Hepatitis C Treatment For Substance Users In North Dakota, Janae Arnold
Hepatitis C Treatment For Substance Users In North Dakota, Janae Arnold
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
In the 1960’s, the hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemic began mainly through the transmission of blood transfusions. By the time screening was implemented, millions had already become infected worldwide. After a decade of declining infection rates, a second wave started in the midst of the opioid epidemic in 2010. Prior to 2014 and the application of curative direct-acting antivirals, treatment was expensive, had low efficacy, many side effects, and long treatment durations. Advances in medicine have allowed for HCV elimination with shorter treatment durations, less side effects, and higher treatment rates. Unfortunately, treatment is not offered to all HCV patients …
The Impact Of Continuous Glucose Monitoring In The Management Of Type Ii Diabetes, Benjamin Graf
The Impact Of Continuous Glucose Monitoring In The Management Of Type Ii Diabetes, Benjamin Graf
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), approximately 36 million Americans have a diagnosis of type II diabetes (T2D). Among these patients with T2D, nearly forty percent have glycated hemoglobin A1c (Hgb A1c) values above the target goal of 7%. Many patients with T2D utilize self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG) systems to monitor day-to-day fluctuations in blood glucose values. However, SMBG systems can be cumbersome and may result in lower patient compliance. With many patients struggling to achieve their target Hgb A1c, methods to improve glycemic control are needed to prevent long-term diabetes-related complications. This literature review aims to investigate the …
The Role Of Ketamine In The Management Of Chronic Pain, Hugh W. Cline Iii
The Role Of Ketamine In The Management Of Chronic Pain, Hugh W. Cline Iii
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
Chronic pain diagnoses are on the rise amongst people within the United States and thought to be an epidemic. It is estimated to affect millions of patients who have suffered trauma, injury, or complications from surgical procedures. The treatment of chronic pain, defined as pain lasting longer than 3 months, can be complicated. There are no definitive treatment options that have garnered a consensus among medical professionals. Treatment usually involves several medical specialties and pharmacological options. Reliance on the use of multiple pharmacological options can cause patients increased hospitalizations, and a reliance on opioids can potentially cause other illnesses due …
Breast Conserving Therapy Vs Mastectomy In Treatment Of Early Breast Cancer Patients. Does Brca1/Brca2 Status Change Treatment Recommendations?, Kylie Engebretson
Breast Conserving Therapy Vs Mastectomy In Treatment Of Early Breast Cancer Patients. Does Brca1/Brca2 Status Change Treatment Recommendations?, Kylie Engebretson
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
In the United States, breast cancer is the second most common cancer, represents 30% of total cancer cases and 14% of deaths in the United States in 2019. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are genetic mutations that increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer by 57% and 49%, respectfully. Several surgical options are available for those with newly diagnosed early-stage breast cancer. The purpose of this systemic literature review is to evaluation the safety and efficacy of breast conserving therapy versus mastectomy for surgical intervention of early-stage breast cancer patients and evaluate if possessing a BRCA positive mutation changes the recommendation for …
Real Memories For False Events: An Examination Of Individual Characteristics That Predict Flashbulb Memories For Real And Fictitious Mass Shootings, Richard Belz
Theses and Dissertations
Multiple studies have examined flashbulb memories (FBM) for various events, but few studies have evaluated these memories within the context of mass shootings. The current investigation examined adult participants’ FBMs for both real and fictitious mass shootings collected in an online survey of 607 participants in the United States. ANOVA, Chi-Square, and regression analyses were used to analyze survey data to examine participant characteristics associated with FBMs for these events. More than 40% of participants had one or more FBMs for real mass shootings. Of note, more than 20% of participants had one or more FBMs for shootings that never …

