Annual Graduate Student Symposium

In this presentation, I explore the roles and responsibilities of paraprofessionals within an inclusive classroom from three different stakeholder perspectives: 1) the general education teacher, 2) the special education teacher, and 3) three paraprofessionals. This study was carried out in a 4th grade general education classroom in the Midwest school district. Qualitative research design was used for the purpose of data collection.

During my internship, I was the project manager for the Child Sponsorship Wall at Orchard Hill Church’s Cedar Falls Campus. This wall display was designed and built by myself and the help of various Orchard Hill staff. The purpose of the wall was to promote child sponsorship at Orchard’s two international nonprofit partners: United Christians International in Caiman, Haiti, and at Food for the Hungry in Mozambique, Africa. There were a total of 25 new sponsorships because of the Child Sponsorship Wall, and there were countless visitors and conversations at the wall about Child Sponsorship that helped plant the seed …

Factors Influencing College Choice: A Study Of Enrollment Decisions At A Regional Comprehensive University, Trevor Draisey

Major Themes in Economics

This research uses a linear probability model to analyze the enrollment decisions of applicants to Sycamore U and identify factors that affect the likelihood of 1 enrolling. The results of this regression indicate that Sycamore U faces challenges in enrolling minority students, as do many similar institutions, but that aspiring teachers and students with a family connection to Sycamore U are more likely to enroll. Students also appear to react strongly to merit-based financial aid and, to a lesser extent, need-based financial aid offerings from Sycamore U.

In a review of the top surveys on cheating in college by Donald McCabe and others from the last several decades, James Lang (2013) noted overall incidence rates in the range of 65% to 82%. Keeping in mind that these are based on self-report data, which rely on student honesty in the reporting, accurate memories, and a clear understanding of what constitutes cheating, these results suggest that academic integrity continues to be a challenging and yet critical issue for higher education. After graduation, research shows that there is a high correlation (66% for undergraduates, 61% for graduate students) between cheating …
