The Current State Of Nursing Education In The Context Of Covid-19, Kaitlyn Kelly
The Current State Of Nursing Education In The Context Of Covid-19, Kaitlyn Kelly
Nursing Capstones
The field of nursing education has undergone massive changes in the context of COVID-19. Healthcare systems shifted to take care of an influx of patients, personal protective equipment shortages arose, and fear of transmission of the virus contributed to many nursing programs quickly transitioning to online instruction. These quick shifts leave many questions about the quality of education nursing students are currently experiencing. Although data may not yet be available to examine the effects of COVID-19 on nursing education, much can be learned by reviewing relevant literature published since the pandemic’s onset. This literature review describes changes to nursing education …

Study Title-Based Framing Effects On Reports Of Sexual Violence Factors In College Students, Raeann E. Anderson, Emily M. Carstens Namie, Paige K. Michael, Douglas L. Delahanty
Psychology Faculty Publications
Objective: There are many methodological issues in studying sexual violence, including potential framing effects. Framing effects refer to how researchers communicate the purpose of a study to participants, such as, how the study is advertised or explained. The aim of the current study was to investigate if framing effects were associated with differences in participants’ self-reported experiences of sexual violence and related correlates.
Methods: College students (N = 782) were recruited to participate in one of four identical studies that differed in the title: “Questionnaires about Alcohol,” “Questionnaires about Crime,” “Questionnaires about Health,” or “Questionnaires about Sexual Assault.” Participants chose …

Enhancing Diversity In Nursing Education, Ellen Steidl
Enhancing Diversity In Nursing Education, Ellen Steidl

Diversity in the nursing workforce lags behind the demographic of the national population; therefore, diversity of the student population must be enhanced in nursing education. While racial minority groups account for 40% and men account for 50% of the total population, only 20% of racial minority groups and 9% of men are represented in nursing. The Transcultural Nursing Theory serves as the theoretical framework for this study. A thorough review of the literature was conducted and analyzed. Several barriers to achieving diversity in nursing education exist including issues with recruitment and retention of diverse populations. Strategies for effective implementation techniques …

The Critical Shortage Of Nurse Educators: Implications For The Nursing Workforce, Catherine Lassila
The Critical Shortage Of Nurse Educators: Implications For The Nursing Workforce, Catherine Lassila
Nursing Capstones
The profession of nursing depends upon the work of dedicated, caring, and skilled nursing educators. Not only do they prepare those new to the profession at the prelicensure level, but also to train nurses continuing their education. Nursing education is itself facing severe shortages of educators, the impact of which directly affects the number of nurses that are in the workforce. Many accomplished nurse educators are retiring, while the education institutions simultaneously struggle to attract and retain new educators to the field. To combat this, educational institutions must address the reasons behind high attrition rates of new teachers and other …
Utilization Of Simulated Experiences To Replace In-Person Experiences For Bachelor Of Science Nursing Students, Margaret Loehrke
Utilization Of Simulated Experiences To Replace In-Person Experiences For Bachelor Of Science Nursing Students, Margaret Loehrke
Nursing Capstones
The demand for nurses is growing throughout the United States, increasing the burden on nursing institutions to accept more students into their programs. Yet, schools are having difficulty keeping up with the need. Institutions have been replacing traditional, in-person clinical experiences with simulated clinical experiences. Although state boards of nursing allow for the utilization of clinical simulation hours, there is no consensus regarding the amount or percentage of hours that schools can replace or the types of experiences that lead to the best student outcomes. This paper thoroughly examines the contemporary literature to determine if simulated clinical education meets student …

Childhood Obesity: Adding Metformin To Lifestyle Modification For Weight Reduction, Kelli Noelle Strege
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
One of the most challenging health conditions primary care providers face is combating the ever-rising incidence of obesity, especially among children. The objective of this literature review is to determine the effects of metformin implemented in addition to lifestyle modification for the treatment of childhood obesity. Efficacy, to include change in weight, BMI, insulin resistance, and overall safety of metformin was studied. The online databases searched in this review were PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and CINAHL. Literature chosen for review included randomized control trials, meta-analysis, and systematic reviews published between 2015 and 2020. Much of the studied research indicates positive …

Outpatient Physical Therapy Management Of A Chronic Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury: A Case Report, Erin Bussman
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Background and Purpose. An incomplete cervical spinal cord injury is a lesion to the Cl-C7 area of spinal cord that does not result in a complete disconnection of the spinal cord and brain. Around 18,000 individuals are affected by a spinal cord injury in the United States each year, typically due to traumatic injury such as a motor vehicle accident, falls or violence. Each case presentation can be different with their impairments and functional limitations. Physical Therapists are vital in the examination and evaluation process to determine the severity of impairments secondary to the injury and the overall effects …

Background and Purpose: This case study will address the use of fascial counterstrain, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), and range of motion (ROM) to rehabilitate an arthroscopic anterior Bankart labrum repair in a pediatric patient. Bankart labral tears are defined as an anteroinferior tear of the labrum, frequently caused by multiple anterior shoulder dislocations. Fascial counterstrain can be used in post-surgical patients to reduce swelling, decrease healing time, and reduce pain. PNF and ROM allow the patient to return to a functional lifestyle and are included in most protocols provided by the surgeon. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate …

Background. Acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP) is the most prevalent variation of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. It is a neurological disorder in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system resulting in demyelination and subsequent ineffective nerve transmission. Currently there is a lack of evidence supporting the most effective early physical therapy treatment interventions.
Purpose. The purpose of this case study is to present the early physical therapy intervention provided in the acute care setting for a patient with AIDP.
Description. This case study describes a five-day inpatient physical therapy management of a 37-year-old male who was diagnosed …
