An Analysis Of The Dimensions Of Congressional Voting: The Case For Foreign Aid, Donald R. Morrison
An Analysis Of The Dimensions Of Congressional Voting: The Case For Foreign Aid, Donald R. Morrison
Theses and Dissertations
The major focus of this paper concerns defining congressional issue dimensions towards the American foreign assistance programs of 1979 to 1982. The resulting dimensions serve as a foundation to identify coalitions of congressmen who support or oppose different aspects of foreign aid policies. Previous foreign aid vote studies have usually divided congressmen into pro and con camps or placed them along activist-restrained continuums. This study, however, is based on the assumption that foreign aid policy has become too complex for such divisions and that its dimensions center more around the types of aid, the purposes of aid, and the ideological …

A Comparison Of Perceptions Of Selected Germanic Executives To Determine If Case-Study Analysis Education Affects Their Decision-Making Process, Richard L. Painchaud

The Role Of Symbolic Form In The Bedtime Nature Stories Of Thornton W. Burgess, Ronald A. Royer
The Role Of Symbolic Form In The Bedtime Nature Stories Of Thornton W. Burgess, Ronald A. Royer
Theses and Dissertations
The task of this research is to examine the epistemological premises inherent in Thornton W. Burgess' nature stories for children as defined by Ernst Cassirer's philosophy of symbolic forms. Its purpose is to identify these premises, examine them in light of Cassirer's philosophy, and explore their relevance to education theory.
Burgess holds that children are characterized by their potentiality, that their interest in animals is inherent, that they instinctively sense themselves superior to animals, and that for these reasons it is possible to convey any lesson to the child through the medium of a fact-based animal story.
During the course …

A Character Study Of Two Trouser Roles For Mezzo-Soprano In Opera: "Cherubino" From W. A. Mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro And "Octavian" From R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, Tammy Jo Hensrud-Kerian
Theses and Dissertations
Trouser roles are roles in opera in which women portray young men. These roles present a special problem for the singer-actor - the problem of performing a character through transvestism.
This thesis is a study of two popular trouser roles for mezzo-soprano. It addresses the general history of trouser roles and the specific characters of "Cherubino" from W. A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and "Octavian" from R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier. The study analysis of these two roles incorporates the history of the characters as reflected through the development of librettos in which they appear, a character study focusing on …

A Study Of Job Satisfaction Of Small Market Radio Station Managers, Lawrence William Etling
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis studied job satisfaction of small market radio station managers in North Dakota, Northwestern Minnesota, and Eastern Montana. Thirty-three managers were surveyed by mail questionnaires, telephone interviews, and personal interviews.
The data were used to answer twelve questions regarding factors relating to managerial job satisfaction. From those questions asked, the most significant conclusions drawn were: 1. Factors which probably relate to managerial job satisfaction in small radio stations are: making full use of one’s managerial abilities; exercise of authority; dealing with a variety of job challenges; salary; and using one’s own judgment. 2. Factors which probably do not relate …

New Approaches To Coping With Stress: A Case Study In Conchucos Quechua, Anne M. Stewart
Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session
From the introduction: "The primary purpose of this present study is [...] not to argue for the superior effectiveness of the metrical approach by comparing it with another approach, but to demonstrate its effectiveness by applying it to the description of a stress system which has not been previously studied, that of the Quechua of Conchucos. [...] The analytical framework is as outlined in the first three chapters of Hayes (1980)."

Evidence For A Yaguan-Zaparoan Connection, Doris L. Payne
Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session
From the introduction: "This paper examines preliminary evidence regarding the type of the relationship obtaining between Peba-Yaguan and Zaparoan languages. My tentative conclusions are that certain features shared by the Peba-Yaguan and Zaparoan families may be due to a genetic connection, though independent origin cannot be ruled completely out. These features include phonological phenomena, certain transitivity-related verbal suffixes, and postpositional counterparts of some such suffixes."
