Alterations In Cerebellar Basket, Stellate And Purkinje Cell Dendritic Development Produced By Zinc Deficiency In The Suckling Rat., Christopher Lee Dvergsten
Alterations In Cerebellar Basket, Stellate And Purkinje Cell Dendritic Development Produced By Zinc Deficiency In The Suckling Rat., Christopher Lee Dvergsten
Theses and Dissertations
Rat pups suckled to severely zinc deficient mothers from birth were killed at 21 days of age. The cerebella were then examined by light and electron microscopy. Dendritic development was analyzed on Golgi-stained sections both qualitatively and quantitatively. Impaired pup growth, alopecia, hunched back posture and decreased femur zinc were seen in zinc deficient pups. Zinc deficiency impaired cerebellar development. The cerebellum was smaller and had fewer granule cells. The molecular layer was thinner and there was a persistence of the external granule cell layer. The normal cytoarchitecture of the cerebellar cortex was maintained in zinc deficient pups; however, basket, …

Autecology Of Atriplex Canescens (Pursh) Nutt. In Southwestern United States, Roger W. Ruess
Autecology Of Atriplex Canescens (Pursh) Nutt. In Southwestern United States, Roger W. Ruess
Theses and Dissertations
Atriplex oanescens, a facultatively evergreen dioecious shrub inhabiting cold and warm winter deserts of western United States, was studied at four sites in the Great Basin. The species was commonly a co-dominant in communities throughout its distribution, and was frequently found with other members of the Chenopodiaceae and members of Compositae. It was found to resprout vigorously and experiments indicated that seeds from all sites germinated easily in wetted, well 3 aerated soil. The mean plant size ranged from 0.62±0.48 to 7.05±2.19 m . 3 -1 Density and cover ranged from 400 to 1.022 X 10 plants ha , and …

The Winter Ecology Of The Gadwall In Louisiana, Stuart Lindsay Paulus
The Winter Ecology Of The Gadwall In Louisiana, Stuart Lindsay Paulus
Theses and Dissertations
Data on the disabled in textbooks revealed that more disabled males than disabled females were visible. More adults including senior citizens were depicted as disabled characters. Sixty-seven percent of the disabilities were physical in origin. Nearly 70 percent of the disabled characters were Caucasian. Characterization and language were generally positive.
Analysis of flock characteristics indicated paired and unpaired gadwall remained partially segregated and that pairs were dominant over unpaired gadwall. Pairs were involved in less agonistic activity and remained at greater distances from other birds than unpaired gadwall. Pairing cnronology and behavior suggested that although pairs arose from temporary associations, …
The Effects Of Prenatal And Postnatal Zinc Deficiency On Development Of Long-Term Memory In The Rat, Myra D. Heinrich
The Effects Of Prenatal And Postnatal Zinc Deficiency On Development Of Long-Term Memory In The Rat, Myra D. Heinrich
Theses and Dissertations
The following studies were designed to determine whether zinc deficiency, either prenatal or postnatal, could influence the time course of development of long-term memory in rats. Three nutritional conditions were imposed on litters of rat pups. One group (zinc deficient-ZD) was subjected to a zinc-deficient diet and deionized water. Members of a second group (pair fed-PF) were allowed to eat as much of the zinc-deficient diet as a certain member of the ZD group consumed on the previous day, along with zinc-supplemented water. This PF group was starved, since zinc deficiency typically causes anorexia. The third group (ad libitum-AL) was …
Achievement And Selected Demographic Variables In Relation To Participation In The Early Childhood Education Program On The Devils Lake Sioux Reservation, John E. Derby
Theses and Dissertations
The 1969 Kennedy Report revealed that one of the primary reasons for low achievement among Indian children was the negative self-image that they had of themselves. As a primary result of this study, Congress passed the Indian Education Act of 1972, which attempts to address the educational needs and concerns of Indian people, both young and old alike. The Devils Lake Sioux Early Childhood Education program has been in existence since the mid 1960s and provides three- and four-year-old children with a preschool program in the areas of cognitive thinking, social development, and improving psychomotor skills. The purpose of this …

The Arc of North Dakota v. State of North Dakota Lawsuit Collection
This document, dated January 1980, is a comprehensive report based on an initial survey conducted by various departments of the North Dakota government. It is organized into three sections by color of page: Grafton State School in Canary, San Haven State Hospital in Pink, and the rules in White. Each of the first two sections focuses on a specific facility and follows a consistent format. The first subsection outlines the relevant policies and laws, along with comments on the status of compliance. Next is the Fire Marshal's report, which assesses the safety of each building and identifies necessary measures to …

The Relationship Between Transitional Object Attachments In Early Childhood And Psychological Functioning In Later Life, Keith Cohen
Theses and Dissertations
This study focused upon assessing various relationships between the presence or absence of a transitional object in early childhood and aspects of psychological functioning in later life. The nature of the inanimate object attachments were determined by stringent criteria involving both self- and parental-reports. Personality differences were found between those subjects demonstrating strong singular attachments that persisted for a considerable period of time and those having no such significant attachments. The nature of what might be considered optimal object attachments was discussed in light of the findings.
