A Novel Regulatory Mechanism Of Glycolysis Via Glycolytic Enzyme-Tubulin Interactions: Modulation By Protein-Tyrosine Kinase Phosphorylation Of Tubulin., K. Warren Volker

Glycolytic enzymes have been shown to bind to the cytoskeletal protein, tubulin. These protein-protein interactions have been hypothesized to provide compartmentation of glycolysis in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells via the cytoskeleton, a component of the microtrabecular lattice.Previously, in my thesis work, it was determined that four enzymes of glycolysis (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, aldolase, pyruvate kinase, and lactate dehydrogenase-muscle type) had high affinity for the $\alpha$-subunit C-terminal region of tubulin. When this region was removed proteolytically, binding was diminished. The localization of the glycolytic enzyme domain on tubulin, phosphorylation of this domain, and in vivo effects of the domain are investigated …

This dissertation is divided into four subjects. They are: (1) the improved synthesis of known group 4 metallocenes; (2) the synthesis of new group 4 metallocenes; (3) the synthesis of new geminal diindenes, potential ligands for highly reactive polyolefin catalysts, and the improved synthesis of a known ligand precursor; and (4) the application of group 4 metallocenes in C-H activation.Rac-EBIZrCl$\sb2$ is prepared in 66% isolated yield via a non-aqueous, non-acidic workup. Additionally, the preparation of ligand precursor 1,2-(3-indenyl)ethane is significantly improved by inverse addition of indenyl anion to 1,2-dibromoethane. Hamstring tendons have gained a great deal of acceptance in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction procedures in the 1990's, but some misconceptions concerning the ability of hamstring grafts to successfully replace ruptured ACLs still exist. More surgeons are using hamstring tendons to reconstruct ACL-deficient knees because their harvest does not disrupt the extensor mechanism of the knee. Enthusiasts of the hamstring graft believe that it promotes quicker return of quadriceps strength and knee range of motion without a prevalence of postoperative pateIIofemoral symptoms.

Power is of extreme interest to coaches and athletes alike because of the crucial role it plays in athletic performance. This independent study examines the essence of power and attempts to describe its components in detail as they relate to various sporting events and explores theoretical and practical considerations for anaerobic power augmentation using mathematical arguments as a basis for the suggested changes to traditional training protocol.

Specifically, this study suggests changes to traditional resistance training protocol during the power phase of a mesocycie by decreasing the percentage of the maximal lift from 90% through 95% to 60% through 85%. …

On April 19, 1997, Grand Forks and East Grand Forks were overtaken by the largest flood seen in the cities in modern times. Tens of thousands abandoned their homes. Scattered throughout the region, they could do little more than wait for news reports and worry about what they would find when the waters subsided. At the University of North Dakota, the academic year had come to an abrupt end. Students, faculty and staff were among the evacuated. The recent epidemic of cocaine in all its various forms, including crack, has resulted in large numbers of infants being born after in utero exposure to cocaine. Since most substance abusing pregnant women choose not to receive prenatal care, the diagnosis is often missed or made late during labor because that is when the mother is first examined by medical professionals.

A well-defined "fetal cocaine syndrome" does not exist. However, attempts to characterize the fetal effects of cocaine exposure during pregnancy when attempting to define this syndrome have revealed a wide variety of fetal effects.

When a patient enters a physical therapy clinic for wound therapy, a physical therapist must decide the best way to provide care. The therapy that is decided upon depends on the client, the therapist, and the goals that are trying to be achieved.

Through a literature review, I will compare two methods of wound care treatment: therapeutic ultrasound and electrical stimulation. This paper will look at the way these two treatments work and how these treatments are beneficial in wound healing.

The purpose of this study was to further enhance the knowledge of autogenous tissues around the knee which are used for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Ten fresh-frozen cadaveric knee specimens were used to conduct this experiment. The semitendinosus and gracilis tendons, as well as the bone-patellar tendon-bone complex, were excised and prepared for testing. The semitendinosus and gracilis tendons were doubled and fashioned into a quadruple-stranded graft. The tissue units were then individually fixated in a tensile testing apparatus and tested to failure. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze and compare our data with similar studies to …

An exposure with 15 buried A-horizons near Douglas Creek, Lake Sakakawea, central North Dakota, has provided an excellent opportunity for paleoclimate reconstruction. Analyses included texture, stable carbon, radiocarbon, pollen, and phytoliths. The variations in these properties between individual soil horizons served to reconstruct the former environments of each soil horizon.

The paleosols were developed in a sequence of deposits in a mile-long tributary to the Missouri River. The soils are in a shallow valley fill exposed by wave action along the north shore of Lake Sakakawea. The 1996 exposure was up to 4m high and 51.5m wide. There were up …