Interventions Pertinent To Children Of Incarcerated Parents, Adam K. Matz, Roni Mayzer, Mandy Herberholz
Interventions Pertinent To Children Of Incarcerated Parents, Adam K. Matz, Roni Mayzer, Mandy Herberholz
Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
One in 12 children will have a parent incarcerated at some point in their lifetime, with a staggering rate of one in four for African American children (Wildeman et al., 2018). Though the incarcerated populations have been in decline across the United States in the past decade (Carson, 2020), its impact still dwarfs that of most other countries (Coyle et al., 2016). The long-term residual consequences of the country’s imprisonment binge are likely to burden later generations through a myriad of social and economic disadvantages that extend through the children of today’s prisoners. Consequences may manifest in terms of social …

Social Work Faculty Publications
Despite the availability of COVID-19 vaccines, the pandemic’s persistence and recent spikes in cases have heightened the need for the promotion of protective behaviors notably, the continued use of face coverings (or ‘masks’ in the common parlance for COVID-related face coverings). Effective messaging on mask use is essential to more fully resonate with individuals and their shared communities. Studies covering rural or mostly-urban regions in the U.S. are sparse. Accordingly, an interdisciplinary team of social work and public health researchers explored mask wearing behaviors in a small, urban metro community consisting of two cities spanning North Dakota and Minnesota that …

Effective Occupational Therapy Interventions For Reducing Parental Stress In The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Ann Landreville, Annah Greenmyer, Makayla Murden
Critically Appraised Topics
John et al.’s (2018) study found that over half of the mothers in the NICU suffer from moderate to severe anxiety. This anxiety negatively impacts parents’ abilities to engage in the occupation of caring for their child, which can have long-term consequences. Currently, there is a lack of research on occupational therapy-specific interventions that focus on reducing parental stress in the NICU setting. The purpose of this critically appraised topic (CAT) is to discover which stress-reducing occupational therapy interventions have a positive impact on the abilities of parents to successfully care for their infants in the NICU.

An Examination Of The Effects Of Body Mapping Instruction On Singers’ Static Standing Posture And Posture While Singing, Amanda Moreno
An Examination Of The Effects Of Body Mapping Instruction On Singers’ Static Standing Posture And Posture While Singing, Amanda Moreno
Theses and Dissertations
Physical posture is one of the fundamental aspects of vocal technique, and voice pedagogues suggest that effective alignment is necessary for healthy vocal production. Body Mapping (BMG) is a somatic method that focuses on the understanding and correction of errors in a person’s body map to facilitate effective movement for musical activity. Because this method has balance, physical alignment, and posture as foundational, it may be an effective way to begin to instruct students. This study investigated whether the use of the BMG method, which teaches posture through movement, scientific pictures, and anatomical models, would result in a significant difference …
Greek Life Membership As A Predictor Of Exercise Dependency, Taylor Novak Nygaard
Greek Life Membership As A Predictor Of Exercise Dependency, Taylor Novak Nygaard
Theses and Dissertations
Exercise is often regarded as a staple of a healthy lifestyle. Working out in excess, though, can easily become detrimental to an individual’s mental and physical wellbeing. Physical activity that is carried out in a compulsive and regimented manner, even when it may interfere with daily life or physical health, is referred to as exercise dependency. While not it’s own mental disorder, it has often been described as a secondary disorder in tandem with an eating disorder, and can be identified using the same criteria as one would use to diagnose Substance Use Disorder. The paradoxical nature of an addiction …
Phylogenetic Relationships Of Noctuoid Moths With An Examination Of Complex Characteristics, Melissa Sisson
Phylogenetic Relationships Of Noctuoid Moths With An Examination Of Complex Characteristics, Melissa Sisson
Theses and Dissertations
The tribe Noctuini comprise over 520 species; many are economically important species that impact human agriculture. Despite their diversity and relevance, relationships of the Noctuini have been difficult to resolve. There are extensive morphological revisions of these taxa (e.g., Agrotis, Euxoa); however, there are no studies that focus exclusively on the phylogenetic relationships of the Noctuini. Currently, the Noctuini are separated into two subtribes, the Agrotina and Noctuina, which each are further subdivided into two subgenera. In this study, we tested previous classification schemes using three loci. We sampled three outgroup taxa and 54 noctuine species that represent the majority …
The Key Actions Of School Leaders That Contribute To Effective Implementation Of Restorative Practice, Amy L. Starzecki
The Key Actions Of School Leaders That Contribute To Effective Implementation Of Restorative Practice, Amy L. Starzecki
Theses and Dissertations
A growing number of students are faced with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs that translate into a variety of problem behaviors in schools. These behaviors often result in suspension or expulsion. Exclusionary discipline practices such as suspension and expulsion negatively impact student outcomes and achievement. Additionally, these practices are often disproportionately applied to specific student populations (i.e., students of color, students with disabilities, and boys). Schools across the United States are looking for alternatives to exclusionary discipline practices that remove students from classroom instruction. Restorative practice can be an alternative to traditional punitive discipline approaches by promoting strong interpersonal …
Voice Of The Voiceless: Alumni Of A Rural North Dakota School Respond To Traditional Urban Solutions For Rural Education, Thomas Warman
Voice Of The Voiceless: Alumni Of A Rural North Dakota School Respond To Traditional Urban Solutions For Rural Education, Thomas Warman
Theses and Dissertations
Equitable school district funding is a constant challenge for state legislatures. When budgets must be trimmed, the panacea for state legislatures has traditionally been approached strictly through the lens of economic efficiency. Since small rural schools typically have a greater per pupil cost, they are often forced into consolidating with nearby districts based on size alone. This research looked at how North Dakota should approach any changes to N.D. Cent. Code § 15.1-12 (n.d.), dealing with mandatory consolidation. Two theoretical frameworks were used in this research. The first, isomorphism, examined definitions of proper school district size and have been defined …

