Till Fabric, Robert E. Christensen
Till Fabric, Robert E. Christensen
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
Till fabric was noticed as early as 1859. Several geologists described it in the latter part of the nineteenth century. However, the concept of a fabric in till was not generally accepted until 1932 when Konrad Richter noted a preferred orientation of till particles in Northern Germany. He supported his findings with statistical data. Comprehensive studies were published by W. C. Krumbein and especially C. D. Holmes a few years later. Extensive work on the subject was conducted by several geologists in the 1950’s.
Till fabric is classified as macrofabric and microfabric. The latter is further classified as (1) microfoliation, …
Cross-Bedding, Robert T. Peterson
Cross-Bedding, Robert T. Peterson
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
Cross-bedding is formed in both terrestrial and marine environments. The littoral deltaic type is probably the most common. It also occurs in lake deltas, fluvial bars and channel fills, beaches, sand dunes, and as eolian deposits modifying any of the others. It ranges in size from microscopic to tens of yards thick. Ripple-marks are considered to be miniature dunes. The most important uses of cross-bedding are as a top and bottom indicator and as a current direction indicator. A genetic inference from the shape of any cross-bedded structure cannot be absolutely made.

Potassium-Argon Dating, Jerry E. Nestaval
Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects
The unstable radioactive isotope K40 decays to the stable radiogenic isotopes A40 and Ca40. The rate of decay is a constant ratio, called the branching ratio, and is used to determine the age of a mineral. Because potassium exists almost everywhere this gives us a valuable method for dating rocks. The developments, improvements, procedures, suitable minerals and accuracy of the K-A dating method, are analyzed in this paper.

Usher Burdick Papers
This letter dated October 23, 1957, from John W. Haw to Robert F. Massee, submits a copy of a statement by the Northern Pacific Railway Company to the North Dakota Reclamation Association, in favor of the Garrison Diversion project. Haw relates that representatives from the railroad will be unable to attend the hearing in Devils Lake concerning Garrison Diversion. Haw notes that A. J.
