The Realistic Approach To Tradition And Change In The Novels Of Rabindranath Tagore, Robert C. Granner

Rabindranath Tagore was born in 1861 and died in 1941. Both his life and thought span the epoch of renascent India, and his novels realistically reflect the problems and struggles of the Indian people during the past century. In this thesis Tagore 's development, not so much as a great novelist but as a social commentator and reformer, is discussed. His role as a liberal mediator between the violent reactionary and the vehement traditionalist is a predominant factor in all of his prose writings, and it is from this point of view that each of his novels is examined.

Two Program Processors For The Preparation Of Instructional Materials In Chemistry, Lloyd V. Gayman

The use of inductive or inquiry techniques in the teaching of science has been emphasized. A possible technological aid to the inquiry process is the electronic computer. A review of the literature in this area led to the development of two program processors, one to produce simulated experiments, the other to generate problems for student use.

The first processor, SIM/G, can be used to produce tables or charts. Five sample programs were prepared to illustrate the use of the SIM/G processor. Directions for use of the processor have been given. Documentation has included both a complete verbal explanation and a …

A Study Of Personality Problems And Vocal Nodules In Children, William Lee Glassell

The investigator found several children with vocal nodules in the schools he served. A review of the literature revealed that vocal abuse is the commonly considered etiology of vocal nodules. Vocal abuse did not fit several of the children who tended to be quiet and withdrawn. A further review of the literature was instituted in an attempt to find some feature of commonality between quiet children and noisy children which could explain why quiet children develop vocal nodules. Several authors discussed functional voice disorders as the result of personality problems. Few, however, related their conclusions directly to vocal nodules. The …

Junior high General Music courses vary considerably in regards to the activities and learning experiences which take place-in them. The goals for the classes, teacher backgrounds, and scheduling practices also vary from one school to another. The purpose of this study is to see if there is agreement among selected writers regarding the goals of the junior high General Music course. ·The purpose is also to see if these writers provide guides or directions which can be used by individual teachers when establishing the goals for their classroom situations. The Role Of The Science Supervisor As Perceived By Elementary And Secondary Science Teachers, Thomas Graika

The problem that was considered in the study was whether the role of the science supervisor was perceived differently by secondary and elementary teachers of science.

A fifty-four item questionnaire was developed. The items on the questionnaire consisted of statements of tasks which a science supervisor could do, and the teachers were asked to respond on a scale of opinion if they considered this task a role of the science supervisor.

The sample represented five school systems in Iowa which employ a science supervisor. Questionnaires were sent to 156 secondary science teachers and 153 elementary teachers. Ninety-five of all the …

Five Tie-And-Dye Textile Wall Hangings, Ruth L. Kao

This thesis work consists of five tie-and-dye textile wall hangings. The accompanying thesis statement is an explanation of (1) the aesthetic development of the single-theme designs applied to the wall hangings, (2) the technical involvement of each of the wall hangings, and (3) a personal analysis of each of the tie-and-dye works. Technical knowledge and records of research work done with tie-and-dye are generally lacking and my work is therefore experimental in approach. Occupational Prestige Rankings And Future Occupational Expectations Of Iowa High School Seniors, Jackson Neal Baty

This study is an analysis of occupational prestige ratings of 3,122 Iowa high school seniors belonging to the class of 1970. They represented 90 percent of the seniors attending 21 randomly selected high schools, 18 of which can be categorized as public schools, two of which are parochial (Roman Catholic), and one of which is a university-connected laboratory school. There was one school (less than 250 students), one medium-size school (250-499 students), and one large school (500 or more students) in each of Iowa's seven congressional districts
