the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, is not only about task burdens or degrading work/life balance but about immerse expectations from all shareholders, including governments, patients, and administrations. Thus, even if nurses are trained and the most experienced professionals, dealing with these challenges is related to different factors like training and practice level, age, and family support. So, the main aim of this paper is to find out the effects of demographic characteristics of nurses on burnout and its dimensions. The sample is 71 nurses from Izmir / Turkey. The survey results …

Comparative Analysis Of Tools For Matching Work-Related Skill Profiles With Cv Data And Other Unstructured Data, Florian Buttiker, Stefan Roth, Tobias Steinacher, Thomas Hanne
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Matching job candidates with job offerings is one of the most important business tasks and is crucial to the success of a company. But there is not much knowledge available about the quality of matchings processed automatically by software. With a specifically developed scoring system it becomes possible to make a statement about the quality of the matching results generated by three different tools, i.e., Textkernel, Joinvision and Sovren. A series of resumes is being matched against two concrete open job positions, one by Google and one by the University of Zurich. The results are then compared in detail with …

Decentralized Approach To Deep-Learning Based Asset Allocation, Sarthak Sengupta, Priyanshu Priyam, Anurika Vaish
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Investment is an artistic science. The study discusses deep learning-based techniques for asset allocation. Deep learning is a subset of machine learning. The majority of the population lacks either the skills or the time to self-analyze the different financial investment options available to them and therefore they seek the help of the portfolio managers who make trading decisions on behalf of their clients depending on their risk appetite. Besides, portfolio managers analyze different assets, compare the strengths and weaknesses of each option before making a decision about which equities are suitable, to optimally balance profit and risks. This makes portfolio …
Influence Of Psychological Empowerment On Employee Competence In Nigerian Universal Basic Education System: The Mediating Role Of Work Engagement, Isah Sani, Rashidah B. M. Ibrahim, Fazida Karim
Influence Of Psychological Empowerment On Employee Competence In Nigerian Universal Basic Education System: The Mediating Role Of Work Engagement, Isah Sani, Rashidah B. M. Ibrahim, Fazida Karim
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
The main purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating role of work engagement (WE) on the link between psychological empowerment and employee competence (EC). The Ability Motivation Theory (AMO) stress the importance of practices that are capable of enhancing individual’s competence towards the achievement of organizational objectives. While considering psychological empowerment as one of the best practices influencing employee competence in an organization, some previous studies only considered other internal resources such like human resource practices. Studies that attempt to investigate the effect of psychological empowerment on EC and the mechanism through which it influences employee’s competence seem …
A Gap Analysis Of Satisfaction Among International Students Studying In The United States, Sandy C. Chen
A Gap Analysis Of Satisfaction Among International Students Studying In The United States, Sandy C. Chen
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
International students brought a broad range of benefits to the United States before the COVID-19 pandemic, from billions of dollars of tuition and fees directly paid to host universities to economic impacts on the country’s inbound tourism made by the students’ families. Nevertheless, the choice to study in the United States presented many challenges and problems for them. A survey of the existing literature showed that expectations of and perceptions toward their academic studies and professional development of these students, particularly those from mainland China, has been less explored. This paper was thus designed to fill this void by collecting …

Effect Of Social Media Marketing On Online Retail Performance Of Konga Nigeria Ltd, Abubakar A. Adamu, Muhammed Yazeed, Mohammed A. Dantsoho, Jamilu Abdulkadir, Aliyu A. Gemu
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
In Nigeria, e-commerce companies treat estimated delivery dates with a lack of confidence, as some industry insiders suggested. In an already small and addressable market, potential customers can shop on international e-commerce platform alternatives far more conveniently than on local, fragmented ones. With a market unsuitable for e-commerce, underdeveloped digital payment services and poor logistics and shipping infrastructure have resulted in high operating costs. With that in mind, this study examines the effect of social media marketing on the online retail performance of Konga Nigeria Ltd. In this study, data was collected using a questionnaire technique and a sample size …
The Is Social Continuance Model: Using Conversational Agents To Support Co-Creation, Naif Alawi
The Is Social Continuance Model: Using Conversational Agents To Support Co-Creation, Naif Alawi
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
With the rise of Agentic IS Artifact and the increasing integration of this technology within organizations, our understanding of the impact of this technology on individuals remains limited. Although IS use literature provides important guidance for organization to increase employees’ willingness to work with new technology implementations, the utilitarian view of prior IS use limits its application in light of the new evolving social interaction between humans and Agentic IS Artifacts. To that end, we contribute to the IS use literature by implementing a social view to understand the impact of Agentic IS Artifacts on an individual’s perception and behavior. …

The Cost Of Mathematical Illiteracy: Review Of Innumeracy In The Wild By Ellen Peters (2020), Anne Kelly
Numeracy
In Innumeracy in the Wild (Oxford University Press, 2020), Ellen Peters, a researcher in decision science, persuasively argues that numeracy skills, numeric confidence, and our intuitive sense for numbers impact our lifelong outcomes in health and wellbeing. Peters draws from research and real-world examples to show how daily life for innumerate people is different from that of numerate people and makes practical recommendations on improving how we communicate numerical information.

