This dissertation explores the contemporary practices of seal harvesting among Indigenous Peoples, with a special focus on policies that inform the revitalization of seal harvesting within the Taa-laa-waa Dee-ni’ (Tolowa) community of Northern California and Southern Oregon. The research is conducted by an Indigenous researcher seeking to further connect to traditional practices of her tribe, and this research places a strong emphasis on cultural sensitivity and ethical integrity. Supercell thunderstorms are a mesoscale phenomenon characterized by an intense rotating updraft (i.e., the “mesocyclone”) and disproportionately account for more severe weather reports compared to ordinary deep convection. No previous research that we are aware of has explicitly analyzed the role that cold pools – shallow regions of precipitation-cooled air near the surface – play in impacting supercell development, sustenance, and strength. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in Search and Rescue (SAR) operations,combined with teaming configurations and optimized path planning algorithms, enhance efficiency in locating and assisting disaster victims. Flooding accounts for 90% of natural disasters in the USA, necessitating rapid scouting and supply drops in affected areas. Current UAS path planning lacks proper start and end point selection and does not use multiple aircraft collaboratively.

Transgender adults living in rural communities within the USA may be at an increased risk for suicidal ideation compared to their cisgender peers. Sexual perpetration is a pervasive public health concern with various theoretical models used to account for the developmental trajectory of this form of behavior. Personality traits have been incorporated into both etiologic and violence risk assessment predictive models. Contemporary personality inventories have not been examined extensively as risk indicators of self-reported sexual aggressiveness. The current study examined links between self-reported sexual perpetration and selected scales from the Millon® Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI®-IV) and Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5). This qualitative study provides interpretations of the nature of strategic plans at small private liberal arts institutions. The study explored the concepts of innovation, entrepreneurship, and transformation detailed in the plans. This study included a specific cohort of eight United States small private liberal arts colleges with similar characteristics regarding academic programs, enrollment, and fiscal stability. The research was conducted through document analysis of the institutions’ publicly available strategic plans. This paper presents a solution for determining if a wheeled robot is stuck that is operating without high fidelity localization sensors or operating in a sensor denied environment. Expensive sensors are often left off of consumer grade robotics in order to make them more widely available to consumers. This leaves the robot without effective means of perception. CO2 emissions contribute approximately 79% to the warming of the Earth's surface. Various tactics have been developed to slow down global warming and prepare for climate change, including carbon mineralization. This research analyzed 100 Instagram posts of ten Saudi women's public figures using a qualitative methodology to explore how their cultural and gender roles and norms are portrayed and how these portrayals align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 objectives. The findings indicate that these public figures integrate traditional cultural and gender norms with contemporary norms in their online presentations. Traditional attire and familial roles are commonly showcased, underscoring the profoundly ingrained importance of cultural values in alignment with the findings in existing literature. The trans panic defense is a provocation defense that uses the victim’s transgender identity as justification for the defendant’s violent actions. Previous research has identified juror characteristics that predict support for the gay panic defense (Michalski & Nunez, 2022) and trans panic defense (Michalski et al., 2022), but less is known about whether case type impacts support for the trans panic defense. Temperature, atmospheric pressure, and vapor pressure affect electromagnetic propagation. ​For radars, variations in electromagnetic propagation can cause a radar target (e.g., aircraft) to shift in its apparent position, resulting in misrepresentation of the target’s position on the radar display​. These variations can be forecast using atmospheric profiles from Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and ray tracing software. Evaluation and quantification of differences between forecasted and analyzed electromagnetic propagation conditions using ray tracing techniques and atmospheric conditions derived from the Rapid Refresh (RAP) model will provide guidance regarding Detect And Avoid (DAA) performance requirements.

Additives are ingredients used in papermaking to enhance fiber properties, introduce special properties to the paper and improve the efficiency of the paper making process. Wet strength agents, sizing agents, dry strength agents, fillers, retention aids, defoamers, dyes and pigments are common additives used in paper mills. A key area linking frontier observational capabilities to theoretical questions of exoplanet system architectures is the transport and evolution of water in planet-forming disks and mechanisms that tune its incorporation into planets. This research develops a pebble accretion model of planet formation (“the PPOLs Model”) that self-consistently handles the drift and accretion of rocky/icy pebbles around stars ranging from late M-dwarfs to early A-stars. The model grows multiple protoplanet cores simultaneously and evolves the snow line position consistently with evolving disk conditions. The Plains CO₂ Reduction (PCOR) Partnership Atlas provides a profile of CO₂ sources and potential storage locations across the PCOR Partnership region. The revised sixth edition of the Atlas provides an up-to-date look at PCOR Partnership initiative activities, including additional regional characterization and updates on commercial projects. Additional background information on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) is included to give a better understanding of how CCUS addresses concerns about climate change while allowing future energy needs to be met.

The International Anchoritic Society (IAS) celebrated its twentieth year in 2023. Despite its name, the IAS studies all forms of medieval religious reclusion, not just the titular anchorites, and not just within the Christian tradition. Starting in 1998, independently organized sessions at Kalamazoo gradually coalesced into a formal organization, recognized officially in 2003, that has always been inclusive and supportive of forward-thinking scholarship, with many members representing the queer community and medievalists of color.
