Syntheses And Characterizations Of Bis(1°-Amino)-Cyclodiphosph(V)Azanes, Bis(Diazasilaphosphetidines), And Some Of Their Metal Complexes., Graham Russel Lief

Cyclodiphosph(V)azane ligands of the general formula [R(H)NE=P(μ-N tBu)2P=EN(H)R] where R = tBu, Ph, or Cy, and E = O, S, Se, or N-p-tolyl were synthesized and structurally characterized. Reaction of PCl3 and H2NtBu produced [ClP(μ-NtBu)2PCl]. Treatment of [ClP(μ-N tBu)2PCl] with LiN(H)R produced [R(H)NP(μ-Nt Bu)2PN(H)R] which was then oxidized using elemental sulfur and selenium, para-tolyl azide, and cumene hydroperoxide, generating ligands of general formula [R(H)NE=P(μ-NtBu) 2P=EN(H)R]. Treatment of [R(H)NE=P(μ-NtBu)2P=EN(H)R] with metal alkyls or amides produced complexes of the type {LnM[RNE=P(μ-N tBu)2P=ENR]MLn} and {LnM[RNE=P(μN tBu)2P=EN(H)R]} where M = Al, Zn, Zr, or Ti, and L = alkyl, amido, or THF ligands. Cervical ripening involves an active process of extracellular matrix remodeling to produce dramatic changes in the biomechanical properties of the cervix. Comparison of temporal changes in proteoglycan synthesis, glycosaminoglycan accumulation, and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity in rat cervices related to pregnancy will allow us to better understand the sequence of events that control cervical ripening. To maintain clinical relevance, we will compare the effects of clinically used cervical ripening agents on extracellular matrix synthesis and degradation using human cervical fibroblasts in vitro.

Nucleoside diphosphate kinases (NDP kinases) are a family of enzymes that transfer the gamma-phosphate group from a NTP (nucleoside triphosphate) to a NDP (nucleoside diphosphate). The reaction follows a ping-pong mechanism in which the enzyme is transiently phosphorylated on a conserved histidine residue. In the cell, activity appears to be ubiquitous as it is associated with the cytosol, nucleus, mitochondria and plasma membrane. NDP kinase enzymatic activity has been demonstrated in a variety of tissues. The classical role proposed for NDP kinase in mitochondrial matrix is the transfer of a phosphoryl group from GTP (produced in the TCA cycle) to …

