Developing Methods To Assess The Role Of Lumbricus Terrestris On Seed Predation In Prairie Restoration, Jacey R. Meier

Tallgrass prairie used to cover Iowa and much of the midwest, but now only a small percentage of it remains. Many prairie restoration efforts are in place to revitalize Iowa’s former prairie landscape. Native prairie seed that is genetically diverse and regionally appropriate is expensive, and only 5-10% of the seeds planted germinate into seedlings. Ungerminated seed loss can occur many ways, one being due to seed predation. The common earthworm, Lumbricus terrestris, is a seed predator that has been observed to be present at prairie restoration sites by its numerous middens. The goal was to develop methods that would …

It is my hope with this work to shed light on these grave issues facing our student-athletes at UNI, and to more greatly inform community members about the real experiences of this population. Readers should come away with an understanding of why greater action is necessary to help our student-athletes and remedy the disparities our campus is seeing in terms of mental health resource need and acquisition.

For stakeholders and institutional leaders at UNI, I hope this paper may provide a helpful and informed
framework for responding to the issues being presented by our athletics community.

Pandemic Images And Gestalt Theory: Introspective Musings About A Series Of Digital Art-Works, Roy R. Behrens

In this paper, the author shares his thoughts about the precedents, process, and significance of a series of “digital montage” artworks that he originated during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, he talks about the indebtedness of these works to Gestalt theory, and particularly their use of what is sometimes known as “laws of seeing,” “unit-forming factors,” or inherent “grouping tendencies.”

Explaining Differences In One Teacher’S Instruction Across Multiple Tracked Fifth-Grade Classes, Corey Webel, Kimberly A. Conner, Christina Sheffel

In this article, we describe the case of “Keri,” a fifth-grade teacher who had completed an Elementary Mathematics Specialist (EMS) certification program. Drawn from a larger study investigating the knowledge, beliefs, and practices of EMSs, Keri's case was unique in that she was teaching mathematics to four classes in a departmentalized structure, where students were placed into different classes according to perceived mathematics ability. Observations from the larger study revealed that Keri's instructional practices did not align with her reported beliefs and knowledge. Collaboration, Policies, And Programming: Advising Administrators’ Perspectives On Academic Recovery, Pietro Sasso, Shelley Price-Williams, Tiffany Shemwell

Faculty Publications

Colleges and universities use academic recovery programs as one strategy to improve student retention. Relying on interview data with mid-level academic advising administrators who coordinate academic recovery programs, this study describes key elements of those programs and challenges advising administrators face in implementing or managing those elements. Specifically, academic recovery programs rely on campus collaboration, administering policy, and supplemental programming to help students succeed. Administrators cited a lack of institutional support and resources as barriers to successfully implementing or creating collaboration, policies, and programming. We conclude by discussing implications for practice and suggestions for improving academic probation and recovery programs.

Data Sets

The spreadsheet documents data collected in the study described in the manuscript “Wild bee visitors and their association with sown and unsown floral resources in reconstructed pollinator habitats within an agriculture landscape”. Data included in the spreadsheet shows the name of each collected wild bee specimen and the flower species where the bee was collected. Data were used to construct the bee-pollinator network and calculate the network metrics for each study site.
