Robust Multiple Regimes In Growth Volatility, Andros Kourtellos, Ioanna Stylianou, Chih Ming Tan Feb 2015

Robust Multiple Regimes In Growth Volatility, Andros Kourtellos, Ioanna Stylianou, Chih Ming Tan

Economics & Finance Faculty Publications

In this paper, we uncover growth volatility regimes and identify their robust determinants using a large international panel of countries. In doing so, we propose a novel empirical methodology that allows us to simultaneously deal with two key elements of model uncertainty, namely theory uncertainty and parameter heterogeneity, by unifying two recent econometric techniques: Bayesian model averaging and threshold regression. We find ample evidence of parameter heterogeneity and model uncertainty. Our results highlight the role of ethnic fractionalization, institutions, financial development, health, and geography.

Use Of Donepezil In Alzheimer's Disease: Suggested Practice Guidelines, Tamara Berg

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the cause of 60-80% of dementia (2014 Alzheimer’s disease, 2014). AD is estimated to affect over 5 million people over age 65 in the US (2014 Alzheimer’s disease, 2014). With the onset of baby boomers reaching the age of 65 and increased longevity it is estimated that 16 million persons will have Alzheimer’s by 2050. Eighty two percent of persons with AD are over age 85. In 2014 AD is the 6th leading cause of death and the highest cost disease in the US. (2014 Alzheimer’s disease, 2014)

The predicted increase in prevalence and incidence of …

Implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Into Post Cerebral Vascular Accident Rehabilitation: An Occupational Therapy Guideline, Erica Myers, Sarah Peterson Jan 2015

Implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Into Post Cerebral Vascular Accident Rehabilitation: An Occupational Therapy Guideline, Erica Myers, Sarah Peterson

Occupational Therapy Capstones

Strokes are a leading cause of disability in the United States, with approximately 7 million adults currently living with a stroke. The incidence rate of strokes is expected to significantly increase by 2030, which demonstrates a need for this population to receive quality care (Billinger et al., 2014). There is extensive research on how occupational therapists provide skilled interventions for the physical and cognitive deficits of a stroke; however, a gap in the literature exists regarding treatment of the psychosocial impairments an individual may experience post-stroke. Specifically, there is limited research on how to treat post-stroke depression (PSD) and post-stroke …

Rehabilitation Pre And Post Mpfl Reconstruction Secondary To Mpfl Tear, Kayla Skersick Jan 2015

Rehabilitation Pre And Post Mpfl Reconstruction Secondary To Mpfl Tear, Kayla Skersick

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Background and Purpose: The medial patello-femoral ligament (MPFL) is the primary soft tissue structure that withstands forces throughout range of motion (ROM) to prevent the patella from sliding over the lateral femoral condyle and dislocating from the patellar groove. Impaired stabilization and line of pull of the patella can directly affect the patella and the entire kinematic chain during movement. MPFL reconstruction has become the most popular surgical treatment to correct this anomaly when conservative strengthening and biomechanical correcting treatments have failed. This case study evaluates the effectiveness of physical therapy treatment pre-operative and postoperative MPFL reconstruction, and discusses the …

The Effectiveness Of The "Stepping On" Program For Reducing The Incidence Of Falls In The Elderly, Lisa Yonker, Jacqueline Maddock, Kathleen Breuer

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Background: One in three adults greater than 65 years of age have had an accidental fall in their lifetime. In 2012, accidental falls cost the U.S. healthcare system $30.1 billion dollars. Studies have shown that community based-exercise programs for older adults can improve strength, balance, and coordination and reduce the risk of falls.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to discover whether participant balance and confidence improved following the completion of the Stepping On program. Also, the study evaluated the effectiveness of Stepping On in …

Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation Therapy In Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Taylor Fontaine Jan 2015

Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation Therapy In Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Taylor Fontaine

• A new alternative treatment for OSA is hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy (HGNS), resulting in an increase in muscle …

• Saw Palmetto has no side effects, and is available at a low cost when compared to prescribed medications …

Pre-Hospital Tranexamic Acid Use For Trauma, Troy Thompson Jan 2015

Pre-Hospital Tranexamic Acid Use For Trauma, Troy Thompson

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

• Nearly 40% of deaths after trauma can be attributed to blood loss. It is well known that early surgical interventions, combined with other treatment modalities found in the hospital setting, lead to the decreased morbidity and mortality of trauma patients. However, in an outpatient setting, treatments for hemorrhage control are extremely limited.

• The purpose of this literature review was to explore tranexamic acid (TXA) use as an option for hemorrhage control and to determine its effect on morbidity and mortality in both prehospital and outpatient settings. TXA is an FDA approved antifibrinolytic that has proven efficacy for hemorrhage …