Development And Validation Of A Scale To Measure Songwriting Self-Efficacy (Sses) With Secondary Music Students, Patrick K. Cooper
Development And Validation Of A Scale To Measure Songwriting Self-Efficacy (Sses) With Secondary Music Students, Patrick K. Cooper
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Social cognitive theory was developed to explain how individuals learn, in part, by witnessing the behavior of others. Self-efficacy is a construct within social cognitive theory which indicates the beliefs that an individual can be successful at a task under specific situational demands. The sources of self-efficacy include self-evaluating past experiences to predict future success, comparing our abilities to those around us, the verbal and social feedback we get from others, and the physiological feelings we experience when engaged in or thinking about the task. Measures of self-efficacy have been shown to be accurate predictors of successful learning outcomes, achievement, …

Bad Bunny’S Purplewashing As Gender Violence In Reggaeton: A Feminist Analysis Of Solo De Mi And Yo Perreo Sola, Dairíne Hoban
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Bad Bunny has skyrocketed to fame in the past few years, gaining worldwide recognition as one of the best reggaetoneros of his time. His self-promoted image as an ally to women’s movements and the Queer community has garnered him the recognition of being a role model for youth and as an anomaly in the misogynistic genre of reggaeton. However, few have looked beyond the assertion of allyship to see if his work truly does support women and anti-gender violence ideology. While scholarship on reggaeton has well documented the prevalence of gender violence in the lyrics, videos and overall culture of …
Multidimensional Well-Being Across Time Scales In Caregivers And Non-Caregivers, Victoria R. Marino
Multidimensional Well-Being Across Time Scales In Caregivers And Non-Caregivers, Victoria R. Marino
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Contemporary research on informal caregiving recognizes that, though stressful, providing care for a disabled family member or friend can bring psychological benefits, such as increased meaning or purpose in life, growing closer to the care recipient, and learning new skills. Scales of eudaimonic well-being (EWB – e.g., meaning in life, personal growth, and positive relations with others) developed in positive psychology literature offer an innovative solution to incorporating caregiving benefits into between-groups comparisons of caregiver and non-caregiver well-being, which have typically focused on cross-sectional assessment of hedonic well-being (HWB – i.e., negative/positive affect and life satisfaction). Moreover, using daily using …

"25 Years Later And I'M Still Here...Still Positive": Older Black Males' Lived Experiences Of Aging With Hiv In Hillsborough County, Fl, Bernice Kathleen Lopez-Mccoy
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Today, adults aged fifty and older are the fastest growing segment of those living with HIV/AIDS. Yet, little remains known about the socio-cultural consequences of aging with HIV, and whether social and health care infrastructure is currently adequate to meet the unique needs of this population. Particularly understudied are older minority men aging with HIV. Drawing from an anthropological life course perspective and tenets of Becker’s (1997) framework on life disruption and reorganization, this dissertation research investigated older, Black males’ experiences of disruption and reorganization from aging with HIV in the present landscape of HIV care. This research comprised of the …

