The Relationship Between Top Management Tenure And Middle Managers' Job-Related Stress And Job Satisfaction, Joyce M. Richard
The Relationship Between Top Management Tenure And Middle Managers' Job-Related Stress And Job Satisfaction, Joyce M. Richard
Theses and Dissertations
Change and adaptation are consistent and major characteristics in most of the activities of modern society. The nursing profession is not exempt from constantly changing theories, practices, and environment. Recent literature suggests a great interest in turnover, stress, and job satisfaction of staff nurses. However, few published studies pertain to top management turnover as it relates to middle managers. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between top management tenure and middle managers' job-related stress and job satisfaction.
The perceptions of job-related stress and job satisfaction of sixty middle managers in six Midwest Veterans Administration Medical Centers …

The hospitals and states chosen represent the geographical region known as the Upper Northwest of the United States.
The variables that were investigated to determine levels of awareness were nurses' educational background, years of practice as a registered nurse, and the setting in which the nurses provide patient care. Data were collected through questionnaires that were sent …
Lysosomal Enzymes In Undifferentiated And Differentiated Hl-60 Cells, Julie J. Ackerman
Lysosomal Enzymes In Undifferentiated And Differentiated Hl-60 Cells, Julie J. Ackerman
Theses and Dissertations
The human promyelocytic leukemia cell line HL-60 has been studied extensively since the time of it's discovery and has been proven to be a valuable tool for the study of the differentiation process. The capacity of the HL-60 cell line to differentiate to macrophage-like cells, which may be immunologically competent, has proven to be invaluable in the study of these cells as a model for macrophage function. A number of hydrolytic enzymes are characteristically found in macrophages. In an effort to further characterize diferentiated HL-60 cells as macrophages, the location and concentration of a number of these enzymes was determined. …

A Study Of The Effects Of Polyethylene Glycol On Interactions Between Glycolytic Enzymes And F-Actin, And Among Glycolytic Enzymes, Julie L. Walsh
Theses and Dissertations
Many studies of the protein interactions that compose the microtrabecular lattice have been done in dilute solutions. However, solutions containing inert polymers such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) more effectively mimic the crowded interior of the cell. Therefore, the interactions of D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate ketolisomerase (TPI, EC 5.3.1.1), D-phosphoglycerate 2,3-phosphomutase (PGM, EC 5.4.2.1), ATP:3-phospho-D-glycerate 1-phosphotransferase (PGK, EC 2.7.2.3), 2-phospho-D-glycerate hydro-lyase (enolase, EC 4.2.1.11), D-fructose-1,6-bisphosphate D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate lyase (aldolase, 4.1.2.13), D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate:NAD$\sp{+}$ oxidoreductase (GAPDH, EC 5.3.1.1), D-glucose-6-phosphate ketol-isomerase (GPI, EC 5.3.1.9), (S)-lactate:NAD+ oxidoreductase (LDH, EC 1.1.1.27), and ATP:Pyruvate O$\sp2$-phosphotransferase (PK, EC 2.7.1.40) with each other, with ATP:D-fructose-6-phosphate 1-phosphotransferase (PFK, EC 2.7.1.11) and with F-actin have been …

A History Of School Reorganization In Sargent Country Since 1947, Larry E. Skroch
Theses and Dissertations
Sargent County's school district reorganization story began in 1947. In that year North Dakota's first comprehensive school district law was passed. Sargent County had twenty-nine school districts but needed a larger tax base to improve the quality of education. By November 1947, a County Reorganization Committee was formed and its actions became front-page news. School reorganization ignited great excitement throughout the county, and public interest ran high in 1948 because people worried about losing their schools and about possible tax increases. As people took sides, some friend ships were broken; town residents became united in the defense of their school, …

Wallace Stevens And The Dao, Jianer Lin
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation studies Wallace Stevens' poetry from the perspective of Daoism (Taoism). It consists of eight chapters. After brief surveys of Stevens' own references to and contact with China in Chapter 1 and of the critical history of this subject in Chapter 2 and a brief introduction of Daoism in Chapter 3, the dissertation concentrates on the discussion of Stevens' poetry in terms of Daoism in the remaining five chapters. Cost Control And Pricing Methods For The Small Business, Mikel S. Brantley
Theses and Dissertations
An important part of the American dream is the ability to start and own a business. Hundreds of thousands of new firms are started each year. Small business is the heart of the American economic system and essential to its overall well-being. The failure rate of small businesses, however, is a major concern to businessmen and government at all levels. It causes economic losses to both individuals and taxpayers through increased business loan rates and the costs of bankruptcy filings. A lack of management education is often cited as a direct cause for business failures. Chief among management problems is …

Patco Strike: A New Beginning For Labor Relations, Michael H. Grine
Theses and Dissertations
While the actual events of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) strike against the federal government have faded into history, the results of the strike will live forever in the new management/labor relationship that exists, not only in the federal government, but all levels of government and civilian enterprise. The results of the disastrous failure of the strike destroyed thousands of careers and left all levels of organized labor to foresee their now limited options available for negotiations with management.
This independent study will attempt to inform the reader of the causes of the PATCO disaster and the miscalculations …
