Hillslope Degradation: Coarse Sands May Move Faster But Fines Dominate Flux, Robert Chance
Hillslope Degradation: Coarse Sands May Move Faster But Fines Dominate Flux, Robert Chance
Theses and Dissertations
Hillslopes are one of the most pervasive landforms on Earth yet the details of the processes that drive their evolution are not completely understood. Excluding boulders, the majority of mass and volume in soil-mantled hillslopes is composed of sand-sized and finer grains. Understanding the transport rates and governing transport mechanisms of these grains is therefore key to advancing our knowledge of hillslope evolution. This research investigates sand-sized sediment transport through field experiments at 20 sites tracking surface sediment motion and 11 sites measuring depth-dependent transport. These empirical results are compared against outputs from a novel grain-based hillslope diffusion simulation (GBHDS), which …

Examining Tele-Mental Health Utilization In North American Indigenous Communities, Elleh A. Driscoll
Theses and Dissertations
Tele-mental health delivery reported by clinicians in Indigenous communities before, during, and after the pandemic has largely remained unexplored across psychology literature. Tele-mental health (TMH) is the utilization of technology tools to communicate and treat clients (Riding-Malon, 2014). TMH (i.e. mental health services accessed via zoom, telephone, etc.) is associated in recent research with effective rates for mental health care treatment comparable to in-person rates for both immediate and long-term outcomes (McCord, 2020; Lin, 2021). The current study examined self-reported mental health clinicians (n=104) serving North American Indigenous clients on a variety of TMH factors during and after the COVID-19 …
Protective Factors For Suicidal Ideation In Transgender Adults Living In Rural Communities, Genel Gronkowski
Protective Factors For Suicidal Ideation In Transgender Adults Living In Rural Communities, Genel Gronkowski
Theses and Dissertations
Transgender adults living in rural communities within the USA may be at an increased risk for suicidal ideation compared to their cisgender peers. Meyer’s Minority Stress Model postulates that this may be due to unique stressors that result from a minoritized identity that may lead to poor mental health outcomes, such as suicidal ideation; individual and community level protective factors may buffer or protect from poor health outcomes. The purpose of this study is to identify protective factors that may be unique to transgender adults experiencing suicidal ideation in rural communities. Utilizing a grounded theory approach, a homogenous group of …

Israel, Palestine, And The Trolley Problem: On The Futility Of The Search For The Moral High Ground, Jack Russell Weinstein
Israel, Palestine, And The Trolley Problem: On The Futility Of The Search For The Moral High Ground, Jack Russell Weinstein
Digital Press Books
Arguments about Israel and Palestine are almost always accusatory and polemical. Rather than learning from one another, opponents jockey for the moral high ground trying to find that one attack they believe proves their side to be completely on the right, without compromise. This means Israel’s advocates dismiss Palestinian land claims without due consideration and Pro-Palestinian voices falsely accuse Israel of the most heinous modern crimes: colonialism, genocide, and apartheid. None of this is productive or healthy.
In Israel, Palestine, and the Trolley Problem: On the Futility of the Search for the Moral High Ground, philosopher Jack Russell Weinstein interweaves …

Waterbody Size Influences Chemical And Community Characteristics Of North Dakota Prairie Wetlands And Lakes, Julia Renee Hampton
Theses and Dissertations
The Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) of North America is home to dynamic glacier-formed lakes and wetlands that range in size from small intermittent wetlands to large permanently filled basins. Predicting water-related shifts in environmental conditions and biological community responses within these systems has been challenging due to non-linear, scale-specific changes. Furthermore, landscape-level changes in the quantity and distribution of surface water are becoming more frequent. This thesis contributes to our understanding of how waterbody size, and potential size fluctuations, influence chemical and community dynamics of complex PPR glacial lakes and wetlands. We paired remote sensing and discontinuity methods with US …