A unique alliance has been formed among seven institutions of higher education in North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana to allow the institutions to retain their Clinical Laboratory Science programs. One institution, the University of North Dakota (UND), maintains program accreditation and provides the senior-year curriculum for all members of the alliance. The students from the institutions other than UND (host institutions) complete four prerequisite courses (parasitology, immunology, microbiology and hematology) prior to coming to the UND campus for the senior-year program. Adrenergic receptors (ARs) represent a family of G protein-coupled receptors endogenously activated by norepinephrine and epinephrine. One area of the brain where AR activation modulates cellular activity is CA1 hippocampus, however it is not known which AR subtypes are specifically involved, nor the mechanism behind the AR-mediated changes in activity. The goal of this study was thus two-fold; (1) Identify the specific AR subtypes expressed in CA1, and (2) Identify the mechanism by which AR activation changes CA1 neuron excitability. The purpose of this study was to determine if labor epidural analgesia education provided by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to expectant women during antenatal childbirth education classes improved the recall of risks associated with labor epidural analgesia. Catecholaminergic input, acting through adrenergic receptors (AR), serves an important role in regulating the activity of the hippocampus; however, the synaptic elements whereby the abundant input mediates its actions remains obscure. Immunohistochemical and molecular biological techniques and a variety of experimental animal models, were used to examine the adrenergic receptor profiles displayed by distinct populations of neurons (interneurons and principal cells) or glial in rodent hippocampus. In the adult rat, immunoreactive puncta for eight of the nine adrenergic receptor subtypes were differentially distributed amongst regional glia, blood vessels, and neurons of the subiculum, hippocampus proper and dentate gyrus. This study describes this historic origin, recent range expansion, and a generalized habitat suitability model for wild pigs (Sus scrofa ) in California. The genetic origins of wild pigs in California was determined to be of European and Asian descent by comparing published mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence data from European and Asian wild and domestic pigs with 107 wild pig mtDNA sequences from California. One potentially important step in the compartmentation of glycolysis is the binding of glycoltic enzymes including: fructose-1 .6-biphosphate aldolase (aldolase), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) or lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoforms to cytoskeletal proteins like: F-actin or tubulin which is the major building block of microtubules. Tetrameric LOH can have different isoforms resulting from all possible combination of the muscle (M) or heart (H) type monomers. Succinyl-CoA synthetase (SCS) in eukaryotes is an alpha-beta heterodimer with the nucleotide specificity residing within the beta subunit. It was previously believed that animals have the GTP-specific isoform, while plants and bacteria possess the ATP-specific isoform. However, recent work demonstrated that both isoforms of SCS exist in mammals, and the cDNA sequences for the GTP and ATP-specific beta subunits have been determined for mouse and human. SSeCKS (src suppressed C kinase substrate) is a proposed protein kinase C substrate that has been localized in the peripheral and central nervous system. In this study, approximately 40% of small primary sensory neurons in the DRG contain SSeCKS-immunoreactivity with many of these cells devoid of SP (4.8%), CGRP (4.7%), or FRAP reactivity (45.0%). In the spinal cord, SSeCKS-immunoreactive axon collaterals terminate in the dorsal third of lamina IIouter suggesting that these fibers are unmyelinated C-, or small diameter myelinated Aδ-, fibers. Additionally, capsaicin treatment essentially obliterated SSeCKS immunoreactivity in the dorsal horn. Quantitative analysis of dorsal root ganglia revealed …

A fundamental question in the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) field is how a multi-functional kinase, like PKA, can maintain specificity of a response. Modulating the post-translational levels of the regulatory subunit (RIα) of PKA may be one important means of determining PKA specificity. The Ecdysone-inducible Receptor (EcR)-HEK293 cell line was utilized to examine the hypothesis that an in vivo phosphorylation site at Ser-81 in RIα, located in a putative degradation sequence, may be a signal for protein stability. Pulse-chase experiments determined the half-life of endogenous RIα to be 4.8 hours. A histidine-tagged wild-type or Ser-81-Ala mutant of RIα was stably …

Exposing young, impressionable children to violence may be traumatic and life-altering. Exposure to domestic violence can harm children cognitively, emotionally, physically and developmentally. During infancy and early childhood, children make frequent acute and well-child visits to healthcare providers. Differences in the phonetic and phonological systems of Bangla and English result in negative transfer in the Bangla stop productions of native English speakers. The phonetic realizations of Voice and Aspiration and their interactions with each other are the key factors in this. A production study was carried out focusing on sixteen of the twenty Bangla stops that are distinguished by a four-way voice/aspiration contrast at four different places of articulation, providing a contrastive acoustic analysis of the pronunciation of L1 and L2 adult speakers. This study examined sex and age differences in vulnerability factors associated with adolescent depression in a sample of boys and girls. Sex and age comparisons in the means and associations with depressive symptoms, self-esteem, social support, attachment, and expressiveness were examined among 510 adolescents (263 boys; 247 girls; Mage= 13.68; SD= 1.769). Additionally, this study was to identify prominent vulnerability factors for depression in adolescence from a group of known vulnerability factors with depression.

This study uses archival sources and oral interviews to construct a history of the kindergarten and first grade programs at the Minot State University Laboratory School (MSU) from 1966 – 1990. The length of the study is based on the time the kindergarten was in existence at the MSU Laboratory School. The school was unique in North Dakota because it was the last laboratory in the state. A variety of educational methodologies and techniques were developed in an effort to improve instruction.
