Quantifying Impact Of Robot Perception Accuracy At Landmarks In Decision-Making During Complex Situations, Sheuli Paul, Steven Liu, Akram Alghanmi, Veton Kepuska, Marius Silaghi
Quantifying Impact Of Robot Perception Accuracy At Landmarks In Decision-Making During Complex Situations, Sheuli Paul, Steven Liu, Akram Alghanmi, Veton Kepuska, Marius Silaghi
Florida Conference on Recent Advances in Robotics
Perception and decision making is contextual. Landmarks are components of the environment associated with high perception and localization accuracy and their presence can significantly impact agent beliefs and decisions. Our research focuses on integrating state-of-the-art sensing technologies to enhance human decision-making. The perception model incorporates multi-sensor fusion, utilizing LiDAR, cameras, and inertial sensors to create a dynamic representation of the environment. Object recognition and tracking algorithms further enable the robot to interpret the scene providing valuable insights for informed decision-making. This effort involves a novel perception model tailored for mobile robots, emphasizing its role in assisting humans during decision-making processes. …

Good Medicine Vs. The Gender Binary: An Analysis Of Existing Research On The Effects Of Gender-Normalizing Care For Intersex Patients To Determine The Research Gaps That Must Be Filled In Order To Create Inclusive Clinical Guidelines For All Intersex People, Aimee R. Etheridge
USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)
This thesis examines the medical treatment of intersex individuals through a public health and critical gender theory lens, evaluating whether current gender-normalizing interventions are evidence-based healthcare practices or reflections of the institutionalized gender binary in Western medicine. The study reviews existing literature on intersex prevalence, contemporary standards of care, the physical and psychological consequences of gender-normalizing surgeries and hormone therapies, and the decision-making processes that guide treatment for intersex children. Findings indicate that many interventions, including genital surgeries and gonadectomies performed during infancy or early childhood, often occur before patients can provide informed consent and may result in long-term complications …
Locating, Characterizing, And Comparing Submerged Precontact Site Hubbard Spring To Other Submerged Spring Sites Throughout Florida, Madison Day
USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)
The rise of sea level over the past 20,000 years has led to the submersion of nearly half of Florida’s original land mass, causing freshwater springs hypothesized to have been a gathering spot for prehistoric people to become submerged. As the water rose, humans lost touch with their ancestors’ ways of life and migratory patterns. In recent years, however, interests in the potential significant cultural, archeological, and paleontological resources at submerged spring sites on the West Florida Shelf have spiked among geo-archeologists, historical experts, biologists, and geologists.
The goal of the WF2305 research cruise aboard the R/V Western Flyer was …
Teaching Concept Design Through Structured Practices And Portfolio Projects, Gavin Hadro
Teaching Concept Design Through Structured Practices And Portfolio Projects, Gavin Hadro
USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)
Concept designers serve various roles, but our primary objective is to give workable, inspiring ideas to a development or production team. The greatest difficulty is ensuring designs are visually compelling, intuitively functional, and intellectually stimulating, all at once. This thesis will evaluate what focused practices and strategies best prepare beginning designers to meet all three challenges. Performing industry-relevant tasks that train these skills will, in theory, enable those studying concept design to effectively learn singular skills before attempting to develop a portfolio that showcases an ability to combine them. Potential practices include compositional and storytelling exercises, 3D design studies, reflective …

Spectral Properties Of Wetlands In Michigan Using Remote Sensing To Identify And Classify Wetlands In Roscommon County, Michigan, Kolin Williamson
Spectral Properties Of Wetlands In Michigan Using Remote Sensing To Identify And Classify Wetlands In Roscommon County, Michigan, Kolin Williamson
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Biological, geological, and physical. These are only a handful of the many environmental aspects that wetlands functions maintain and protect. Unfortunately, wetlands within the United States have been razed at an alarming rate. The State of Michigan has not gone through this unscathed either, loosing over 1000 acres of wetland a year. One of the most important tools to prevent this destruction are the maps and programs that show where these essential ecosystems are located. The current, federally-created maps and imaging software in use by environmental consultants and contractors may not be up to date which can pose challenges for …
