This study was designed to improve understanding of the motion of air bubbles in water, in order to make possible more precise mass transfer calculations.
An accurate, low cost photographic technique was developed for studying the trajectory of air bubbles rising unrestrained in water.
The effect of several variables on velocity and direction of bubble movement was studied. These include: equivalent bubble radius; temperature; contamination; release pressure; vessel size, shape and construction material, and orientation and size of the capillary tube from which the bubbles were released.

Leonardite has been considered as a substitute for bentonite as an iron ore pellet binder since it would impart less undesirable impurities to the iron ore. In the case of leonardite, pellet binding strength is believed to be derived from the formation of leonardite- water gel systems. In this respect, the gels formed by addition of sodium hydroxide ("sodium gels") or sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide ("calcium gels") to leonardite-water slurries are of interest. The Effect Of The Difficulty Level Of The Cue Dimension In The Reversal And Nonreversal Shift Learning Of The Mentally Retarded, Allan D. Zimmerman

The purpose of tills study was to investigate the reversal and nonreversal shift learning of retardates as a function of mental age and the difficulty level of the cue dimension. Reversal shift learning is generally more rapid if the learner is capable of using a mediational approach to problem solving. Nonreversal shift learning occurs more readily if the learner employs a single-unit S-R approach to problem solving.
In the present study retarded subjects at three different ability levels learned a two-choice discrimination on the size dimension or the color dimension during original learning. The subjects were then randomly assigned to …

This study attempted to analyze and synthesize the opinions of a randomly selected sample of typewriting teachers pertaining to the development of composition skill at the typewriter, in first-year typewriting.
An opinionnaire was mailed to one hundred randomly selected secondary typewriting instructors and of the returns received, seventy- five were usable.
The findings of this study revealed the majority of teachers believed the following about composition at the typewriter:
1. A need exists for standards and guidelines in methodology and for a comprehensive booklet on developing composition skill.
2. A student's typewriting rate (speed and accuracy) affects the amount he …

The Mcphar Vertical And Horizontal Loop Electromagnetic (Vhem) Unit As A Tool In Geological Exploration, Pentti Lassila

The McPhar VHEM is an efficient and useful electromagnetic unit used in conjunction with geologic exploration to locate shallow-depth ground conductors which may contain ecomomic minerals.
It consists of two battery powered lightweight units, a transmitter and receiver, each with a set of two enclosed coils. It operates on an alternating current with two frequencies of 2400 cps and 600 cps.
Both vertical loop (VL) and horizontal loop (HL) procedures may be used with the same set of instruments.
With VL, two techniques, VL Broadside and VL Standard are used; VL Broadside for locating the anomaly, and VL Standard for …
