Public Transit In The Social Marketing Framework, Devajyoti Deka
Journal of Public Transportation
In view of the recent successes of social marketing in the various areas within the public, nonprofit sector, this study considers public transit as a socially marketable concept. The study contends that although service marketing is also important for the transit industry, there is a greater need for emphasizing the social marketing of transit. It is argued that social marketing of transit will have to deviate from the conventional service marketing approach in the key areas of market identification and segmentation, communication, distribution, and consideration of price.

Naked Flame Tests For, And Human Tolerance To, Foul Air In Caves.

The paper examines the reliability of the "Naked Flame Test" for measuring the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in caves. It reviews the ways in which carbon dioxide gets into caves, how it forms pockets of high concentration and the composition of the atmospheres in these pockets. A cave air index is used to generate theoretical tables of cave atmospheres compositions for two scenarios composed of carbon dioxide from different sources. Conditions for combustion together with levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen (O2) required to extinguish flames are stated. Factors That Influence The Non-Discretionary Work Trip By Bicycle Using Msa-Level Data From The 1990 U.S. Census, Michael R. Baltes

This paper explores an extensive range of factors which might have some contributory influence on the selection of the bicycle as the mode choice for the trip to work using MSA-Ievel data extracted from the 1990 U.S. Census. The sample included 100 percent of the MSAS in the U.S. Regression analysis was employed to provide insight into the contributory factors. The dependent variable used in the analysis was the percentage of the modal split captured by bicycle for the trip to work in each MSA.
