The Lagrange Logistics Method, Jeffrey Rogers
The Lagrange Logistics Method, Jeffrey Rogers
Space Studies Student Publications
Human development into different environments has always required logistics support to sustain life, focusing this research on one method in supporting interplanetary missions beyond Earth. It explores utilizing stations in Lagrange orbital points within the solar system, analogous to transcontinental hubs for logistics operations in an emerging domain. The evaluation considers available Lagrange points, environmental considerations including available resources, flight distances and time in comparison to current interplanetary flight, potential risks, and possibilities beyond the immediate future to determine the practicability of this method. To determine this, a qualitative descriptive analysis method is employed. Data was collected through historical accounts, …

Home-Based Cardiac Rehab Vs. Center-Based Cardiac Rehab In Rural Areas, Timothy Fresonke
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
Cardiac rehabilitation in rural areas can present unique challenges. The main challenge is the locations patients must travel to receive such care. Some patients are expected to travel more then an hour away, on multiple occasions during the week, to undergo their therapy. A literature review was done to see if there was a safe and effective alternative to the traditional center-based cardiac rehabilitation. The electronic search databases PubMed, Embase and CINAHL Complete were utilized to search for articles that addressed the four main topics of the paper. Dalal et al. (2019) found that home-based cardiac rehabilitation was as safe …

Cognitive Behavior Therapy Versus Internet Cognitive Behavior Therapy In Adults With Anxiety Or Depression, Heather Greenwood
Cognitive Behavior Therapy Versus Internet Cognitive Behavior Therapy In Adults With Anxiety Or Depression, Heather Greenwood
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
According to the American Psychiatric Association, the prevalence of anxiety and depression in adults in their lifetime are nearly 30% and 16.6% respectively. The combination of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy interventions (including talk therapy or cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)) are considered best practice, but in recent years there has been an increase in the popularity of applications and web-based services categorized as “internet cognitive behavior therapy”, or ICBT. The question proposed is, are these services as good for patient outcomes as traditional in-person CBT? A literature review was performed using electronic medical database PubMed with key word searches for cognitive behavior …

Is Natural Family Planning An Effective Alternative To Hormonal Contraception, Melanie Loehrer
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
Natural family planning methods provide women with an opportunity to use natural methods to plan pregnancy. This is done through daily monitoring of symptoms and biomarker fluctuation in accordance with hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle to identify the fertile window. Through the identification of the fertile window and ovulation, one can determine appropriate days for sexual intercourse. This format allows participants to develop a greater understanding and in-depth knowledge of reproductive health to avoid or achieve pregnancy. The use of natural family planning has greatly increased over the last two decades, growing the demand for clinical practice in applicability …

Blood-Based Versus Stool-Based Biomarker Accuracy In Detection Of Colorectal Cancer And Impact Of Non-Invasive Tests On Patient Participation, Allison Obritsch
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
Colorectal cancer is a very treatable cancer when detected early, therefore patient adherence and colorectal cancer screening is key to decrease mortality. The purpose of this research and systematic literature review was to determine how the accuracy of blood-based and stool-based biomarkers compared in the detection of colorectal cancer and how noninvasive testing modalities influence patient participation in colorectal cancer screening. PubMed and Clinical Key were used as search engines. In terms of patient compliance and adherence, the studies comprehensively agree that non-invasive testing modality availability can increase patient participation in screening for colorectal cancer. While there was not significant …

Long-Term Control Of Type Ii Diabetes Mellitus And Weight Through Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery Versus Weight Loss Medication, Alexandra Laber
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) affects hundreds of millions of individuals in the United States and is only becoming more common. The disease can damage organs all throughout the body and even lead to death. The goal of treatment is to lower blood glucose, but since T2DM tends to be associated with obesity, another common goal in treatment is weight loss. However, this is difficult for many people to achieve, and intense medical treatment is sometimes needed. Since T2DM is a lifelong disease, interventions must be considered in the long term. The purpose of this project is to compare long-term …

Impact Of Circadian Rhythm On Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Tyson Williams
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
The purpose of this research and systematic literature review is to determine if altering the circadian rhythm in people with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) improves their symptoms. Up to 75% of people with childhood-onset ADHD exhibit a delayed circadian rhythm phase. This can cause difficulty in initiating and maintaining sleep, which in turn can cause excessive daytime sleepiness and further exacerbate ADHD symptoms, especially hyperactivity. Journal articles were searched in the databases of PubMed that concerned treatment aspects that would affect circadian rhythm and ADHD. Topics were further divided into themes that included melatonin, light therapy (LT), sleep hygiene intervention, …

Understanding Student Experiences Of Renewable And Traditional Assignments, Virginia Clinton-Lisell, Lindsey Gwozdz
Education, Health & Behavior Studies Faculty Publications
Renewable assignments are student created artifacts that have value outside of courses. However, more empirical inquiry in renewable assignments grounded in theoretical frameworks is necessary. In this study, students (N = 69) engaged in renewable assignments and were asked to report on their perceptions based on the self-determination theory of motivation and social justice principles. Overall, students reported higher levels of motivation as well as more opportunity to represent their identities for renewable assignments than traditional assignments. Students who opted to publicly share reported higher levels of competence and relatedness than did students who did not opt to publicly share.