Informing Indigent Health Care Service Programs Within A Local Government Context: Strategies For Population-Based Service Planning, Assessment, And Policy Development, Joshua Troy Barnett
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The number of medically indigent adults continues to grow in the United States, despite recent expansions in health care coverage to individuals who are non-disabled, low income, and uninsured. Indigent health care programs (IHCPs) are safety net services that are often funded and operated by local governments. These IHCPs provide access to health services at low to no-cost which protect the health and financial welfare of the individuals these programs serve and support the sustainability of the health systems that treat them. Although localities continue to expand their presence in safety net health care delivery, little is known about locally …
Healthcare Data Analytics For Predicting Health Outcomes Of Older Adults And Emergency Responses Of Aged Care Facilities, Nazmus Sakib
Healthcare Data Analytics For Predicting Health Outcomes Of Older Adults And Emergency Responses Of Aged Care Facilities, Nazmus Sakib
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The United States (US) is experiencing rapid growth in its older adult population, who may suffer from multiple chronic diseases, injuries, and impairments. To meet with the excess demand without compromising the quality of care for older adults, the current aged care systems, such as nursing home systems, will face unprecedented challenges of healthcare resource shortage with rising costs. Accurate prediction of health outcomes of individual older adults will facilitate the aged care professionals to better prioritize healthcare resources for the most at-risk individuals with more focused care and provide more proactive and individualized treatment and care delivery. In addition, …
Measuring Parental Involvement As Parental Actions In Children’S Private Music Lessons In China, Cancan Cui
Measuring Parental Involvement As Parental Actions In Children’S Private Music Lessons In China, Cancan Cui
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Anonymity has long been discussed as a source of disinhibition. The myth of the Ring of Gyges illustrates how a person may act immorally solely because they know they will not be caught (Plato, 375/2017). Incorporating perspectives of rational choice and deterrence, anonymity serves as a form of risk reduction within hedonistic calculus (Beccaria, 1764/1963; Bentham, 1781/2000). Analogous to the myth of the Ring of Gyges (Plato, 375/2017), techniques of anonymity “hide” users from others while online. These techniques serve as a form of risk reduction, reducing the certainty of punishment (Becarria 1764/1963). Additionally, there are many ways by which …
The Adaptive, Social, Communication, And Cognitive Skills Of Monolingual And Bilingual Toddlers With Autism, Marcela A. Galicia
The Adaptive, Social, Communication, And Cognitive Skills Of Monolingual And Bilingual Toddlers With Autism, Marcela A. Galicia
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The rates of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD; Center for Disease Control [CDC], 2019) and bilingual individuals are rapidly increasing in the United States (Zeigler & Camarota, 2019). Yet, research on the global development of bilingual children with ASD is limited. Despite the lack of research in this vein, educators and clinicians are tasked with the assessment and intervention planning for culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) children with ASD (Dilly & Hall, 2019). There are mixed findings regarding the effect of bilingual exposure on the development of adaptive, social, communication, and cognitive skills of children with ASD (e.g., Hambly & Fombonne, …
School Nurses’ Attitudes And Perceptions Toward Supporting Students With Chronic Health Conditions In An Ecological System, Destiny L. Singleton
School Nurses’ Attitudes And Perceptions Toward Supporting Students With Chronic Health Conditions In An Ecological System, Destiny L. Singleton
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Chronic health conditions impact one in four school-aged youth (Van Cleave, Gortmaker, & Perrin, 2010). Supplemental to the medical challenges that students with chronic health conditions face, they also are at risk for a variety of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional adversities. Using an ecological approach for addressing the diverse needs of students with chronic health conditions has been deemed valuable due to the array of key stakeholders, institutions, policies, and cultural norms that impact the development of the pediatric population. A key stakeholder in supporting the functioning of school-aged children with chronic illnesses is the school nurse. School nurses’ skills …

A Field-Wide Examination Of Cross-Listed Courses In Technical Professional Communication, Carolyn M. Gubala
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study assesses cross-listed courses (courses with a mix of undergraduate and graduate students) to uncover current pedagogical and programmatic trends at a field-wide level. The applied mixed-methods study provides important foundational insights into an under researched area in Technical and Professional Communication (TPC). Research questions include: What courses are cross-listed? How does offering these courses affect writing programs and writing program administration? Through the use of three types of data: (1) course data from institutional documents, (2) interview data from program administrators and/or faculty, and (3) pedagogical materials (syllabi and assignment sheets) from the courses supplied by administrators or …
Predictors Of Goal Attainment Among High School Students In Accelerated Academic Curricula Receiving School-Based Motivational Interviewing Intervention, Camille E. Hanks
Predictors Of Goal Attainment Among High School Students In Accelerated Academic Curricula Receiving School-Based Motivational Interviewing Intervention, Camille E. Hanks
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs represent a unique group of adolescents given the high demands of their rigorous coursework and the elevated stress they experience compared to peers in the general education (Suldo & Shaunessy-Dedrick, 2013). These students are often missed in traditional screening procedures that tend to identify students struggling academically or exhibiting disruptive behaviors. Fortunately, Shaunessy-Dedrick and colleagues (2021) developed a comprehensive school-based intervention program, including universal (Tier 1) and selective (Tier 2) components, which aims to support the well-being of AP/IB students. The Tier 2 component of this program (i.e., …
The Nature Of Resilience: A Person-Centered Approach Using Latent Profile Analysis, Yuejia Teng
The Nature Of Resilience: A Person-Centered Approach Using Latent Profile Analysis, Yuejia Teng
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Resilience research has become increasingly popular in organizational sciences in recent years. Different factor structures of resilience have been proposed and yet no consensus has been reached regarding its underlying dimensions. Such a variable-centered perspective of studying resilience may be well complemented by a typological approach, which may shed fresh light on the nature of resilience. The current study took a person-centered approach with the advantage of using latent profile analysis to explore a set of latent profiles of resilience. Two studies were conducted. In Study 1 (N = 479), archival undergraduate data were used to explore resilience profiles and …
Development And Testing Of The Performance Diagnostic Checklist For Instructors, Jesse Depaolo
Development And Testing Of The Performance Diagnostic Checklist For Instructors, Jesse Depaolo
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Behavior analysts have been studying behavior related to academic instruction for decades (Dunlap et al., 2001). Instruction has focused primarily on K-12 teachers with much less emphasis on college level instructors (Baum & McPherson, 2019). Additionally, studies related to improving instruction often lack information related to why a particular intervention was chosen. Creating an assessment tool to assist in determining interventions that would be most effective for improving classroom or virtual instruction could be beneficial. Therefore, the purpose of study one was to develop the Performance Diagnostic Checklist for Instructors (PDC-I) which will help guide supervisors of college instructors into …
Stressors, Resources, And Psychological Well-Being Among Working Black And White Caregivers In The United States, Maureen E. Templeman
Stressors, Resources, And Psychological Well-Being Among Working Black And White Caregivers In The United States, Maureen E. Templeman
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
By the year 2060 in the United States (U.S.), not only will the number of adults aged 65 and older double, non-Hispanic Whites (Whites), who currently constitute 77% of the older adult population, will constitute just slightly more than half of older adults. As the older adult population diversifies, so will their caregivers. Over 60% of informal caregivers of older adults (caregivers) are employed, and the majority of these are employed full time. Little is known about the unique experiences of working Black or African American (Black/AA) and White caregivers and non-caregivers in the U.S. This dissertation consists of three …
Early Indicators Of Cognitive Dysfunction: The Role Of Mild Behavioral Impairment, Hillary J. Rouse
Early Indicators Of Cognitive Dysfunction: The Role Of Mild Behavioral Impairment, Hillary J. Rouse
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Older age is associated with an increased risk for cognitively impairing diseases such as dementia. Despite significant research to find ways to cure this disease, there has been little success. However, a critical need when an intervention is discovered is a need to find ways to identify people who are at the greatest risk of developing dementia earlier in the disease process so that interventions can be implemented at that time. This could potentially lessen their risk or delay when they are diagnosed. Using longitudinal data from the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC), the aims of this current dissertation were …

