Steam Drying Of Lignite, Sunil V. Sapatnekar Dec 1981

Steam Drying Of Lignite, Sunil V. Sapatnekar

Theses and Dissertations

North Dakota lignite, (,-lV x 1") in size and having 35 percent initial moisture content, was steam dried by the Fleissner process at elevated temperatures and pressures. The reduction in moisture content of lignite was investigated as a function of the residence time and the drying temperature. The residence time was varied from 10 to 30 minutes and the drying temperature from 220° to 270°C.

It was determined that decrease in moisture content was independent of drying times longer than 20 minutes and drying temperatures below 250°C. The reduction in moisture content increased at higher temperatures. It varied from 45 …

Hemisphericity And Flexibility In Problem Solving Strategies In Creative Test Performance, Mark D. Schuler Dec 1981

Hemisphericity And Flexibility In Problem Solving Strategies In Creative Test Performance, Mark D. Schuler

Theses and Dissertations

The present study was designed to provide further data regarding the contribution of hemisphericity to the creative process. A flexibility variable was suggested as another contributing factor in the creative process. A set of four questionnaires yielding seven scores reflecting behavioral, personal preference, and personality indices was used to assess hemisphericity. A concept formation task that would theoretically reflect analytic and holistic processing was developed to assess flexibility in problem solving strategies. The hemisphericity and flexibility measures, along with the creativity measure, were administered to 37 females and 13 males. All subjects were right handed with no familial sinistrality.

The Father Role: Development Of An Attitude Assessment Instrument, Robert Daniel Olson

Theses and Dissertations

This study attempted to create a psychometrically sound assessment instrument to measure fathers' attitudes toward their role as a father. Social learning theory and sex-role theory provided a conceptual framework for viewing the father role. Four aspects of fathering were discerned from the literature: Cl) relationship of fatherhood to child rearing; C2) relationship of fatherhood to the marital dyad and the family as a whole; C3) relationship of fatherhood to the man's self- identity; and (4) relationship of fatherhood to wider societal, cultural and familial influences. Introducing North Dakota Writers To North Dakota Readers, Kathie Anderson May 1981

Introducing North Dakota Writers To North Dakota Readers, Kathie Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

My study of the literature of North Dakota began ten years ago, when the topic for the annual writers conference at the University of North Dakota was the literature of the Northern Plains. At that conference I listened to Lois Phillips Hudson, Thomas McGrath, Richard Lyons, and other regional writers. Since that conference, I have been reading the literature of North Dakota and learning about the writers, and I have introduced the literature of North Dakota to my students in Grand Forks and Bismarck. My students, like the rest of us, have had the initial reaction, "Literature--Here?"

This study consists …
