The Desirability Of Direct Costing For Internal And External Financial Reports, James H. Huesgen Apr 1973

The Desirability Of Direct Costing For Internal And External Financial Reports, James H. Huesgen

Theses and Dissertations

Appraisal of any costing method requires an understanding ol the various uses which are made of cost data and the relationships among these uses. Present day accounting is concerned with past, present, and future costs.

There are basically two concepts that are applied by manufacturing enterprises in accounting for these costs; the absorption costing concept and the direct costing concept. The difference between the two methods evolves around the fact that all manufacturing costs are charged to the products and there is no need to distinguish among them in costing products under the absorption theory; whereas, under the direct costing …

Categories Of Verbal Ideas And Case Relations, Bruce E. Hollenbach Jan 1973

Categories Of Verbal Ideas And Case Relations, Bruce E. Hollenbach

Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session

From the introduction, "Our belief that translation is possible, or, for that matter, that human beings can communicate at all, is based upon two presuppositions: 1) that human beings everywhere live in approximately the same world of experience, and 2) that all human beings have approximately the same mental and psychological apparatus.

But we must at the same time recognize that all human beings must abstract to a high degree from the complex environment around them which constantly bombards them with great amounts of sense stimuli. We are required to impose order on, or find order in (depending upon your …

A Communications Model Of Culture Contact, James A. Yost Jan 1973

A Communications Model Of Culture Contact, James A. Yost

Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session

From the introduction: "Most anthropologists currently involved in the study of culture contact recognize the importance of adequate communication for successful transmission of ideas or traits. Some, such as Niehoff, have made explicit the importance they feel it has: "Communication by the innovator is probably the single most important kind of action in which he will engage, since it is a prerequisite for everything else that follows. No ideas or techniques can be transferred from one person to another unless there are channels of communication established to transfer them, and these are the patterns of communication. If no adequate patterns …

Heavy Minerals Of Glacial Sediments In The Area Of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, Howard Hobbs Jan 1973

Heavy Minerals Of Glacial Sediments In The Area Of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, Howard Hobbs

Theses and Dissertations

Pleistocene lithostratigraphic units containing glacial sediments in the Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, area and adjacent areas were studied to determine their heavy-mineral assemolages. Seventy-two samples of fine sand were studied by optical grain-count methods and 77 samples of fine sand were studied by x-ray diffraction methods. Most formations contain a hornblende-garnet-pyroxene-epidote assemblage; the Gervais Formation contains a pyroxene-hornblende assemblage. The mean proportion of the constituent minerals is different in each formation; however, there is overlap in the ranges of heavy mineral proportions among the formations. The Red Lake Falls Formation can be subdivided on the basis of garnet abundance.
