Relationships Across Training Programs, Professional Titles, And Perceptions Of Therapy Performance, Debra E. Anderson Bach
Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to examine the perceptions of students training to be counselors, clinical psychologists, and social workers, regarding the professional titles of counseling psychologist, psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, and social worker. A videotaped counseling session of a therapist and a client, a client description, and a therapist description served as the stimuli. The professional title of the therapist varied in the therapist description and served as the independent variable. One hundred three subjects were grouped according to their training program and then randomly assigned to one of the four treatment groups differentiated by the professional titles of counseling psychologist, …

Why Small Businesses Fail, William W. Schlepuetz
Why Small Businesses Fail, William W. Schlepuetz
Theses and Dissertations
Small businesses fail at an alarmingly high rate. The seriousness of this is underscored by the impact of small business on the economy. Small business accounts for 45% of the U. s. gross national product and employs nearly 60% of the work force.
External factors such as the environment are responsible for some failures. Internal causes of failure parallel all functional areas of the business: however, approximately 90 percent of all small business failures are related to management incompetence or inexperience.
Two major failings of the incompetent or inexperienced manager are the lack of a business plan and poor managerial …

A Remote Sensing Technique For Assessing Plant Species Diversity, Robin Odom Rapai
Theses and Dissertations
Earth science has developed over many centuries as a dynamic and ever evolving research field. In the last decade, earth scientists have postulated many thought provoking theories, tools, models and techniques critical to ecological problems and plant species preservation. The primary objective of this study was to test whether there is a relationship between variations in 35mm color aerial photographs' pixel brightness and total numbers of plant species in selected prairie preserves In northwest Minnesota, a region dominated by typical tallgrass prairie and bordering the prairie-forest ecotone. Seventeen prairie preserves lie on the Minnesota side of the Red River of …
The Frequency Of Occurrence Of Phonemes In The Speech Of Aphasics, Rita M. Vis
The Frequency Of Occurrence Of Phonemes In The Speech Of Aphasics, Rita M. Vis
Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to investigate the phoneme selection patterns in the spontaneous speech of Broca's and Wernicke's aphasics. The frequency distributions of phonemes for the aphasic subjects was compared to the normal distribution curve of English consonantal phonemes. Differences in the frequency of occurrence of phonemes subsequent to neurological impairment may be linked to the nature of the impairment. In addition, this study described and compared the occurrence of phonological processes in the single word responses of the subject groups. The frequency of phonemes and the occurrence of phonological processes were then analyzed jointly for possible trends.

Race Of The Century : Guy Vs. Young, 1974 North Dakota U.S. Senate Election, Allan C. Young
Theses and Dissertations
As the 1972-1974 election cycle began, Republican incumbent Milton Young, who had served in the U.S. Senate for twenty-seven years, decided to run for another term with realistic confidence in his ability to repeat prior election victories. His initial optimism began to erode as national Republican leaders questioned his ability to defeat his apparent opponent, former North Dakota Governor William L. Guy. Results of public opinion surveys added credibility to the perception of Young's weakness. Guy saw an opportunity to achieve his long-held goal of becoming a U.S. Senator and cautiously laid the groundwork for his campaign. As the two …

Changing Accessibility For Tourism In The Aurland Municipality Of Norway, Kari Brekke
Changing Accessibility For Tourism In The Aurland Municipality Of Norway, Kari Brekke
Theses and Dissertations
Because of changes in accessibility, the Aurland Municipality in Western Norway may be subjected to increased tourism. In 1991, an all-season highway will open between Oslo and Bergen, which will pass directly through the Aurland Municipality. The shift in importance from mostly seasonal rail/fjord traffic to an all-season automobile traffic has the potential for accelerating tourism pressures in this highly scenic area. The purpose of this study was to address possible problems and prospects of changing accessibility for tourism in the Aurland Municipality.
In order to examine tourism in the Aurland Municipality, a number of methods were used. Fieldwork was …
Adolescent Norms For The Eating Disorder Inventory As Related To Personal Variables In Female Adolescents At One Private Urban, One Rural, And One Semi-Rural High School, Betty J. Larson
Theses and Dissertations
The societal preference for a slender body image has caused an increasing number of adolescents to diet or use unusual methods of weight control. Some adolescents progress along the continuum of restrained eating toward the development of pathological eating disorders. In order to identify risk factors in the development of eating disorders, eating attitudes and behaviors of 454 normal adolescents were studied by using the Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI) and a personal background questionnaire. The higher the subscale scores on the EDI the more similar the individual's perceptions to those of victims with a pathological eating disorder.
With the exception …

The Position Of The Stockholder In Corporate Bankruptcy, Daniel S. Yinger
The Position Of The Stockholder In Corporate Bankruptcy, Daniel S. Yinger
Theses and Dissertations
The fate of a stockholder's investment in declining corporation depends on what the company does before and during bankruptcy. It is certainly possible that the firm may end up being liquidated with the stockholder loosing everything. On the other hand, the company can be bought by another firm, merge with a more successful entity, or even successfully reorganize alone to become a highly profitable firm. Just which of these events will come to pas~ is not always certain. It depends on the legal environment the company is faced with before and after the bankruptcy decision is made. In addition, market …

Synthesis Of Modified Nucleosides And Nucleotides., Eric James Linnell
Theses and Dissertations
In Project 1 as part of an overall effort to synthesize modified nucleosides via organotransition metal chemistry, the nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions between alkyl- and aryl-Grignard reagents and 6-chloropurine were investigated. A series of 6-substituted purine nucleosides have been made which may exhibit a considerable range of biological activity.Project 2 concerned the synthesis of nucleotide-insertanes as probes for transport; Part A specifically was related to macrocyclic ethers. Crown ethers were designed which, in addition to their intrinsic structural interest, were anticipated to be useful as synthetic intermediates, and as carriers for the transport of nucleotides through cell membranes. It was sought …
