The Use Of Dehydroepiandrosterone For Treatment Of Depression, Bryan Tipton

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfated ester (DHEA-S) are important pre-hormones that also have direct neurohormonal effects on the central nervous system. Over the last twenty years, data have revealed that serum DHEA peaks in a person’s mid-20s and steadily declines throughout their lifetime. In addition, women tend to have lower values than men. This is of note because lower serum values tend to be correlated with increased risk of depression, worse depressive symptoms, and increased risk of relapse into depression. A review of literature concerning DHEA’s age related values, its association with depression, and its use in the treatment of …

Is A Varicocelectomy Beneficial In The Era Of Assisted Reproductive Technologies, Chukwuka Oscar Nnoli

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

Clinical varicoceles are the most frequent physical finding associated with infertile men and impaired semen parameters. There is evidence that suggests varicocele repair improves semen parameter and increases the chances of natural pregnancy. Today, varicocele repair is often combined with assisted reproductive techniques (ART) such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), in Vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). In this literature review, data examining whether varicocelectomy before ART leads to improved pregnancy outcomes is reviewed. Current data suggest that there is a significant clinical benefit when correcting a varicocele in oligospermic men before IVF/ICSI. Similarly, men with non-obstructive azoospermia also …

Potentials Of Physiological Signals To Implement A Wearable Drowsiness Detection And Warning System For Pilots, Shubha Majumder

Theses and Dissertations

Drowsiness is a transitional psychophysiological state from alertness towards sleep, which decreases concentration and increases response time. Drowsiness during duty hours is common for in-flight pilots due to frequent travel across different time zones, extended duty hours as well as circadian rhythm disruption. Hence, drowsy flying is one of the leading reasons for increased risk of accidents, especially in commercial aviation. Mainly three approaches (i.e., vehicle-based, behavioral, and physiological signal based) are used for onboard drowsiness detection. Among them, physiological signal-based approach is advantageous for early detection of drowsiness with reasonable accuracy due to the strong relationship among some of …

Detection Of Shelterbelt Density Change Using Historic Apfo And Naip Aerial Imagery, Morgen Walter Victor Burke, Bradley Rundquist, Haochi Zheng

Geography & Geographic Information Science Faculty Publications

Grand Forks County, North Dakota, boasts the highest concentration of shelterbelts in the World. As trees age and reach their lifespan limits, renovations should have taken place with new trees being planted. However, in recent years, the rate of tree removal is thought to exceed the rate of replanting, which can result in a net loss of shelterbelts. Through manual digitization and geographic object-based image analysis (GEOBIA), we mapped shelterbelt densities in the Grand Forks County using historical and contemporary aerial photography, and estimated actual changes in density over 54 years. Our results showed a doubling in shelterbelt densities from …

Atmospheric Sciences Faculty Publications

The Indonesian fire and smoke event of 2015 was an extreme episode that affected public health and caused severe economic and environmental damage. The MODIS Dark Target (DT) aerosol algorithm, developed for global applications, significantly underestimated regional aerosol optical depth (AOD) during this episode. The larger-than-global-averaged uncertainties in the DT product over this event were due to both an overly zealous set of masks that mistook heavy smoke plumes for clouds and/or inland water, and also an aerosol model developed for generic global aerosol conditions. Using Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) Version 3 sky inversions of local AERONET stations, we created …