Exploring Adult Attachment In Intimate Relationships Among Women Who Were Exposed To Intimate Partner Violence In Childhood: A Convergent Mixed Methods Approach, Ngozichukwuka C. Agu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Background: Trauma in childhood including exposure to intimate partner violence is associated with a myriad of negative outcomes in physical health, mental health, academic performance, and relationship domains. Adult attachment in intimate relationships is a key factor that determines several health outcomes as well as healthy relationships. This study explored: 1) the perceptions of childhood exposures to intimate partner violence and how these exposures could have impacted adult attachment; 2) the perceptions of relationship factors that play a role in the development of adult attachment in intimate relationships; and 3) the behavioral and socioenvironmental influences that frame perceptions of adult …
Poetic Justice: A Counter-Narrative Of The First Black Male Principal In A Coastal Community Since The Desegregation Era, Adrian Anthony
Poetic Justice: A Counter-Narrative Of The First Black Male Principal In A Coastal Community Since The Desegregation Era, Adrian Anthony
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Entering a new school as a new principal, and the first black male administrator in a community since the desegregation era, was fraught with challenges that have a universal cadence. Additionally, the three-year school turnaround initiative I entered had its own unique barriers. My voice quivers, my head sinks low, my eyes averted but this no more, for I uphold the mantle of men of bronze, for I will lead within this challenge and my voice will go on (Anthony, 2020). Using critical race theory as a framework with counter-storytelling I examined leadership and different forms of racial and gender …
Awareness, Advocacy, And Activism: A Self-Study Of Social Justice Supervision Of Secondary Science Teacher Candidates, Stephanie A. Arthur
Awareness, Advocacy, And Activism: A Self-Study Of Social Justice Supervision Of Secondary Science Teacher Candidates, Stephanie A. Arthur
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As the demographics of public K-12 schools continue to shift towards a wider representation including students of color and students from low-income households, it is critical for new secondary science teachers entering the field to be prepared to teach science that is culturally responsive to their students’ needs and communities. As teacher candidates continue their pedagogical growth while in their final clinical internships in high-needs schools, there is great potential for the university supervisor to support their development within a social justice framework. By encouraging and supporting teacher candidates to include culturally responsive approaches in the biology, chemistry, physics, and …
Interrelation Of Thermal Stimulation With Haptic Perception, Emotion, And Memory, Mehdi Hojatmadani
Interrelation Of Thermal Stimulation With Haptic Perception, Emotion, And Memory, Mehdi Hojatmadani
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Haptics is an interdisciplinary field of science that deals with how humans perceive and respond to different sensory cues perceived through touch. Thermal haptics as a branch deals with how humans perceive the temperature sensation and respond to that. The process in which thermal perception occurs is well known to researchers. What seems missing in the literature is how temperature interacts or sometimes intervenes in other physiological and psychological aspects of our lives. In this research, a series of studies are presented where the main focus was how temperature and brain interact with each other to impede or enhance our …
