The Comparative Cardio-Inhibitory Effects Of Certain Cyclohexanol And Cyclohexylamine Derivatives, David Charles Kosegarten
The Comparative Cardio-Inhibitory Effects Of Certain Cyclohexanol And Cyclohexylamine Derivatives, David Charles Kosegarten
Open Access Master's Theses
Derivatives of cyclohexanol and cyclohexylamine were pharmacologically screened for cardioplegic effects on intact anesthetized rats, and isolated guinea pig hearts. Evaluation of potency was based on the ability to depress rat carotid blood pressure, and to produce cardiac arrest in the isolated guinea pig heart. As a group, the non-ethynyl cyclohexanol derivatives were more potent in producing a hypotensive response, than were the derivatives of cyclohexylamine. trans-2-o-Tolyl-cis-l, 4-cyclohexanediol and trans-2-o-tolyl-trans-l, 5-cyclohexanediol were equally effective and the most active. trans-2-(p-Chlorophenyl)-N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine was the least active, and the only compound to produce a pressor response. Conversely, the cyclohexylamines were more potent cardioplegic …

The Effects Of High Fat Diets On Laying Hens, Susana Ngwenyi Allo
Open Access Master's Theses
The objectives of this study were: (1) To determine the effects of feeding a corn-soybean type diet containing 25.0 percent stabilized yellow grease to Single Comb White Leghorn hens. (2) To determine the effects of such a diet when the protein, total vitamin and mineral contents of the diet were varied. In a six month study, four groups of 144 hens each were fed four experimental diets. Diet 1 represented a normal corn-soybean type laying mash. Diets 2, 3 and 4 each contained 25.0 percent stabilized yellow grease but varied in their protein, total vitamin and mineral contents. The experimental …

Inhibition Of Acetylcholinesterase By Copper Chelates, Ernest Mario
Open Access Dissertations
As part of a study to investigate metal chelates as possible inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase, copper chelates of 1 ,3 diaminopropanol-2, 1, 3 diaminopropane, and hydroxy-1-proline are examined. Since the chelate solutions contain mixtures of species in equilibrium, it is necessary to calculate the concentrations of pertinent species under experimental conditions. Equations are derived which can be used to calculate the concentrations of individual species in an equilibrium mixture of ligand and copper under fixed conditions of concentration and pH with the aid of an IBM 1410 computer. Initial measurements of reaction velocity of enzyme-substrate breakdown to enzyme plus acid products, …

Turfgrass Response To Levels Of Arsenate And Phosphate In The Soil, Ronald Brooks Ames
Turfgrass Response To Levels Of Arsenate And Phosphate In The Soil, Ronald Brooks Ames
Open Access Master's Theses
This thesis covers field, greenhouse and laboratory studies that were conducted to determine the effect of various soil phosphorus levels on the herbicidal properties of calcium and copper arsenates. These studies were conducted during 1961 and 1962.
The greenhouse study involved work with annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) and crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum Schreb.) grown on two soil types. Levels of soil phosphorus were adjusted to low, medium and high for each soil type and copper and calcium arsenates each at two rates were added to each soil. It was found that the low rate of calcium arsenate was as effective …

The Interrelationships Between Chronic Restraint Stress And Reserpine Sedation: Effects On Pituitary-Adrenal Function And Brain Serotonin And Norepinephrine Levels In Male Albino Rats, John Adam Rosecrans
Open Access Dissertations
The General Adaptation Syndrome (G.A.S.) was characterized for chronic forced restraint stress in normal and reserpinized (1 mg/kg, I.P.) male albino rats. This was accomplished by analyzing the interrelationships among brain neurohumoral levels (serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE)), serum corticosterone (KS) levels, and various organ weights such as thymus, testes, pituitaries, and adrenals.
Reserpine was observed to prevent normal rats from adapting to this stress (mortality rate was 50%) possibly via inanition. It was suggested that the overall non-adaptive effects produced could ultimately be due to the ability of reserpine to induce a chemical sympathectomy. Thus, by depleting the A.N.S. …
