Hotspot Analysis Of Nitrate And Arsenic Concentrations In Minnesota Well Water, Jadyn Keeler
Hotspot Analysis Of Nitrate And Arsenic Concentrations In Minnesota Well Water, Jadyn Keeler
Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Showcase
Water contamination is one of the biggest threats to water supply and can have long term human health consequences. It is key to identify vulnerable regions to develop better management strategies. This project utilizes hotspot and outlier geospatial analysis to locate areas across Minnesota with elevated levels of nitrate and arsenic in well water and better understand potential factors that might be influencing this. Statistically significant hotspots and cold spots were identified with up to 99% confidence. Hotspots of nitrate were located mainly in the south-central region while hotspots of arsenic were located primarily in the western and south-central portions …

Establishing The Inter-Rater Reliability Of The Titleist Performance Institute (Tpi) Movement Screen, Ian Henry Dahners, Matthew Fetner, Carlan Haugrud, Hunter Johnson, Braeden Lee Knutson, Erica Jo Peters, Dana Jayde Zarn
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Background: The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Movement Screen is a golf-specific physical assessment widely used by professionals to identify physical limitations that may influence swing mechanics and injury risk. Despite its popularity, there is limited peer-reviewed evidence regarding the screen’s inter-rater reliability. Without established reliability, clinical and performance decisions based on TPI scores may be questionable. Prior research on similar tools, such as the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), shows that reliability varies based on evaluator experience, scoring objectivity, and standardization—all relevant concerns for the TPI Movement Screen.
Purpose: To determine the inter-rater reliability of …

The Effects Of Dynamic Blood Flow Restriction On Transmembrane Fluid Shifts, Parker Bradley Carroll, Caden John Heinert, Isaiah John Kludt, Lucas Robert Simon
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
The benefits of blood flow restriction (BFR) training, particularly its ability to induce muscle hypertrophy, are well established. However, the physiological mechanisms underlying this hypertrophy remain unclear. This study hypothesized that fluid shifts within the skeletal muscle, specifically changes in intracellular fluid (ICF) and extracellular fluid (ECF) composition, contribute to hypertrophic responses following BFR exercise. The purpose of this study was to investigate ICF and ECF dynamics in the lower extremity skeletal muscle using bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy (BIS) following BFR in combination with submaximal resistance exercise. Additionally, the researchers aimed to determine the duration of fluid shifts by assessing ICF/ECF …

Electromyography (Emg) Of Lower Extremity Muscles During The Spanish Squat In Varied Foot Positions, Matthew Feddema, Jake Graf, Jenna Hildebrant, Allison Jepson, Jake Marciniak, Benjamin Oie
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Background: Knee injuries are among the most common sports-related injuries, often linked to weakness or imbalance in the quadriceps and gluteal muscles. Squat variations are frequently prescribed in rehabilitation to strengthen these muscle groups and enhance knee and hip stability. The Spanish squat (SS) has shown to be effective for increasing quadriceps activation while reducing joint stress. However, limited research has examined how different stance widths during Spanish squats may effect lower extremity muscle activation.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare surface electromyography (EMG) activity of selected lower extremity muscles during Spanish squat variations (narrow, shoulder-width, and wide stances) and …

Purpose/Hypothesis: Blood flow restriction (BFR) is a method of training that utilizes a tourniquet style cuff to limit the amount of blood flow to a working muscle during exercise. This method of training allows an individual to train at lower intensities while still gaining similar results to more traditional types of training. It has been shown in research that low intensity BFR has several benefits to structures distal to the level of the tourniquet, but minimal research has been conducted to investigate the benefits to proximal structures. This study is aimed at examining the proximal effects of BFR training on …

Helping Others To Help Yourself: Effects Of Prosocial Behavior On Anxiety And Depression, Matheus Muniz Pereira Vargas
Helping Others To Help Yourself: Effects Of Prosocial Behavior On Anxiety And Depression, Matheus Muniz Pereira Vargas
Psychology Student Publications
Helping others is a good way to help prevent psychological disorders. The literature reviewed here points towards a protective and mitigating effect on symptoms of anxiety and depression brought upon by prosocial behaviors. Prosocial behavior is associated with higher positive moods in participants with depression (Schacter & Margolin, 2019), it is negatively correlated with feelings of reported rates of depression, anxiety and isolation (Naclerio et al., 2026), and seems to have a protective effect against development and exacerbation of anxiety (Okuyucu et al., 2024). All of that indicates that encouraging these behaviors lead to more positive mental health outcomes without …

Experiential Avoidance And Acceptance-Based Therapy (Abbt), Addison Jo Quern
Psychology Student Publications
Anxiety is an incredibly common mental health concern that impacts individuals globally. Avoidance is a main feature that maintains the symptoms of anxiety but does not allow the individual to experience the distressing scenario, thus reaffirming that discomfort. This attempt to control or avoid anxiety can make the symptoms worse. Research demonstrates that avoidance can perpetuate anxiety, and stress can increase avoidance. Acceptance-based therapy (ABBT) is used to target avoidance behaviors to lessen the overall symptoms of anxiety. ABBT is a third wave of therapy that helps clients focus on the relationship they have with their thoughts and feelings, instead …
