Participant Acceptability Of Questionnaires Impacts Sexual Victimization Prevalence Rates, Raeann E. Anderson, Erica L. Goodman, Emily M. Carstens Namie
Psychology Faculty Publications
Obtaining accurate prevalence rates of sexual violence is made difficult by discrepancies in self-report questionnaires. Thus, the current study sought to explore participants’ perceptions of acceptability (i.e., perceived difficulty and preference) as a potential mechanism of discrepancy between different questionnaires. Participants were 673 college students who completed two frequently used sexual victimization questionnaires, the Sexual Experiences Survey-Short Form Victimization (SES-SFV) and the Post-Refusal Sexual Persistence Scales-Victimization (PRSPS-V). Participants then answered questions about each measure’s perceived difficulty and their preference between the two. Participants found the PRSPS-V easier to understand and preferred it 2.5 to 1 over the SES-SFV. Preference was …
Spectral Characterization Of Fouled Railroad Ballast Using Hyperspectral Imaging, Eberechi Ichi, Sattar Dorafshan
Spectral Characterization Of Fouled Railroad Ballast Using Hyperspectral Imaging, Eberechi Ichi, Sattar Dorafshan
Civil Engineering Faculty Publications
The presence of fouling contamination in railroad ballast is a growing concern that causes deterioration, poor drainage functionality, and early failure of railroad components. Evaluation and characterization of fouled ballast are crucial for determining and monitoring fouling content (FC) and moisture content (MC) in ballast. However, human inspection, destructive testing, filed sampling, and most available nondestructive evaluation methods (NDE) for inspection purposes pose safety risks, undermine the stability of the railroad substructure, or provide limited information about the condition of the ballast. This study presents the results of the spectral characterization of laboratory ballast samples using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) sensor. …

Workload Assessment For Community Corrections Staffing For The Washington Department Of Corrections, Nathan Lowe, Adam K. Matz, Benjamin Korelitz, Angela Greene, Kathryb Hogan
Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
About 20 years ago, the Washington State Department of Corrections (WADOC) participated in two workload evaluations with the aim of identifying key tasks associated with community corrections work and the time to complete such tasks, and utilized these data to inform the amount of resources needed to carry out the responsibilities of the Community Corrections Division (CCD). Those evaluations set a precedent for how WADOC made informed decisions that shaped practice and policy for staffing. Then, in the fall of 2021, WADOC contracted with Westat, Inc. to conduct an updated, full-scale workload assessment of staff members who carry out the …
Investigation Of Cyclic Gaseous Solvent Injection For Enhanced Oil Recovery In Unconventional Formations, Samuel Asante Afari
Investigation Of Cyclic Gaseous Solvent Injection For Enhanced Oil Recovery In Unconventional Formations, Samuel Asante Afari
Theses and Dissertations
Unconventional resources have been known to hold vast quantities of hydrocarbons. However, exploiting the oil and gas they hold was previously challenging due to their low permeabilities. Recent advances in horizontal well drilling and hydraulic fracturing have enabled oil and gas production from these reservoirs, leading to significant increases in energy supply to meet the growing energy demand. However, despite the relative technological success, considerable obstacles persist; oil production from unconventional wells often declines by more than 20% of their initial production rate within the first two years, leaving significant volumes of residual oil trapped in the formations. This overarching …

Evaluation Of Hybrid Prediction Models For Accurate Rate Of Penetration (Rop) Prediction In Drilling Operations, Abdelhakim Khouissat, Mohamed Riad Youcefi, Ghoulem Ifrene, Doina Irofti
Petroleum Engineering Posters and Presentations
The precise prediction of the rate of penetration (ROP) is of utmost importance for optimizing drilling operations and minimizing costs while increasing efficiency. However, the complex and nonlinear nature of the drilling process can pose significant challenges in achieving accurate ROP predictions. To address this challenge, multiple hybrid prediction models have been developed, and their accuracy in ROP prediction has been compared.
To accomplish this objective, we created three different hybrid models, including Artificial Neural Network – Genetic Algorithm (ANN-GA), Artificial Neural Network-Particle Swarm Optimization (ANN-PSO), and Support Vector Regression (SVR) to estimate ROP. These models were trained and tested …

Prior research has rarely focused on sexual motives (e.g., motives for having sex) when studying sexual violence perpetration prevention. The current study examined the role of sexual motives alongside other risk factors like alcohol expectancies in predicting sexual violence. We analyzed data from 205 male college students; 36% reported sexual perpetration of some type. Participants completed a series of questionnaires in a randomized order, including: measures of prior sexual perpetration, sexual motives, rape myth acceptance, alcohol expectancies, and a measure of social desirability. Data were analyzed using a series of T-tests and logistic regressions. With one exception (coping motives), all …

Machine Learning Algorithms For Predicting Liquid Loading In Gas Wells, Nassim Bouabdallah, Abdeldjalil Latrach, Aimene Aihar, Adesina Fadairo
Petroleum Engineering Posters and Presentations
Liquid loading is a term used to describe the situation where the gas produced from a well is unable to carry the liquid that is also produced along with it (Khetib et al., 2022). As a result, the liquid starts to accumulate in the wellbore. This accumulation of liquid can cause a decrease in gas production and in severe cases, it may even lead to a complete stoppage of production (Khetib et al., 2022, 2023) . The phenomenon of liquid loading in gas wells occurs when the critical gas velocity is less than a certain value, leading to a decrease …

Fractured reservoir systems play a critical role in the efficient management of hydrocarbon resources, CO2 storage, and geothermal energy extraction. Understanding the behavior and characteristics of these systems is essential for optimizing recovery, reducing carbon footprint, and increasing efficiency. However, fractures within reservoir systems create complex geometries and can make fluid flow behavior complex and difficult to predict. Replicating these complex geometries in the laboratory has been challenging, but advancements in 3D printing technology have made it possible to create accurate models of rough-walled fracture geometries. In this study, the impact of geometric characteristics on fluid flow behavior in connected …

The evolving membrane technology integrated with machine learning (ML) algorithms can significantly advance the novel membrane material design and fabrication. Although several studies have reported ML-based assistance in membrane development, none of them have offered a complete analysis of existing ML-assisted membrane fabrication methods from material design perspective. A two-way information gateway is therefore necessary to achieve the desired objective, whereby experienced researchers and data scientists from both sides need to provide valuable insights into novel membrane development process. In this work, we offer a midway platform by providing an overall view and scopes of ML uses in membrane science. …
