Interactive Features Of E-Texts’ Effects On Learning: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Virginia Clinton-Lisell, Ben Seipel, Staci Gilpin, Christine Litzinger

Education, Health & Behavior Studies Faculty Publications

E-texts afford interactive features that are not feasible with paper texts. Several studies have been conducted examining interactive features of E-texts, but it is uncertain what the overall effect is or what features may be most useful. The purpose of this study is to systematically review and meta-analysis of the findings comparing reading performance and/or reading times between E-texts with interactive features and control texts (paper or static E-texts). The systematic search of the literature identified 26 independent studies on reading performance. Based on the meta-analysis, interactive features benefited reading performance (g = .66, p < .001). Individual studies with positive effects involved multiple interactive features; however, potential contributions of three types of features (questions with feedback, digital glossaries, and collaborative tools) are discussed. Future directions for examining interactive features experimentally to better understand what features are most helpful for whom are described.

Sdnet2021: Annotated Nde Dataset For Structural Defects, Eberichi Ichi, Sattar Dorafshan

Datasets

SDNET2021 is a uniquely validated annotated dataset for evaluating the condition of concrete bridge decks and benchmarking advanced deep learning models for defects (delamination, cracks, rebar corrosion) detection and bridge deck evaluation. Common structural defects, such as cracks, delamination, spalling, rebar corrosion, etc. are commonly detected using traditional hands-on inspections (visual, destructive, chain dragging, and sounding). These methods are accompanied with limitations such as disruption and closure of traffic, laborious, costly, time consuming and possible inconsistencies and likelihood of errors in field data collection and interpretation. Usually there exists dataset for surface defects from laboratory specimens, but rare validated datasets …

Language Archive Records: Interoperability Of Referencing Practices And Metadata Models, Hugh J. Paterson Iii

Theses and Dissertations

With the rise of the digital language archive and the plethora of referenceable content, a critical question arises: “How easy is it for authors to use existing tools to cite the content they are referencing?” This is especially important as people use archived materials as evidence within published language descriptions.

Archived resource metadata is well discussed in language documentation circles; however, bibliographic metadata and its accessibility are less discussed. Discoverability metadata, a subset of archived resource metadata, serves aggregators like OLAC by declaring a resource exists. In contrast, bibliographic metadata functions within documents by declaring where to find a resource …
