Distinctives Of Corongo Quechua: Historical And Synchronic Perspectives, Daniel J. Hintz

This thesis presents the structure of Corongo Quechua from four distinct but complementary perspectives. One, it describes the segmental sound system both historically and synchronically. Two, it provides a substantial amount of data in the form of glossed texts in a variety of genres. Three, it provides a brief description of the morphological structure and a complete list of suffixes with examples. Four, it includes a brief glossary of commonly occurring roots.

The description of the sound system has a comparative focus, examining those aspects of the phonological structure that are distinct from other Quecha dialects. It specifically examines Corongo …

The Air Force Comes To North Dakota: A Study In The Site Selection Of Grand Forks And Minot Air Force Bases, Rich J. Nolan

In 1954 the Air Force decided to locate two air bases in North Dakota. After deciding on locations at Fargo and Bismarck, the Air Force then changed the locations to Grand Forks and Minot. The decision created an uproar in the state as each major city fought to receive a base. Another controversy erupted over the site selection within Grand Forks County when the Air Force changed the locations from its original choice.

Chautauqua, a totally American institution which impacted nearly forty million people in its approximately fifty-year existence from 1874 to 1930, was a place to enrich lives through education, inspiration, and recreation. Devils Lake, North Dakota, a small, isolated town on the Midwestern plains, located on the shores of a large, salt-water lake, became the site of the nation's third largest independent Chautauqua in the nation, operating from 1893 to 1929.

This thesis is a study of the history of the Devils Lake Chautauqua, its organization, and development. Included in the research is a study of the national Chautauqua and Lyceum …

The Spanish civil war and the political regime that resulted from it deprived Spain of the presence and immediate inspiration of a large group of remarkably creative individuals. Some of the best minds of a literary generation left their country to protest the political situation and to continue to be true to their inner voices. Besides numerous personal and professional adjustments, hese people were faced with a tremendous sense of uprooting hat inevitably accompanies the experience of exile.

Napoleon And Russia And The Teaty Of Tilsit: Its Implications For Europe, Paul A. Hefti

The Treaty of Tilsit of 1807 between Russia and France was a minor slowing of the flow of the Napoleonic Wars that dominated Europe in the early nineteenth century. It united the two nations against Britain, but, in larger terms, it polarized continental Europe into two separate (or distinct) conflicting spheres. The treaty and its effects provided a foreshadowing of post-World War I Europe and the subsequent twentieth-century concept of peaceful coexistence.

The major personalities involved in making the treaty were Alexander I of Russia and Napoleon Bonaparte of France. Their meeting on a boat in the Niemen River had …

This dissertation deals with sex-role stereotyping in mediaeval English hagiography, in particular with all the Anglo-Saxon hagiographical poems, AElfric's Lives of the Saints, other selected pieces of Old English prose hagiography, and selected pieces of Middle English prose and verse hagiography, among them The South English Legendary. By looking at the ways in which the various authors present holy men and holy women, showing the positions and roles the saints had in both religious and secular society, the way they lived and the way they died, the dissertation shows that the sex-determined roles varied from author to author and age …

The research problem is to investigate and analyze perception as an epistemological concept in the writings of Aristotle, using De Anima as the focus for the study.The purpose is to identify and analyze the epistemological premises in Aristotle's theory of perception with particular reference to the intellective process. The Aristotelian concepts utilized as the framework are perception, empiricism, imagination, memory, Aristotle's doctrine of potentiality and actuality and his theory of nous.Aristotle held that perception implies both conception and sense perception. This research was conducted for the purpose of studying geographical isolation as it relates to schools. Geographical isolation is defined in the study as the particular circumstances in which schools are in need of supplemental revenue due to a combination of small size and geographical factors which inhibit reorganization or consolidation. The procedure was to investigate, document, and synthesize the actual enactment, implementation, and impact of geographical isolation factors in selected states which have employed such factors in their school revenue legislation.

The purpose of this study was to historically trace three American educational developments through five specific time periods from 1700 to 1978 and to determine how these developments were related to the origins of the concepts of egalitarianism and a universal guarantee of minimum competence in American public schools.

Ella Deloria, a Dakota born on the Yankton Reservation in 1888, was a teacher, speaker, author, and researcher in linguistics and anthropology. One purpose. of this study ·was to present a description of her family background, education, and career. Most of this information was gathered by interviews with her relatives, friends, former students, and professional acquaintances. A second.purpose was to analyze her writings on the language and culture of the Dakota people and to determine her contributions to existing publications by others.
