Continuous Manufacturing Performance Improvement: An Investigation Of Overall Equipment Effectiveness As A Valid Shop Floor Performance Evaluation Tool, Jeremy Joseph Fettkether
Continuous Manufacturing Performance Improvement: An Investigation Of Overall Equipment Effectiveness As A Valid Shop Floor Performance Evaluation Tool, Jeremy Joseph Fettkether
Graduate Research Papers
As part of a Lean Manufacturing journey, much research looks at Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) elements and how they can be utilized individually and as a system working together. These elements include availability, performance, and quality. Availability can be addressed as part of a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program. Performance is examined through understanding the impact of cycle time, standards, set-up reduction, and productivity of employees. The Quality element is examined through scrap factors and waste due to producing non-conforming material. Developing a thorough Quality plan incorporating systems like Total Quality Management helps create structure for measurement and evaluation.

Six Sigma Research Project: Loss Of Hydraulic Fixture Pressure, Tyler Neigum
Graduate Research Papers
The purpose of this research is to implement a solution to hydraulic fixtures losing pressure. The Six Sigma approach was followed to determine the root cause, and then a solution was implemented. The root cause was determined to be contamination entering the system causing the hydraulic components to fail. An automated pneumatic blow off system was implemented into the system to remove the contamination from the point of entry. This new system completely eliminated the contamination and in tum prevented the hydraulic fixtures from failing and losing pressure.

A Selective Annotated List Of Reading Promotion Events Recommended For Elementary Students, Nicole Nadine Guldager
A Selective Annotated List Of Reading Promotion Events Recommended For Elementary Students, Nicole Nadine Guldager
Graduate Research Papers
Students who are not afforded with the opportunity to read for pleasure often become students who choose not to read once the required reward-based reading system is removed (Pavonetti et al., 2002). Although anecdotal ideas for reading promotion are often shared in email, blogs, and journals, teacher librarians would benefit from a clear annotated list of reading promotion events designed to help them select a wide variety of events to create a planned sequence of events throughout the school year to best meet a variety of school and community needs.
The research based project is an annotated list of 31 …
Supporting Reading Curriculum Without Restricting Access To Library Materials: Resources For Teacher Librarians, Tricia Carty
Supporting Reading Curriculum Without Restricting Access To Library Materials: Resources For Teacher Librarians, Tricia Carty
Graduate Research Papers
External pressure upon teacher librarians to arrange library book collections by level and to limit students’ choices to books within their level is complex due to the interwoven but sometimes conflicting demands of providing quality reading instruction, resources for independent reading, and relevant readers’ advisory. The school library and its teacher librarian are positioned squarely in the middle of this dynamic topic. The purpose of this study was to identify the strategies and policies teacher librarians use to support reading instruction without restricting students’ access to library materials. This study revealed that through the use of focused instruction, adaptable policies, …

Word Study And Its Importance To Reading And Writing In The Primary Classroom, Korie Frazier
Graduate Research Papers
The Words Their Way Spelling program was used to evaluate student progress in spelling with direct instruction versus traditional spelling programs. Teachers were asked to volunteer to take the Words Their Way Course, implement the Words Their Way Spelling Program in their classrooms, and allow their data to be used in the decision making process for the district curriculum office. Students began spelling more words correctly in their independent writing, and were therefore able to use what they knew about words to spell unknown words with similar spelling patterns.

A New Vision For A 6-12 Library Science Curriculum, Jacqueline Leigh Seidl
A New Vision For A 6-12 Library Science Curriculum, Jacqueline Leigh Seidl
Graduate Research Papers
The current perception of the teacher librarian's role in our Central Iowa school district is quite different than the role suggested in the professional research. Students leaving high school do not have the inquiry and evaluation skills expected at the postsecondary level (Donham, 2014). Students spend their free time using technology, but not for academic or voluntary reading (Igbokwe & Obidike, 2012). It is evident that the Common Core's focus on information inquiry and literacy, technology use, and pleasure reading are all facets of the teacher librarian's desired curriculum, but creating a curriculum where the three complement each other rather …

Labeling Of Religious Non-Believers: The Effect Of The "Atheist" Title On Moral Judgments About Non-Theists, Brock C. Rozich
Labeling Of Religious Non-Believers: The Effect Of The "Atheist" Title On Moral Judgments About Non-Theists, Brock C. Rozich
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Prior research indicates that how concepts are described impacts our beliefs about the subject itself. For example, when the term “welfare” (instead of “help for the poor”) is used to ask people whether assistance should be increased in times of economic hardship, support is lower (Smith, 1987). My research question centers on whether or not this effect would carry over to the area of religion and the use of the terms “atheist” or “those with no religious beliefs.” Participants in the current studies were presented with a vignette about a student who was labeled as an atheist, as having no …

After-School Success: Associations Between Youth Participants And Youth Outcomes, Dana Miller
After-School Success: Associations Between Youth Participants And Youth Outcomes, Dana Miller
Graduate Research Papers
After-school programs (ASPs) are becoming more and more popular among children and their parents, with an abundance of children lacking access to ASPs. Participation in ASPs has been proven to positively impact participants. The positive impacts of ASPs include higher grades, less behavioral problems, and healthy youth development. After-school programs that provide a structural environment, influential leaders, goals, and evaluation of the program are characteristically proven to be more successful than programs who do not have these characteristics. Funding of ASPs can come from various sources and can be classified into one of three sectors; private for-profit, non-profit, and public.

Mindfulness In The Classroom: Cultivating Peace From Within, Maya Vandriel
Honors Program Theses
Teachers are placed with the difficult task of transferring knowledge to the next generation of leaders. This knowledge transfer can be measured in various ways. What cannot be easily quantified is the impact of the life skills taught to accomplish this handoff of reading, writing and math skills. Often times, teachers are the role model of how a student can cope with life inside and outside of the classroom. Teaching mindfulness in the classroom is a powerful method that shows students how to self-regulate emotions in order to cope with whatever life brings them. These life skills are essential for …
