Living And Recent Dead Milluscan Assemblages Upper Lasalle Lake, Minnesota, Kenneth W. Wangerud
Living And Recent Dead Milluscan Assemblages Upper Lasalle Lake, Minnesota, Kenneth W. Wangerud
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
Living and recent dead mollusks were sampled by SCUBA in Upper LaSalle Lake, northwestern Minnesota, in 1972 along belt transects paralleling the depth contours and normal to the shoreline. Three aquatic plant associations were found in the lake – dense, finely-branching forms in shallow water; less dense and a greater percentage of broad-leaved plants in intermediate depths; and a sparse density of a finely-branching forms in deep water. Two live species of mussels (in order of decreasing abundance) – Lampsilis radiata luteola (Lamarck, 1819), and Anodonta grandis Say, 1829 – were found at maximum depths of 5 and 6 m, …
Symbolic Civic Awareness: A Study Of Political Socialization In The City Of Grand Forks, Richard J. Hardy
Symbolic Civic Awareness: A Study Of Political Socialization In The City Of Grand Forks, Richard J. Hardy
Theses and Dissertations
Numerous studies in political socialization have suggested that the child's political world begins about the age of three and is basically- completed by age thirteen. Using this finding as a guideline, the author proposed in this study to determine at what age elementary school children develop a symbolic awareness of their government.
Based on a format similar to that used by Greenstein, Hess, and Easton, a study was made in the City of Grand Forks involving 951 children in grades one through six. To achieve representativeness and control, six elementary schools were selected based on socio-economic, philosophic, and religious variable. …

A Study Of The Future Roles Of The Four North Dakota State Colleges, Merton W. Andresen
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine the problem of the future roles of the four state colleges in North Dakota. Attention was focused upon the historical antecedents which were germane to changing roles in * the four state colleges in North Dakota. In addition, an overview of imperatives in planning for change reflected the national imperatives for change which are relevant for North Dakota.
The study included an analysis of legislative attitudes toward the . future roles of the four state colleges. These attitudes were delineated by use of a questionnaire. A chi square statistical analysis was applied …
Nest Morphogenesis And Population Ecology Of Two Species Of Formica, Donald A. Sather
Nest Morphogenesis And Population Ecology Of Two Species Of Formica, Donald A. Sather
Theses and Dissertations
Two species of thatching ants (Formica obscuripes and F. oreas comptula) are common to the ecotone and woodland habitats of the Forest River Biology Station near Inkster, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. The general ecology for each species was determined with emphasis on mound morphogenesis, colony-founding and population characteristics. For each species the following samples and data were collected: random samples of each population, thatch sample, external and internal mound measurements, and field maps of distribution patterns.
The morphogenesis of F. obscurlpes mounds was found to follow a predictable pattern with three well defined but transitional nest forms: (1) Stage …
Self-Concept Change: The Effects Of A Self-Concept Enchancement Program On Preschool Children, E. Michelle Pardew
Self-Concept Change: The Effects Of A Self-Concept Enchancement Program On Preschool Children, E. Michelle Pardew
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a self-concept enhancement program on the self-concepts of four-year-old children, and to discover significant aspects of their environment which are related to their self-concepts.
The population sample consisted of all four-year-olds (pretest=57» posttest*.52) attending Kiddie Kampus Preschool, Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota. Both the experimental group (N=3^) receiving the self-concept enhancement program, and the control group (N=l8) not receiving the treatment program, were assessed during the pretesting and posttesting periods. The twenty-five variables assessed by The Thomas. Self-Concept Values Test (19 scales) and the Developmental Profile (6 …
A Taxonomic And Distributional Study Of The Aquatic Vascular Plants Of Northeastern North Dakota, Leighton Kaloupek
A Taxonomic And Distributional Study Of The Aquatic Vascular Plants Of Northeastern North Dakota, Leighton Kaloupek
Theses and Dissertations
Aquatic vascular plants were collected in Walsh, Grand Forks, and Traill Counties, North Dakota, a tier of counties that lie in two physiographic areas; the Red River Valley and Drift Prairie. Collection sites were selected on a geographical basis to include all types of aquatic habitats. A total of 470 collections encompassing 141 species was made during one field season. A sum of 204 species was recorded by the inclusion of records from North Dakota and Minnesota herbaria. Analyses of the 470 collections revealed two species not previously recorded for North Dakota: Carex lenticularis and Ranunculus longirostris. and an extension …

Trend-Surface Analysis Of The Trunk Lake Granitic Pluton, Maine, Bruce Ramsey
Trend-Surface Analysis Of The Trunk Lake Granitic Pluton, Maine, Bruce Ramsey
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
A trend-surface modal analysis of the Tunk Lake granitic pluton was performed using a program for the IBM 30/40 computer (Appendix 1) by Heiner and Geller (MIRL Report No. 9) and data from Karner (1968). The quartz, total mafics, oligoclase, perthite, and albite in perthite percentages were analyzed.
All the trends show a southwest-northeast alignment, with the perthite, albite-in-perthite, and total mafic values increasing towards the margin of the pluton and quartz and oligoclase values decreasing outward to the margin. There is an area in the northwest part of the pluton which is an area of high values for total …

Quantitative Geomorphology And Hydrology Of The Cass River Basin, New Zealand, Frank J. Schulte
Quantitative Geomorphology And Hydrology Of The Cass River Basin, New Zealand, Frank J. Schulte
Theses and Dissertations
The Cass River drainage basin is in the Southern Alps in the central part of the South Island of New Zealand. The Alps are composed of complexly folded greywacke which is still actively rising. The basin has been modified by several glacial advances during Pleistocene time.
The Cass basin has a temperate climate characterized by a steep precipitation gradient. Its vegetation includes plants of the forest grassland, shrubland, swamp, rock, and river-bed associations.
The Cass basin may be divided into four geomorphic areas: bedrock areas, high-angle fans, moderate-angle fans, and a low-angle fan. The bedrock areas consist of fractured greywacke; …