Participants were asked to read a mock trial transcript that included testimony of a victim and an expert and respond to questions. Results indicated that gender of the victim was oftentimes more influential on mock jurors’ perceptions than gender of the expert. For instance, the female victim was perceived as less blameworthy than the male victim regardless of expert gender. Furthermore, both the male and female expert were viewed as more …
Non-Binary Gender Identity Development: A Qualitative Study, Trevor Waagen
Non-Binary Gender Identity Development: A Qualitative Study, Trevor Waagen
Theses and Dissertations
Gender identity development models in psychology for transgender individuals have typically combined the experiences of binary transgender and non-binary transgender people into the same group. However, differences may exist between the two communities. Therefore, the present study sought to explore the lived experiences of non-binary adults and their gender identity development process. Through the lens of grounded theory (Charmaz, 2014), semi-structured, qualitative interviews were conducted with 10 non-binary participants to collect rich data on their gender identity development process. Transcriptions were coded and reviewed to develop themes and categories. The themes included: Connection and relationships, intersectionality and culture, gender in …
The Z Factor: Generation Z And The Perspectives Of Recruitment Professionals On Sustaining Small Private Liberal Arts Institutions During A Decade Of Expected Decline In Higher Education Enrollment, Shawn Adkins
Theses and Dissertations
The increased competitive nature of higher education institutions has caused many small private liberal arts colleges/universities to struggle economically. The cost of keeping such institutions viable is high. Many institutions have had to raise tuitions rates, which resulted in decreased enrollment numbers. As a result, many institutions have been struggling; some even closing. The influences and interferences of college choice among current college-aged students (known as Generation Z) were reviewed with recruitment professionals from a handful of such institutions for this qualitative, constructivist grounded theory study. Data was collected by reviewing relevant research literature and conducting interviews with participants from …
The Influence Of Attachment Security Priming On Relationship Social Comparison Interpretations, Alex James Holte
The Influence Of Attachment Security Priming On Relationship Social Comparison Interpretations, Alex James Holte
Theses and Dissertations
Relationship social comparisons occur when an individual compares their relationship to another. These comparisons are unavoidable and the interpretation of them can influence how an individual feels about their relationship. Dispositional attachment style may influence how these comparisons are interpreted. Furthermore, research has shown individuals can be temporarily primed for specific attachment styles which results in cognitions and behaviors consistent with that attachment style. The current study examined the efficacy of priming attachment security on how an individual interprets relationship social comparison interpretations (RSCIs) and relationship satisfaction. A final sample of 505 individuals in a dating relationship were recruited from …
