Angiotensin Receptor/Neprilysin Inhibitors As First-Line Medication To Increase Lifespan In Patients With Preserved Ejection Fraction Heart Failure, Josie Benzie

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers

Heart failure (HF) impacts approximately 6.7 million adults in the United States, with over half classified as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). As the condition progresses, it can significantly diminish the quality of life and substantially increase the risk of early mortality. This literature review evaluates the effectiveness of angiotensin receptorneprilysin inhibitors (ARNIs) compared to traditional renin-angiotensin system (RAAS) medications in reducing hospitalizations, cardiac deaths, and natriuretic peptide levels in HFpEF patients. A comprehensive search of PubMed and Embase identified 1,033 studies, with eight meeting criteria for final analysis. Sacubitril/valsartan did not significantly reduce hospitalizations or cardiac deaths …

Efficacy Of Turmeric In The Treatment Of Osteoarthritis, Mckenna Taylor

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis that affects millions of people worldwide and can lead to debilitating pain and some forms of immobilization. It is a progressive disease, one that comes from persistent use of joints. Factors that may increase the risk for osteoarthritis include age, female gender, joint injury, obesity, and genetics. Additionally, these factors can increase the rate of degeneration of the cartilage and joint space between bones, causing constant bone on bone contact. Currently, treatment or management of this disease has included oral NSAIDs, acetaminophen, corticosteroids, corticosteroid injections, oral and topical analgesics. However, …

Supplement To "A Theoretical Investigation Of The Selectivity Of Aza-Crown-Ether Structures Chelating Alkali Metal Cations For Potential Biosensing Applications", Mouhmad Elayyan, Mark Hoffmann, Binglin Sui

Datasets

Aza-crown ether structures have been proven effective in constructing fluorescent biosensors for selectively detecting and imaging alkali metal ions in biological environments. However, choosing the right aza-crown ether for a specific alkali metal ion remains challenging for synthetic chemists because theoretical guidance on the chelating activities between aza-crown ethers and alkali metal ions has not been available up to now. Predicting the physical properties of the chelator-metal complexations poses a greater challenge due to the numerous quantum mechanical functionals and basis sets to be used in any theoretical investigation. In this study, we report a theoretical investigation of different aza-crown …

Juvenile Treatment: A Systematic Review Of Methadone On Juveniles After Incarceration, Joshua Bortieh

Criminal Justice Scholarly Projects

Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) has emerged as a harm-reduction strategy for addressing opioid use disorder (OUD) among justice-involved juveniles. Despite its growing implementation, there remains limited consensus regarding its effectiveness in reducing recidivism, its ethical and legal implications, and the systemic barriers surrounding its administration. This study employed a systematic literature review (SLR) to examine the therapeutic, ethical, and criminological dimensions of MMT in juvenile justice populations. The review followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines and synthesized 15 peer-reviewed empirical studies published between 2010 and 2023. Data were sourced from four major electronic databases PubMed, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science using …

Nursing Capstones

Background: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist (RA) drugs have been transformative when managing obesity in the clinical setting. Though these medications are effective for weight loss, questions regarding their efficacy for long-term weight loss or maintenance remain unanswered.

Purpose: The purpose of this scoping review was to answer the following clinical question: Can overweight or obese patients (P) who use tirzepatide without exercise (I) as compared to those incorporating 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic exercise (C) sustain a ≥5% weight loss (O) one-year post-treatment (T)?

Methods: Five electronic article databases were searched to locate articles …

The Effect Of Breastfeeding On Maternal Mental Health, Quinn Packineau Apr 2025

The Effect Of Breastfeeding On Maternal Mental Health, Quinn Packineau

Nursing Capstones

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a significant public health issue impacting maternal and infant well-being, and though breastfeeding benefits both mother and baby, its effect on PPD is uncertain. This scoping literature review explores whether breastfeeding versus bottle feeding reduces PPD risk within six months postpartum using CINAHL and PubMed search of studies from the last five years on breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and PPD correlations. From 17 qualifying studies, results display exclusive and prolonged breastfeeding linked to lower PPD rates. However, the relationship is bidirectional because PPD can also prompt early breastfeeding cessation. Maternal self-efficacy, lactation support, and socioeconomic- demographic factors …

Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Therapy And Substance Use Disorders, Rachel J. Brunsell Apr 2025

Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Therapy And Substance Use Disorders, Rachel J. Brunsell

Nursing Capstones

Background: Treatment options for SUDs fail to address the neurobiological underpinnings of addiction. Recent studies suggest that GLP-1s, including semaglutide, liraglutide, and exenatide, offer therapeutic benefits by reducing cravings, improving treatment adherence, and decreasing relapse rates across a range of SUDs, including alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, nicotine, and opioid use disorders.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to explore studies that highlight the potential benefits of GLP-1 receptor agonists in reducing substance cravings, improving treatment adherence, and decreasing relapse rates for patients with various SUDs.

Methods: A comprehensive review of recent studies examining the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists, including …

The Impact Of Sensory Sensitivity On Nutritional Outcomes In Children With Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Rachel M. Qualley

Theses and Dissertations

Background/Objective: Children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are at increased risk of malnutrition due to restrictive dietary patterns and behavioral difficulties at mealtimes. Research suggests that heightened sensory sensitivity, a characteristic accompanying several of these disorders, may be a contributing factor. However, the effects of sensory sensitivity on nutritional outcomes across distinct NDDs have not been fully explored. This review aims to examine the relationship between sensory sensitivity and nutritional status, food preferences, and eating behaviors in children with NDDs, specifically investigating how atypical sensory processing might influence dietary intake.

Methods: A literature search was conducted using Google Scholar, PubMed, …

Physics-Integrated Neural Networks For Improved Mineral Volumes And Porosity Estimation From Geophysical Well Logs, Prasad Pothana, Kegang Ling Apr 2025

Physics-Integrated Neural Networks For Improved Mineral Volumes And Porosity Estimation From Geophysical Well Logs, Prasad Pothana, Kegang Ling

Petroleum Engineering Student Publications

Accurate estimation of mineralogy from geophysical well logs is crucial for characterizing geological formations, particularly in hydrocarbon exploration, CO2 sequestration, and geothermal energy development. Current techniques, such as multimineral petrophysical analysis, offer details into mineralogical distribution. However, it is inherently time-intensive and demands substantial geological expertise for accurate model evaluation. Furthermore, traditional machine learning techniques often struggle to predict mineralogy accurately and sometimes produce estimations that violate fundamental physical principles. To address this, we present a new approach using Physics-Integrated Neural Networks (PINNs), that combines data-driven learning with domain-specific physical constraints, embedding petrophysical relationships directly into the neural network …
