A Novel Zno-Methylene Blue Nanocomposite Matrix For Biosensing Application, Shibu Saha, S. K. Arya, S. P. Singh, Vinay Gupta
Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications
A novel hybrid matrix of zinc oxide-methylene blue (ZnO-MB) has been successfully developed for biosensing application. The introduction of methylene blue into the ZnO thin film leads to reduction in the charge transfer resistance and suggests an increase in the electron transfer capacity of the composite. Glucose oxidase (GOx) was chosen as the model enzyme and effectively immobilized on the surface of hybrid ZnO-MB nanocomposite matrix. Electrochemical measurements were employed to study biosensing response of the GOx/ZnO-MB/ITO bioelectrode as a function of glucose concentration. The low oxidation potential (−0.23 V) of the hybrid bioelectrode, in a mediatorless electrolyte, makes it …

A Review Of Wireless And Plc Propagation Channel Characteristics For Smart Grid Environments, Sabih Güzelgöz, Hüseyin Arslan, Arif Islam, Alexander Domijan
Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications
Wireless, power line communication (PLC), fiber optic, Ethernet, and so forth are among the communication technologies on which smart grid communication infrastructure is envisioned to be built. Among these, wireless and PLC-based solutions are attractive considering the cost of initial deployment. Wireless communication deployment in smart grid covers a variety of environments such as indoor, outdoor, and electric-power-system facilities. Similar diversity is expected in PLC deployment as well covering low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) segments of the grid. In spite of being attractive, wireless and PLC channels are very harsh posing great challenges to performance …
Radicalization Into Violent Extremism Ii: A Review Of Conceptual Models And Empirical Research, Randy Borum
Radicalization Into Violent Extremism Ii: A Review Of Conceptual Models And Empirical Research, Randy Borum
Journal of Strategic Security
Over the past decade, analysts have proposed several frameworks to explain the process of radicalization into violent extremism (RVE). These frameworks are based primarily on rational, conceptual models which are neither guided by theory nor derived from systematic research. This article reviews recent (post-9/11) conceptual models of the radicalization process and recent (post-9/11) empirical studies of RVE. It emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between ideological radicalization and terrorism involvement, though both issues deserve further empirical inquiry. Finally, it summarizes some recent RVE-related research efforts, identifies seven things that social science researchers and operational personnel still need to know about violent radicalization, …

Caves And Speleogenesis At Blomstrandsøya, Kongsfjord, W. Spitsbergen, Stein-Erik Lauritzen
Caves And Speleogenesis At Blomstrandsøya, Kongsfjord, W. Spitsbergen, Stein-Erik Lauritzen
KIP Articles
Blomstrandsøya, at Kongsfjord (78 0 57’N), Spitsbergen, is within the high arctic, a completely permafrozen zone. The bedrock consists of Paleozoic marbles and has yielded a surprising amount of karst features. Early phases of hydrothermal, possibly Caledonian, speleogenesis and subsequent Devonian karstification with redbed deposits is well documented. 62 active seacaves, and more than 30 relict karst caves were found in the coastal cliffs and in escarpment faces around the island. All caves have very limited extent; they are either quite short, like most of the active sea caves, or they are soon choked by frozen sediments and ground ice …

Skeletal elements are usually able to withstand several times their usual load before they yield, and this ratio is known as the bone’s safety factor. Limited studies on amphibians and non-avian reptiles have shown that they have much higher limb bone safety factors than birds and mammals. It has been hypothesized that this difference is related to the difference in posture between upright birds and mammals and sprawling ectotherms; however, limb bone loading data from a wider range of sprawling species are needed in order to determine whether the higher safety factors seen in amphibians and non-avian reptiles are ancestral …
Transforming Special Collections Through Innovative Uses For Libguides, Melanie Griffin, Barbara Lewis
Transforming Special Collections Through Innovative Uses For Libguides, Melanie Griffin, Barbara Lewis
Barbara Lewis
Purpose – This paper seeks to explore the utility of Springshare’s LibGuides platform for special collections repositories and to evaluate the collection guides built by Special & Digital Collections at the University of South Florida in LibGuides.
Design/methodology/approach – This paper explores how academic libraries have used LibGuides previously and provides a case study that suggests new ways for special collections repositories to make the most of the product.
Findings – The simplicity and easy-to-update functionality of LibGuides works well for USF’s Special & Digital Collections collection guides. The flexible API allowed SDC to embed digital content, enable user comments, …
Special Collections And The New Web: Using Libguides To Provide Meaningful Access, Barbara Lewis, Melanie Griffin
Special Collections And The New Web: Using Libguides To Provide Meaningful Access, Barbara Lewis, Melanie Griffin
Barbara Lewis
Librarians have long struggled to find user-friendly mediums to provide meaningful information to patrons; using bibliographies, pathfinders, and subject guides with varying degrees of success. Content management systems, such as Springshare’s LibGuides, have recently been developed to facilitate the creation of online subject guides. Special Collections units also struggle with this issue. This article examines how special collections are presented on the Web, the use of LibGuides for special collections, and how the use of LibGuides is facilitating the goal to provide information in a meaningful way by Special & Digital Collections at the University of South Florida Tampa Library.

Inalienable Possessions And Flyin' West: African American Women In The Pioneer West, Justin Hosbey
Inalienable Possessions And Flyin' West: African American Women In The Pioneer West, Justin Hosbey
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Nicodemus, Kansas is one of the few remaining settlements founded by African American former slaves in the post-Civil War period of American history. Designated by the National Park Service as a National Historic Site in 1996, Nicodemus has secured its role as a place deemed important to the history of America. For this project, I worked as an intern for the Nicodemus Historical Society, under the direction of Angela Bates. This local heritage preservation agency manages archival and genealogical records important to Nicodemus descendants, and exhibits several of the community's cultural and material artifacts for the public. I was specifically …

The Autonomous Art Of Antarctica, Studio At 620, Paul Suprenand
Postcard Collection
The Studio@620 welcomes Paul Suprenand and The Autonomous Art of Antarctica. Antarctica is a land of environmental extremes that is owned by no one… living largely in Nature’s own autonomy. The continent is home to an incredible ecosystem with ever-changing borders of land and ice, setting the canvas for natural artistic opportunities to abound, and with imagery never to be seen the same way again. To enjoy a piece of Antarctica you are invited to join us for a walk among the artistry of Paul Suprenand’s landscape and animal imagery.
