Resurrecting The Also-Rans: Image Repair Debate Strategies Of Democrats Who Voted To Authorize The War In Iraq, Corey B. Davis, Mark J. Glantz

Iowa Journal of Communication

Joseph Biden, Chris Dodd, John Edwards, and Hillary Clinton were unique among 2007-2008 Democratic presidential candidates. They voted October 11, 2002 to authorize U.S. military use in Iraq and, with the exception of Edwards, voted on October 17, 2003 to authorize supplemental appropriations for the war. These votes presented an image problem for the candidates with Democratic primary voters who strongly opposed the war and favored its prompt end. Aside from Clinton, these candidates faded early in the contest. The current study analyzed attempts by Biden, Dodd and Edwards to repair, with voters, their respective images. Edwards' use of mortification …

The purpose of this research is to find that context and determine how musical artists can best bridge the gap between themselves and their fans in the social media heavy 21st century. The goal is to find what expectations fans have for the artists they follow on social media and how the …

Determinants Of College Hockey Attendance, Max Martino Jan 2014

Determinants Of College Hockey Attendance, Max Martino

Honors Program Theses

The determinants of Division I men’s college hockey attendance are examined. Data includes 58 schools over the past 10 years. Based on previous studies of sports attendance potential determinants include a team’s success in current and past seasons, demographic variables such as enrollment and the percentage of students who are women, and potential competition from other sports. Higher winning percentages and winning the NCAA championship in the previous season increased attendance, while having a basketball team in the AP Top 25 reduced attendance. There is some evidence that being within 75 miles of an NHL team reduced attendance, while the …

What Variables Explain Differences In Coaching Salaries For Division I Women's Sports?, Tyler Lange Jan 2014

What Variables Explain Differences In Coaching Salaries For Division I Women's Sports?, Tyler Lange

Honors Program Theses

This paper examines the possibility of discrimination based on gender and/or race in NCAA Division-I coaching. High-profile male coaches earn higher salaries than female coaches, which could reflect labor-market discrimination. This paper investigates the determinants of coaches’ compensation. Because the number of female coaches in men’s sports is trivial, this study is limited to women’s sports. Using salary data from the 2012 fiscal year for public universities in three Division-I conferences – Missouri Valley, Big 10, and Big 12 – I look at a variety of revenue and non-revenue generating women’s sports. I model head coaches’ annual salaries as the …

Public Accounting Recruiting: Implications Of The Antecedents And Consequences Of Organizational Identity On Hiring, Ariana Marie Aquilani

Honors Program Theses

Unfortunately, the industry of public accounting has been plagued with a high turnover rate. Recent studies show that around fifteen percent of staff leave the industry each year with a large portion of these professionals only having spent between three and five years in the profession (Platt Consulting Group, 2013). This problem leads to a constant demand for new hires in public accounting firms, especially recent college graduates entering the job market. As a result, the recruiting process has become the primary way of attracting these new hires in order to continue to replace staff moving to new positions outside …
