As a Vietnam veteran film director, Oliver Stone has made several controversial films on the Vietnam War and the 1950s. Among his filmography, we can categorize Platoon (1986), Born on the Fourth of July (1989), and Heaven and Earth (1993)-Stone's so called Vietnam Trilogy-as the most direct depictions of the war and its aftermath, whereas The Doors (1991), JFK (1991), and Nixon (1995) examine the broader political and cultural dimension of the war and the era. Legends began to surface about Gilgamesh some two hundred years after he reigned as King of Uruk. Of Gilgamesh little is known except what was found in the Sumerian King's List, five or six poems, and in the Gilgamesh Epic itself. The epic has raised scholarly interest among those who would know more about this ancient and enigmatic character. The study developed out of a desire to explore the story in greater detail, and out of a curiosity as to how one would teach a class on the subject.I divided the study into three parts. When Pope Gregory the Great sent St. Augustine to England in 596, Christianity was formally reintroduced into England after nearly two hundred years of isolation due to the Anglo-Saxon invasions. The success or failure of the mission hinged on the ability of those sent to establish a relationship with the provincial rulers. As Christianity took hold throughout the seventh century, the inchoate relationship between the rulers and Church matured within the nucleus of two different world views. The 3360th Quartermaster Truck Company, originally Company D of the 2639th Quartermaster Truck Battalion, was created in 1942 by drawing troops and officers from anti-aircraft units stationed in North Africa, to meet an emergency need for highway transportation to support the Allied advance East across North Africa. The reassigned troops and officers received no training in their new duties, but were instead immediately dispatched to the front with vital supplies. The company continued operations through North Africa, and on into Sicily and Italy. While in Italy, Elmer H. Puchta, previously assigned to the company as a platoon commander, took command. …

Impact Of The 1997 Red River Valley Flood On Marital Relationships, Karen M. Davis

Despite the gains in disaster research on families, there is little research on the impact of disasters on marital relationships. This study addresses this under- researched area through the examination of the effects of the 1997 Red River Valley Flood on marital relationships.

Data was collected through in-depth interviews with ten heterosexual married couples. The results indicate that the 1997 Red River Valley Flood did have an impact on marital relationships. However, the impact of the flood appeared to be mediated by the state of the couples' relationships prior to the flood. Couples who reported strong relationships prior to the …

Four Girls Respond To Young Adult Horror Fiction, Betty Silliman

This qualitative study provides insight into the separate reading experience of four adolescent girls as each engaged in the reading and discussion of a popular, self-selected young adult horror novel. The analysis and interpretation of data focused on the appeal of texts and the sociological implications of the reading experience. While questions regarding the appeal of young adult horror fiction grew from work with adolescent female horror readers, the social dimension of the inquiry stemmed from concerns of critical literacy theorists with regard to the ideological content of texts and its potential to shape readers into accepting dominant views.

The Relationship Between Observation And Total Aircraft And Simulator Training Times In Aviation Instruction, Scott P. Johnson

This study takes an initial examination of the paired student flight training methodology used by the Aviation Department of the University of North Dakota's Center for Aerospace Sciences from the standpoint of observational learning. An analysis was performed on the relationship between observation time and total flight and simulator time logged by students in the completion of particular flight courses. The study involved student flight records from four flight courses ranging from primary to advanced pilot training, over a time period from the Fall of 1994 to the Spring of 1996.

Very little has been written about the political career of Matthew Lyon, who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1796 to 1800. Only a few biographies of his life have been written, which has contributed to the general lack of knowledge concerning his political affairs. The purpose of this thesis, then, is to identify Matthew Lyon the man, as well as his time in history, the Federalist Era. This is the translation of Gunter Eich's Traume (Dreams), five radio plays, a series of fictive dreams. The individual dreams are framed and linked by narrative poems. I tried to keep Eich's style, including any proper names of the characters.

The Introduction provides a brief biography of Gunter Eich and an overview of the dreams. A short interpretation of Eich's theme(s) in the individual dreams follows the translation.

The problem of this study was to determine the entry level knowledge and skills required of technicians by the composite materials industry. The objectives of this study were to determine: (a) cognitive knowledge, (b) psychomotor skills, and (c) affective skills of composite technicians entering the composite materials industry.

This study used an analytical survey method and was implemented using an interview process. The survey consisted of fifty statements that pertained to cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills, and affective skills. Data generated from the survey were collected using a Likert scale.

The climate of a college or university had been identified as a critical factor in the success and/or failure of minority students. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify the campus racial climate as perceived by American Indian students attending the University of North Dakota (UND) at Grand Forks, North Dakota. American Indian students have been present on the UND campus since 1934. Over the years, their numbers have steadily increased, but their attrition rate has remained high.
