Attitudes And Behavior Of Educators Involved In Confluent Teaching, Martin M. Koller

Theses and Dissertations

The study attempted to clarify the relationships between expressed attitude and observed teacher behavior. The purpose was to find positive ways of causing educators to incorporate cognitive and affective processes into their educational activities. At the same time, ways of meeting student needs in a confluent setting were sought.

The review of the literature provided relevant information already available through the efforts of other researchers. A multidiscipline approach in this review resulted in several conclusions:

1. Certain bio-self needs result in feelings that cause behavior.

2. Feelings and learning can be correlated so that behavior change takes place.

3. Learning …

Symbolic Civic Awareness: A Study Of Political Socialization In The City Of Grand Forks, Richard J. Hardy

Theses and Dissertations

Numerous studies in political socialization have suggested that the child's political world begins about the age of three and is basically- completed by age thirteen. Using this finding as a guideline, the author proposed in this study to determine at what age elementary school children develop a symbolic awareness of their government.

Based on a format similar to that used by Greenstein, Hess, and Easton, a study was made in the City of Grand Forks involving 951 children in grades one through six. To achieve representativeness and control, six elementary schools were selected based on socio-economic, philosophic, and religious variable. …

An Examination Of The Lubell Thesis: A Statistical And History Study Of The Mcintosh County, North Dakota, 1936-1940, Thomas J. Cummings

Theses and Dissertations

North Dakota is often referred to as the leading isolationist state in the Union. The vociferous opposition expressed by the state’s people to World Wars I and II is cited as proof for this label. One explanation for the state's behavior, advanced by Samuel Lubell, stresses ethnic origin. According to this view, the German-Russian population of the state is responsible for making North Dakota an isolationist stronghold. This study of one German-Russian county, McIntosh county, is an attempt to examine the validity of Lubell's ethnic explanation. In particular, this study focuses on the reasons for the rejection of Franklin Roosevelt …

Its popularity appears not to have diminished in the past 3Q00 years, in fact the recent level of interest in the subject was exemplified when President Lyndon Johnson formed a special committee (Commission on Obscenity and Pornography) in 1967 to study pornography and obscenity. This Commission directly and indirectly initiated many scientific studies in the field of pornography.

Subjective judgments of pornography have been scaled before. The kinds of scaling approaches employed in these scale measurement developments are open to criticism and alternative scaling approaches have been …
