A Reflective Practitioner As A Leader Of Learning, Change And Service : A Reflective Essay, Leshane O. Saddler

Graduate Research Papers

Learning must be modeled by all leaders. Learning may not be enough; there must be a love for learning that is modeled to all. As a parent of two elementary students my passion for knowledge is demonstrated on a daily basis. Reading nightly for one to two hours and spending Saturdays at the public library instead of the ball park are two examples that I model for my children. As a leader of learning, the building principal or district administrator, there should be a greater understanding that the teachers that are under your administration; view you as that parent. Incorporating Readings Outside Of The Textbook Into A High School Science Curriculum, Melissa Hesner

Graduate Research Papers

The use of trade books, such as nonfiction and storybooks, is often used in elementary classrooms as instructional tools for learning content. For many reasons. this strategy is neglected at the secondary level where textbooks remain the dominant, if only reading resource for students. The need to incorporate into instruction meaningful reading experiences beyond the textbook is important for developing students' scientific literacy and reading skills. This project explains the introduction of reading resources outside of the textbook, perceived results of the implementation, and selections for future reading in a high school physical science curriculum.

Guess Who's Not Coming To Dinner: A Review Of The Policies And Practices In Three Urban Iowa School Districts To Recruit Teachers From Underrepresented Backgrounds, Willie B. Barney

Although student diversity in public schools has increased at a rapid pace, teacher diversity has not matched the student pace. Four research questions were examined using a qualitative research methodology. Using inquiry techniques, school district personnel participated in individual interviews …

“Out From Gens Romulum Into The Weal-Kin”: Re-Locating Modernist Poetics In David Jones’ AnathéMata And Basil Bunting’S Briggflatts, Lucie Boukalova

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

In the decades following its publication in 1922, T.S. Eliot's Waste Land has become an epitome of the modernist sensibility and situation. This thesis challenges the poem's dominance and dictate over the canon of modernist poetry persisting in the academic discourse and general cultural awareness. Focusing on two post-WWII sequences by Eliot's younger contemporaries, David Jones' s Anathemata (1952) and Basil Bunting's Briggflatts (1966), this study explores alternative models and inspirative sources of the modernist poetic sequence. Through the constant comparison and contrast with Eliot's earlier articulation of the modern historico-cultural circumstance, Jones' and Bunting's specific foci and methods emerge …
